Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

1Sam.3.7

(This all happened before Samuel knew GOD for himself. It was before the revelation of GOD had been given to him personally.)

1Sam.3.7

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.

1Sam.3.7

(Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor was the word of the LORD yet revealed to him.)

1Sam.3.7

Samuel did not yet know the LORD because he had never had a message from the LORD before.

Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

1Sam.3.9

So Eli directed Samuel, "Go back and lie down. If the voice calls again, say, "Speak, GOD. I'm your servant, ready to listen.'" Samuel returned to his bed.

1Sam.3.9

So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, 'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

1Sam.3.9

Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, "Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears."' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

1Sam.3.9

So he said to Samuel, "Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, `Yes, LORD, your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went back to bed.

1Sam.3.10

And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

1Sam.3.11

And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

1Sam.3.11

1Sam.3.11

Then the LORD said to Samuel, "I am about to do a shocking thing in Israel.

1Sam.3.12

In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

1Sam.3.12

The time has come for me to bring down on Eli's family everything I warned him of, every last word of it.

1Sam.3.12

At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family-from beginning to end.

1Sam.3.12

In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.

1Sam.3.12

I am going to carry out all my threats against Eli and his family.

1Sam.3.13

For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

1Sam.3.13

I'm letting him know that the time's up. I'm bringing judgment on his family for good. He knew what was going on, that his sons were desecrating God's name and God's place, and he did nothing to stop them.

1Sam.3.13

For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons made themselves contemptible, and he failed to restrain them.

1Sam.3.13

For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.

1Sam.3.13

I have warned him continually that judgment is coming for his family, because his sons are blaspheming God and he hasn't disciplined them.

1Sam.3.14

And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

1Sam.3.14

This is my sentence on the family of Eli: The evil of Eli's family can never be wiped out by sacrifice or offering."

1Sam.3.14

Therefore, I swore to the house of Eli, 'The guilt of Eli's house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.'"

1Sam.3.14

And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever."

1Sam.3.14

So I have vowed that the sins of Eli and his sons will never be forgiven by sacrifices or offerings."

1Sam.3.15

And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

1Sam.3.15

Samuel stayed in bed until morning, then rose early and went about his duties, opening the doors of the sanctuary, but he dreaded having to tell the vision to Eli.

1Sam.3.15

Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision,

1Sam.3.16

Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

1Sam.3.16

But then Eli summoned Samuel: "Samuel, my son!" Samuel came running: "Yes? What can I do for you?"

1Sam.3.16

but Eli called him and said, "Samuel, my son." Samuel answered, "Here I am."

1Sam.3.16

Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son!" He answered, "Here I am."

1Sam.3.16

But Eli called out to him, "Samuel, my son. Here I am," Samuel replied.

1Sam.3.17

And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

1Sam.3.17

"What did he say? Tell it to me, all of it. Don't suppress or soften one word, as God is your judge! I want it all, word for word as he said it to you."

1Sam.3.17

"What was it he said to you?" Eli asked. "Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely, if you hide from me anything he told you."

1Sam.3.17

And he said, "What is the word that the LORD spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that He said to you."

1Sam.3.17

"What did the LORD say to you? Tell me everything. And may God punish you if you hide anything from me!"

1Sam.3.18

And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

1Sam.3.18

So Samuel told him, word for word. He held back nothing. Eli said, "He is GOD. Let him do whatever he thinks best."

1Sam.3.18

So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said, "He is the LORD; let him do what is good in his eyes."

1Sam.3.18

Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD. Let Him do what seems good to Him."

1Sam.3.18

So Samuel told Eli everything; he didn't hold anything back. "It is the LORD's will," Eli replied. "Let him do what he thinks best."

1Sam.3.19

And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

1Sam.3.19

Samuel grew up. GOD was with him, and Samuel's prophetic record was flawless.

1Sam.3.19

The LORD was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of his words fall to the ground.

1Sam.3.19

So Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.

1Sam.3.19

As Samuel grew up, the LORD was with him, and everything Samuel said was wise and helpful.

1Sam.3.20

And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.

1Sam.3.20

Everyone in Israel, from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south, recognized that Samuel was the real thing--a true prophet of GOD.

1Sam.3.20

And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the LORD.
