And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

John.8.2

but he was soon back in the Temple again. Swarms of people came to him. He sat down and taught them.

John.8.2

At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.

John.8.2

Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

John.8.2

but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them.

John.8.3

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

John.8.3

The religion scholars and Pharisees led in a woman who had been caught in an act of adultery. They stood her in plain sight of everyone

John.8.3

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group

John.8.3

Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,

John.8.3

As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and Pharisees brought a woman they had caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.

John.8.4

They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

John.8.4

and said, "Teacher, this woman was caught red-handed in the act of adultery.

John.8.4

and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.

John.8.4

they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.

John.8.4

"Teacher," they said to Jesus, "this woman was caught in the very act of adultery.

John.8.5

Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

John.8.5

Moses, in the Law, gives orders to stone such persons. What do you say?"

John.8.5

In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?"

John.8.5

Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?"

John.8.5

The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?"

John.8.6

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

John.8.6

They were trying to trap him into saying something incriminating so they could bring charges against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger in the dirt.

John.8.6

They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

John.8.6

This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.

John.8.6

They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.

John.8.7

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

John.8.7

They kept at him, badgering him. He straightened up and said, "The sinless one among you, go first: Throw the stone."

John.8.7

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

John.8.7

So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first."

John.8.7

They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, "All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!"

John.8.8

And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

John.8.8

Bending down again, he wrote some more in the dirt.

John.8.8

Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

John.8.8

And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

John.8.8

Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.

John.8.9

And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

John.8.9

Hearing that, they walked away, one after another, beginning with the oldest. The woman was left alone.

John.8.9

At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.

John.8.9

Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

John.8.9

When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman.

John.8.10

When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

John.8.10

Jesus stood up and spoke to her. "Woman, where are they? Does no one condemn you?"

John.8.10

Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"

John.8.10

When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?"

John.8.10

Then Jesus stood up again and said to her, "Where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?"

John.8.11

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

John.8.11

"No one, Master.Neither do I," said Jesus. "Go on your way. From now on, don't sin."

John.8.11

"No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

John.8.11

She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."

John.8.11

"No, Lord," she said. And Jesus said, "Neither do I. Go and sin no more."

John.8.12

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John.8.12

Jesus once again addressed them: "I am the world's Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in."

John.8.12

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

John.8.12

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

John.8.12

Jesus said to the people, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."

John.8.13

The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

John.8.13

The Pharisees objected, "All we have is your word on this. We need more than this to go on."

John.8.13

The Pharisees challenged him, "Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid."

John.8.13

The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true."

John.8.13

The Pharisees replied, "You are making false claims about yourself!"

John.8.14

Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

John.8.14

Jesus replied, "You're right that you only have my word. But you can depend on it being true. I know where I've come from and where I go next. You don't know where I'm from or where I'm headed.

John.8.14

Jesus answered, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.

John.8.14

Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.

John.8.14

Jesus told them, "These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don't know this about me.

John.8.15

Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

John.8.15

You decide according to what you can see and touch. I don't make judgments like that.

John.8.15

You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.

John.8.15

You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.

John.8.15

You judge me with all your human limitations, but I am not judging anyone.

John.8.16

And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

John.8.16

But even if I did, my judgment would be true because I wouldn't make it out of the narrowness of my experience but in the largeness of the One who sent me, the Father.

John.8.16

But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.

John.8.16

And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.

John.8.16

And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone--I have with me the Father who sent me.

John.8.17

It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

John.8.17

That fulfills the conditions set down in God's Law: that you can count on the testimony of two witnesses.

John.8.17

In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid.

John.8.17

It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.

John.8.17

Your own law says that if two people agree about something, their witness is accepted as fact.

John.8.18

I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

John.8.18

And that is what you have: You have my word and you have the word of the Father who sent me."

John.8.18

I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."

John.8.18

I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me."

John.8.18

I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other."

John.8.19

Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

John.8.19

They said, "Where is this so-called Father of yours?" Jesus said, "You're looking right at me and you don't see me. How do you expect to see the Father? If you knew me, you would at the same time know the Father."

John.8.19

Then they asked him, "Where is your father?"

John.8.19

Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also."

John.8.19

"Where is your father?" they asked. Jesus answered, "Since you don't know who I am, you don't know who my Father is. If you knew me, then you would know my Father, too."

John.8.20

These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

John.8.20

He gave this speech in the Treasury while teaching in the Temple. No one arrested him because his time wasn't yet up.

John.8.20

"You do not know me or my Father," Jesus replied. "If you knew me, you would know my Father also." He spoke these words while teaching in the temple area near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his time had not yet come.

John.8.20

These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.

John.8.20

Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come.

John.8.21

Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

John.8.21

Then he went over the same ground again. "I'm leaving and you are going to look for me, but you're missing God in this and are headed for a dead end. There is no way you can come with me."

John.8.21

Once more Jesus said to them, "I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come."

John.8.21

Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come."

John.8.21

Later Jesus said to them again, "I am going away. You will search for me and die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going."

John.8.22

Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

John.8.22

The Jews said, "So, is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means by "You can't come with me'?"

John.8.22

This made the Jews ask, "Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, 'Where I go, you cannot come'?"

John.8.22

So the Jews said, "Will He kill Himself, because He says, "Where I go you cannot come'?"

John.8.22

The Jewish leaders asked, "Is he planning to commit suicide? What does he mean, 'You cannot come where I am going'?"

John.8.23

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

John.8.23

Jesus said, "You're tied down to the mundane; I'm in touch with what is beyond your horizons. You live in terms of what you see and touch. I'm living on other terms.

John.8.23

But he continued, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

John.8.23

And He said to them, "You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

John.8.23

Then he said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not.

John.8.24

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

John.8.24

I told you that you were missing God in all this. You're at a dead end. If you won't believe I am who I say I am, you're at the dead end of sins. You're missing God in your lives."

John.8.24

I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins."

John.8.24

Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."

John.8.24

That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am who I say I am, you will die in your sins."

John.8.25

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

John.8.25

They said to him, "Just who are you anyway?" Jesus said, "What I've said from the start.

John.8.25

"Who are you?" they asked.

John.8.25

Then they said to Him, "Who are You?" And Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

John.8.25

"Tell us who you are," they demanded. Jesus replied, "I am the one I have always claimed to be.

John.8.26

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

John.8.26

I have so many things to say that concern you, judgments to make that affect you, but if you don't accept the trustworthiness of the One who commanded my words and acts, none of it matters. That is who you are questioning--not me but the One who sent me."

John.8.26

"Just what I have been claiming all along," Jesus replied. "I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is reliable, and what I have heard from him I tell the world."

John.8.26

I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him."

John.8.26

I have much to say about you and much to condemn, but I won't. For I say only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he is true."

John.8.27

They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

John.8.27

They still didn't get it, didn't realize that he was referring to the Father.

John.8.27

They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father.

John.8.27

They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.

John.8.27

But they still didn't understand that he was talking to them about his Father.

John.8.28

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

John.8.28

So Jesus tried again. "When you raise up the Son of Man, then you will know who I am--that I'm not making this up, but speaking only what the Father taught me.

John.8.28

So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.

John.8.28

Then Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

John.8.28

So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man on the cross, then you will realize that I am he and that I do nothing on my own, but I speak what the Father taught me.

John.8.29

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John.8.29

The One who sent me stays with me. He doesn't abandon me. He sees how much joy I take in pleasing him."

John.8.29

The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him."

John.8.29

And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him."

John.8.29

And the one who sent me is with me--he has not deserted me. For I always do those things that are pleasing to him."

John.8.30

As he spake these words, many believed on him.

John.8.30

When he put it in these terms, many people decided to believe.

John.8.30

Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him.

John.8.30

As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.

John.8.30

Then many who heard him say these things believed in him.

John.8.31

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

John.8.31

Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. "If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure.

John.8.31

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

John.8.31

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

John.8.31

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you keep obeying my teachings.

John.8.32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John.8.32

Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you."

John.8.32

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

John.8.32

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

John.8.32

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

John.8.33

They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

John.8.33

Surprised, they said, "But we're descendants of Abraham. We've never been slaves to anyone. How can you say, "The truth will free you'?"

John.8.33

They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?"

John.8.33

They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, "You will be made free'?"

John.8.33

"But we are descendants of Abraham," they said. "We have never been slaves to anyone on earth. What do you mean, 'set free'?"

John.8.34

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

John.8.34

Jesus said, "I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave.

John.8.34

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

John.8.34

Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.

John.8.34

Jesus replied, "I assure you that everyone who sins is a slave of sin.

John.8.35

And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

John.8.35

A slave is a transient, who can't come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house.

John.8.35

Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.

John.8.35

And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.

John.8.35

A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.

John.8.36

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John.8.36

So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through.

John.8.36

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

John.8.36

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

John.8.36

So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free.

John.8.37

I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

John.8.37

I know you are Abraham's descendants. But I also know that you are trying to kill me because my message hasn't yet penetrated your thick skulls.

John.8.37

I know you are Abraham's descendants. Yet you are ready to kill me, because you have no room for my word.

John.8.37

"I know that you are Abraham's descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.

John.8.37

Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because my message does not find a place in your hearts.

John.8.38

I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

John.8.38

I'm talking about things I have seen while keeping company with the Father, and you just go on doing what you have heard from your father."

John.8.38

I am telling you what I have seen in the Father's presence, and you do what you have heard from your father. "

John.8.38

I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father."

John.8.38

I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you are following the advice of your father."

John.8.39

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

John.8.39

They were indignant. "Our father is Abraham!" Jesus said, "If you were Abraham's children, you would have been doing the things Abraham did.

John.8.39

"Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you were Abraham's children," said Jesus, "then you would

John.8.39

They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.

John.8.39

"Our father is Abraham," they declared. "No," Jesus replied, "for if you were children of Abraham, you would follow his good example.

John.8.40

But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

John.8.40

And yet here you are trying to kill me, a man who has spoken to you the truth he got straight from God! Abraham never did that sort of thing.

John.8.40

do the things Abraham did. As it is, you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.

John.8.40

But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

John.8.40

I told you the truth I heard from God, but you are trying to kill me. Abraham wouldn't do a thing like that.

John.8.41

Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

John.8.41

You persist in repeating the works of your father." They said, "We're not bastards. We have a legitimate father: the one and only God."

John.8.41

You are doing the things your own father does.We are not illegitimate children," they protested. "The only Father we have is God himself."

John.8.41

You do the deeds of your father." Then they said to Him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father--God."

John.8.41

No, you are obeying your real father when you act that way." They replied, "We were not born out of wedlock! Our true Father is God himself."

John.8.42

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

John.8.42

"If God was your father," said Jesus, "you would love me, for I came from God and arrived here. I didn't come on my own. He sent me.

John.8.42

Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me.

John.8.42

Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.

John.8.42

Jesus told them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me.

John.8.43

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

John.8.43

Why can't you understand one word I say? Here's why: You can't handle it.

John.8.43

Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say.

John.8.43

Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word.

John.8.43

Why can't you understand what I am saying? It is because you are unable to do so!

John.8.44

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

John.8.44

You're from your father, the Devil, and all you want to do is please him. He was a killer from the very start. He couldn't stand the truth because there wasn't a shred of truth in him. When the Liar speaks, he makes it up out of his lying nature and fills the world with lies.

John.8.44

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John.8.44

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

John.8.44

For you are the children of your father the Devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning and has always hated the truth. There is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John.8.45

And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

John.8.45

I arrive on the scene, tell you the plain truth, and you refuse to have a thing to do with me.

John.8.45

Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!

John.8.45

But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.

John.8.45

So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don't believe me!

John.8.46

Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

John.8.46

Can any one of you convict me of a single misleading word, a single sinful act? But if I'm telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

John.8.46

Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

John.8.46

Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?

John.8.46

Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don't you believe me?

John.8.47

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

John.8.47

Anyone on God's side listens to God's words. This is why you're not listening--because you're not on God's side."

John.8.47

He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

John.8.47

He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God."

John.8.47

Anyone whose Father is God listens gladly to the words of God. Since you don't, it proves you aren't God's children."

John.8.48

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

John.8.48

The Jews then said, "That clinches it. We were right all along when we called you a Samaritan and said you were crazy--demon-possessed!"

John.8.48

The Jews answered him, "Aren't we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?"

John.8.48

Then the Jews answered and said to Him, "Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?"

John.8.48

The people retorted, "You Samaritan devil! Didn't we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?"

John.8.49

Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

John.8.49

Jesus said, "I'm not crazy. I simply honor my Father, while you dishonor me.

John.8.49

"I am not possessed by a demon," said Jesus, "but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.

John.8.49

Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.

John.8.49

"No," Jesus said, "I have no demon in me. For I honor my Father--and you dishonor me.

John.8.50

And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

John.8.50

I am not trying to get anything for myself. God intends something gloriously grand here and is making the decisions that will bring it about.

John.8.50

I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge.

John.8.50

And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.

John.8.50

And though I have no wish to glorify myself, God wants to glorify me. Let him be the judge.

John.8.51

Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

John.8.51

I say this with absolute confidence. If you practice what I'm telling you, you'll never have to look death in the face."

John.8.51

I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."

John.8.51

Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death."

John.8.51

I assure you, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!"

John.8.52

Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

John.8.52

At this point the Jews said, "Now we know you're crazy. Abraham died. The prophets died. And you show up saying, "If you practice what I'm telling you, you'll never have to face death, not even a taste.'

John.8.52

At this the Jews exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that if anyone keeps your word, he will never taste death.

John.8.52

Then the Jews said to Him, "Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, "If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.'

John.8.52

The people said, "Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the prophets died, but you say that those who obey your teaching will never die!

John.8.53

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

John.8.53

Are you greater than Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you think you are!"

John.8.53

Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?"

John.8.53

Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do You make Yourself out to be?"

John.8.53

Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? Are you greater than the prophets, who died? Who do you think you are?"

John.8.54

Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

John.8.54

Jesus said, "If I turned the spotlight on myself, it wouldn't amount to anything. But my Father, the same One you say is your Father, put me here at this time and place of splendor.

John.8.54

Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.

John.8.54

Jesus answered, "If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is your God.

John.8.54

Jesus answered, "If I am merely boasting about myself, it doesn't count. But it is my Father who says these glorious things about me. You say, 'He is our God,'

John.8.55

Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

John.8.55

You haven't recognized him in this. But I have. If I, in false modesty, said I didn't know what was going on, I would be as much of a liar as you are. But I do know, and I am doing what he says.

John.8.55

Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and keep his word.

John.8.55

Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, "I do not know Him,' I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word.

John.8.55

but you do not even know him. I know him. If I said otherwise, I would be as great a liar as you! But it is true--I know him and obey him.

John.8.56

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

John.8.56

Abraham--your "father'--with jubilant faith looked down the corridors of history and saw my day coming. He saw it and cheered."

John.8.56

Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad."

John.8.56

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad."

John.8.56

Your ancestor Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad."

John.8.57

Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

John.8.57

The Jews said, "You're not even fifty years old--and Abraham saw you?"

John.8.57

"You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!"

John.8.57

Then the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?"

John.8.57

The people said, "You aren't even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham? "

John.8.58

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

John.8.58

"Believe me," said Jesus, "I am who I am long before Abraham was anything."

John.8.58

"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"

John.8.58

Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."

John.8.58

Jesus answered, "The truth is, I existed before Abraham was even born!"

John.8.59

Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John.8.59

That did it--pushed them over the edge. They picked up rocks to throw at him. But Jesus slipped away, getting out of the Temple.

John.8.59

At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

John.8.59

Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John.8.59

At that point they picked up stones to kill him. But Jesus hid himself from them and left the Temple.
