At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

"But if you give them a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you'll soon wish you hadn't. You'd be better off dropped in the middle of the lake with a millstone around your neck.

"The poor wretch threw himself at the king's feet and begged, "Give me a chance and I'll pay it all back.'

Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made.

"The servant was no sooner out of the room when he came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him ten dollars. He seized him by the throat and demanded, "Pay up. Now!'

And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

When the other servants saw this going on, they were outraged and brought a detailed report to the king.

"But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.

And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.

But his creditor wouldn't wait. He had the man arrested and jailed until the debt could be paid in full.

So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

"The king summoned the man and said, "You evil servant! I forgave your entire debt when you begged me for mercy.

When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.

So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done.

"When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him what had happened.

Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

Shouldn't you be compelled to be merciful to your fellow servant who asked for mercy?'

"Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.

Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, "You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.

Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, 'You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me.

Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

The king was furious and put the screws to the man until he paid back his entire debt.

Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?'

Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?'

And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

And that's exactly what my Father in heaven is going to do to each one of you who doesn't forgive unconditionally anyone who asks for mercy."

In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

Then the angry king sent the man to prison until he had paid every penny.

So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
