And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

"Avenge the People of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you will go to be with your dead ancestors."

"Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people."

Num.31.2

"Take vengeance on the Midianites for the children of Israel. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people."

Num.31.2

"Take vengeance on the Midianites for leading the Israelites into idolatry. After that, you will die and join your ancestors."

Num.31.3

And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.

Num.31.3

Moses addressed the people: "Recruit men for a campaign against Midian, to exact GOD's vengeance on Midian,

Num.31.3

So Moses said to the people, "Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites and to carry out the LORD's vengeance on them.

Num.31.3

So Moses spoke to the people, saying, "Arm some of yourselves for war, and let them go against the Midianites to take vengeance for the LORD on Midian.

So Moses said to the people, "Choose some men to fight the LORD's war of vengeance against Midian.

Num.31.4

Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

a thousand from each tribe of Israel to go to war."

Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel."

Num.31.4

A thousand from each tribe of all the tribes of Israel you shall send to the war."

From each tribe of Israel, send one thousand men into battle."

So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

A fighting force of a thousand from each tribe of Israel--twelve thousand in all--was recruited.

So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.

So there were recruited from the divisions of Israel one thousand from each tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

Moses sent them off to war, a thousand from each tribe, and also Phinehas son of Eleazar, who went as priest to the army, in charge of holy vessels and the signaling bugles.

Then Moses sent them out, a thousand men from each tribe, and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest led them into battle. They carried along the holy objects of the sanctuary and the trumpets for sounding the charge.

And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

The People of Israel took the Midianite women and children captive and took all their animals and herds and goods as plunder.

The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.

And the children of Israel took the women of Midian captive, with their little ones, and took as spoil all their cattle, all their flocks, and all their goods.

And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

They took it all--captives and booty and plunder--back to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the company of Israel where they were camped on the Plains of Moab, at Jordan-Jericho.

and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.

And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

"What's this! You've let these women live!

Num.31.15

"Have you allowed all the women to live?" he asked them.

And Moses said to them: "Have you kept all the women alive?

Num.31.15

"Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded.

Num.31.16

Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

Num.31.16

They're the ones who, under Balaam's direction, seduced the People of Israel away from GOD in that mess at Peor, causing the plague that hit GOD's people.

Num.31.16

"They were the ones who followed Balaam's advice and were the means of turning the Israelites away from the LORD in what happened at Peor, so that a plague struck the LORD's people.

Num.31.16

Look, these women caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the LORD in the incident of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

"These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people.

Num.31.17

Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

Finish your job: kill all the boys. Kill every woman who has slept with a man.

But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

The younger women who are virgins you can keep alive for yourselves.

But keep alive for yourselves all the young girls who have not known a man intimately.

Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves.

And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

"Now here's what you are to do: Pitch tents outside the camp. All who have killed anyone or touched a corpse must stay outside the camp for seven days. Purify yourselves and your captives on the third and seventh days.

"All of you who have killed anyone or touched anyone who was killed must stay outside the camp seven days. On the third and seventh days you must purify yourselves and your captives.

And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses;

Eleazar the priest then spoke to the soldiers who had fought in the battle: "This is the ruling from the Revelation that GOD gave Moses:

Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, "This is the requirement of the law that the LORD gave Moses:

Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had gone to the battle, "This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses:

Then Eleazar the priest said to the men who were in the battle, "The LORD has given Moses this requirement of the law:

Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

Num.31.22

Gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, and lead

"Only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

Anything made of gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, or lead--

Num.31.23

Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

-and anything else that can survive fire--must be passed through the fire; then it will be ritually purified. It must also be ritually washed in the Water-of-Cleansing. Further, whatever cannot survive fire must be put through that water.

that is, metals that do not burn--must be passed through fire in order to be made ceremonially pure. These metal objects must then be further purified with the water of purification. But everything that burns must be purified by the water alone.

And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

On the seventh day scrub your clothes; you will be ritually clean. Then you can return to camp." [JC]

Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:

"I want you and Eleazar the priest and the family leaders in the community to count the captives, people and animals.

"You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the community are to count all the people and animals that were captured.

Num.31.26

"Count up the plunder that was taken--of man and beast--you and Eleazar the priest and the chief fathers of the congregation;

Num.31.26

"You and Eleazar the priest and the family leaders of each tribe are to make a list of all the plunder taken in the battle, including the people and animals.

Num.31.27

And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:

Split the plunder between the soldiers who fought the battle and the rest of the congregation.

Divide the spoils between the soldiers who took part in the battle and the rest of the community.

And levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:

"Then tax the booty that goes to the soldiers at the rate of one life out of five hundred, whether humans, cattle, donkeys, or sheep.

From the soldiers who fought in the battle, set apart as tribute for the LORD one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, sheep or goats.

And levy a tribute for the LORD on the men of war who went out to battle: one of every five hundred of the persons, the cattle, the donkeys, and the sheep;

But first give the LORD his share of the captives, cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats that belong to the army. Set apart one out of every five hundred as the LORD's share.

Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the LORD.

It's a GOD-tax taken from their half-share to be turned over to Eleazar the priest on behalf of GOD.

Take this tribute from their half share and give it to Eleazar the priest as the LORD's part.

And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.

Tax the congregation's half-share at the rate of one life out of fifty, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats, or other animals. Give this to the Levites who are in charge of the care of GOD's Dwelling."

From the Israelites' half, select one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats or other animals. Give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the LORD's tabernacle."

And the half, the portion for those who had gone out to war, was in number three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep;

So the half of the plunder given to the fighting men totaled 337,500 sheep,

And the LORD'S tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.

From the half-share going to the People of Israel, Moses, just as GOD had instructed him, picked one out of every fifty persons and animals and gave them to the Levites, who were in charge of maintaining GOD's Dwelling.

And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

and said, "We have counted the soldiers under our command and not a man is missing.

and said to him, "Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
