Num.25.1

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

Num.25.1

While Israel was camped at Shittim (Acacia Grove), the men began to have sex with the Moabite women.

Num.25.1

While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women,

Num.25.1

Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, and the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab.

Num.25.1

While the Israelites were camped at Acacia, some of the men defiled themselves by sleeping with the local Moabite women.

Num.25.2

And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

Num.25.2

It started when the women invited the men to their sex-and-religion worship. They ate together and then worshiped their gods.

who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate and bowed down before these gods.

They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.

Num.25.2

These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, and soon the Israelites were feasting with them and worshiping the gods of Moab.

Num.25.3

And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

Num.25.3

Israel ended up joining in the worship of the Baal of Peor. GOD was furious, his anger blazing out against Israel.

Num.25.3

So Israel joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor. And the LORD's anger burned against them.

Num.25.3

So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the LORD was aroused against Israel.

Num.25.3

Before long Israel was joining in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the LORD's anger to blaze against his people.

Num.25.4

And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

Num.25.4

GOD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of Israel and kill them by hanging, leaving them publicly exposed in order to turn GOD's anger away from Israel."

Num.25.4

The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD's fierce anger may turn away from Israel."

Num.25.4

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of the people and hang the offenders before the LORD, out in the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel."

Num.25.4

The LORD issued the following command to Moses: "Seize all the ringleaders and execute them before the LORD in broad daylight, so his fierce anger will turn away from the people of Israel."

Num.25.5

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

Num.25.5

Moses issued orders to the judges of Israel: "Each of you must execute the men under your jurisdiction who joined in the worship of Baal Peor."

Num.25.5

So Moses said to Israel's judges, "Each of you must put to death those of your men who have joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor."

Num.25.5

So Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor."

Num.25.5

So Moses ordered Israel's judges to execute everyone who had joined in worshiping Baal of Peor.

Num.25.6

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

Just then, while everyone was weeping in penitence at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, an Israelite man, flaunting his behavior in front of Moses and the whole assembly, paraded a Midianite woman into his family tent.

Num.25.6

Then an Israelite man brought to his family a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

Num.25.6

And indeed, one of the children of Israel came and presented to his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.

Num.25.6

Just then one of the Israelite men brought a Midianite woman into the camp, right before the eyes of Moses and all the people, as they were weeping at the entrance of the Tabernacle.

Num.25.7

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

Num.25.7

Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw what he was doing, grabbed his spear,

Num.25.7

When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand

Num.25.7

Now when Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose from among the congregation and took a javelin in his hand;

Num.25.7

When Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest saw this, he jumped up and left the assembly. Then he took a spear

Num.25.8

And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

Num.25.8

and followed them into the tent. With one thrust he drove the spear through the two of them, the man of Israel and the woman, right through their private parts. That stopped the plague from continuing among the People of Israel.

Num.25.8

and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear through both of them-through the Israelite and into the woman's body. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped;

and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stopped among the children of Israel.

and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man's body and into the woman's stomach. So the plague against the Israelites was stopped,

Num.25.9

And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

Num.25.9

But 24,000 had already died.

Num.25.9

but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.

And those who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

but not before 24,000 people had died.

Num.25.10

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

The LORD said to Moses,

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

Then the LORD said to Moses,

Num.25.11

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

Num.25.11

"Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has stopped my anger against the People of Israel. Because he was as zealous for my honor as I myself am, I didn't kill all the People of Israel in my zeal.

Num.25.11

"Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites; for he was as zealous as I am for my honor among them, so that in my zeal I did not put an end to them.

Num.25.11

"Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal.

Num.25.11

"Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest has turned my anger away from the Israelites by displaying passionate zeal among them on my behalf. So I have stopped destroying all Israel as I had intended to do in my anger.

Num.25.12

Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

Num.25.12

So tell him that I am making a Covenant-of-Peace with him.

Num.25.12

Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him.

Num.25.12

Therefore say, "Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace;

Num.25.12

So tell him that I am making my special covenant of peace with him.

Num.25.13

And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

Num.25.13

He and his descendants are joined in a covenant of eternal priesthood, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the People of Israel."

Num.25.13

He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites."

Num.25.13

and it shall be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel."'

Num.25.13

In this covenant, he and his descendants will be priests for all time, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel."

Num.25.14

Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

Num.25.14

The name of the man of Israel who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, the head of the Simeonite family.

Num.25.14

The name of the Israelite who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a Simeonite family.

Num.25.14

Now the name of the Israelite who was killed, who was killed with the Midianite woman, was Zimri the son of Salu, a leader of a father's house among the Simeonites.

Num.25.14

The Israelite man killed with the Midianite woman was named Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a family from the tribe of Simeon.

Num.25.15

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

Num.25.15

And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.

Num.25.15

And the name of the Midianite woman who was put to death was Cozbi daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.

Num.25.15

And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a father's house in Midian.

Num.25.15

The woman's name was Cozbi; she was the daughter of Zur, the leader of a Midianite clan.

Num.25.16

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

GOD spoke to Moses:

The LORD said to Moses,

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

Then the LORD said to Moses,

Num.25.17

Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

Num.25.17

"From here on make the Midianites your enemies. Fight them tooth and nail.

Num.25.17

"Treat the Midianites as enemies and kill them,

Num.25.17

"Harass the Midianites, and attack them;

Num.25.17

"Attack the Midianites and destroy them,

Num.25.18

For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.

Num.25.18

They turned out to be your enemies when they seduced you in the business of Peor and that woman Cozbi, daughter of a Midianite leader, the woman who was killed at the time of the plague in the matter of Peor."

Num.25.18

because they treated you as enemies when they deceived you in the affair of Peor and their sister Cozbi, the daughter of a Midianite leader, the woman who was killed when the plague came as a result of Peor."

Num.25.18

for they harassed you with their schemes by which they seduced you in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a leader of Midian, their sister, who was killed in the day of the plague because of Peor."

Num.25.18

because they assaulted you with deceit by tricking you into worshiping Baal of Peor, and because of Cozbi, the daughter of a Midianite leader, who was killed on the day of the plague at Peor."
