And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

By now Balaam realized that GOD wanted to bless Israel. So he didn't work in any sorcery as he had done earlier. He turned and looked out over the wilderness.

Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not resort to sorcery as at other times, but turned his face toward the desert.

By now Balaam realized that the LORD intended to bless Israel, so he did not resort to divination as he often did. Instead, he turned and looked out toward the wilderness,

And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.

As Balaam looked, he saw Israel camped tribe by tribe. The Spirit of God came on him,

And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:

and he spoke his oracle-message: Decree of Balaam son of Beor, yes, decree of a man with 20/20 vision;

and he uttered his oracle: "The oracle of Balaam son of Beor, the oracle of one whose eye sees clearly,

Then he took up his oracle and said: "The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, The utterance of the man whose eyes are opened,

and this is the prophecy he delivered: "This is the prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of the man whose eyes see clearly,

He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

Decree of a man who hears God speak, who sees what The Strong God shows him, Who falls on his face in worship, who sees what's really going on.

the oracle of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:

How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!

As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.

Like valleys stretching out in the distance, like gardens planted by rivers, Like sweet herbs planted by the gardener GOD, like red cedars by pools and springs,

He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

Their buckets will brim with water, their seed will spread life everywhere. Their king will tower over Agag and his ilk, their kingdom surpassingly majestic.

Water will flow from their buckets; their seed will have abundant water. "Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted.

He shall pour water from his buckets, And his seed shall be in many waters. "His king shall be higher than Agag, And his kingdom shall be exalted.

Water will gush out in buckets; their offspring are supplied with all they need. Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted.

God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.

God brought them out of Egypt, rampaging like a wild ox, Gulping enemies like morsels of meat, crushing their bones, snapping their arrows.

"God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox. They devour hostile nations and break their bones in pieces; with their arrows they pierce them.

"God brings him out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox; He shall consume the nations, his enemies; He shall break their bones And pierce them with his arrows.

God brought them up from Egypt, drawing them along like a wild ox. He devours all the nations that oppose him, breaking their bones in pieces, shooting them with arrows.

He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.

Israel crouches like a lion and naps, king-of-the-beasts--who dares disturb him? Whoever blesses you is blessed, whoever curses you is cursed.

Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness-who dares to rouse them? "May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!"

"He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?' "Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you."

Like a lion, Israel crouches and lies down; like a lioness, who dares to arouse her? Blessed is everyone who blesses you, O Israel, and cursed is everyone who curses you."

And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.

Balak lost his temper with Balaam. He shook his fist. He said to Balaam: "I got you in here to curse my enemies and what have you done? Blessed them! Blessed them three times!

Then Balak's anger burned against Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to him, "I summoned you to curse my enemies, but you have blessed them these three times.

Then Balak's anger was aroused against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, "I called you to curse my enemies, and look, you have bountifully blessed them these three times!

King Balak flew into a rage against Balaam. He angrily clapped his hands and shouted, "I called you to curse my enemies! Instead, you have blessed them three times.

Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.
Num.24.11
Get out of here! Go home! I told you I would pay you well, but you're getting nothing. You can blame GOD."

Now leave at once and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the LORD has kept you from being rewarded."

Now therefore, flee to your place. I said I would greatly honor you, but in fact, the LORD has kept you back from honor."

Now get out of here! Go back home! I had planned to reward you richly, but the LORD has kept you from your reward."

And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,

Balaam said to Balak, "Didn't I tell you up front when you sent your emissaries,

Balaam answered Balak, "Did I not tell the messengers you sent me,

So Balaam said to Balak, "Did I not also speak to your messengers whom you sent to me, saying,

Balaam told Balak, "Don't you remember what I told your messengers? I said,

If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?
Num.24.13
"Even if Balak gave me his palace stuffed with silver and gold, I couldn't do anything on my own, whether good or bad, that went against GOD's command'?
Num.24.13
'Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD -and I must say only what the LORD says'?
Num.24.13
"If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the LORD, to do good or bad of my own will. What the LORD says, that I must speak'?
Num.24.13
`Even if Balak were to give me a palace filled with silver and gold, I am powerless to do anything against the will of the LORD.' I told you that I could say only what the LORD says!
Num.24.14
And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.

I'm leaving for home and my people, but I warn you of what this people will do to your people in the days to come."

Now I am going back to my people, but come, let me warn you of what this people will do to your people in days to come."

And now, indeed, I am going to my people. Come, I will advise you what this people will do to your people in the latter days."

Now I am returning to my own people. But first let me tell you what the Israelites will do to your people in the future."

And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:

This is the prophecy Balaam delivered: "This is the message of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of the man whose eyes see clearly,

He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

Decree of the man who hears godly speech, who knows what's going on with the High God, Who sees what The Strong God reveals, who bows in worship and sees what's real.

I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

I see him, but not right now, I perceive him, but not right here; A star rises from Jacob a scepter from Israel, Crushing the heads of Moab, the skulls of all the noisy windbags;

"I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth.

"I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult.

I see him, but not in the present time. I perceive him, but far in the distant future. A star will rise from Jacob; a scepter will emerge from Israel. It will crush the foreheads of Moab's people, cracking the skulls of the people of Sheth.

And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.

I see Edom sold off at auction, enemy Seir marked down at the flea market, while Israel walks off with the trophies.

Edom will be conquered; Seir, his enemy, will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong.

"And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also, his enemies, shall be a possession, While Israel does valiantly.
Num.24.18
Edom will be taken over, and Seir, its enemy, will be conquered, while Israel continues on in triumph.
Num.24.19
Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.

A ruler is coming from Jacob who'll destroy what's left in the city. [JC]

A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city."

Out of Jacob One shall have dominion, And destroy the remains of the city."

A ruler will rise in Jacob who will destroy the survivors of Ir."
Num.24.20
And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
Num.24.20
Then Balaam spotted Amalek and delivered an oracle-message. He said, Amalek, you're in first place among nations right now, but you're going to come in last, ruined. [JC]

Then Balaam saw Amalek and uttered his oracle: "Amalek was first among the nations, but he will come to ruin at last."

Then he looked on Amalek, and he took up his oracle and said: "Amalek was first among the nations, But shall be last until he perishes."

Then Balaam looked over at the people of Amalek and delivered this prophecy: "Amalek was the greatest of nations, but its destiny is destruction!"
Num.24.21
And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.
Num.24.21
He saw the Kenites and delivered his oracle-message to them: Your home is in a nice secure place, like a nest high on the face of a cliff.

Then he saw the Kenites and uttered his oracle: "Your dwelling place is secure, your nest is set in a rock;

Then he looked on the Kenites, and he took up his oracle and said: "Firm is your dwelling place, And your nest is set in the rock;

Then he looked over at the Kenites and prophesied: "You are strongly situated; your nest is set in the rocks.
Num.24.22
Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.
Num.24.22
Still, you Kenites will look stupid when Asshur takes you prisoner. [JC]
Num.24.22
yet you Kenites will be destroyed when Asshur takes you captive."
Num.24.22
Nevertheless Kain shall be burned. How long until Asshur carries you away captive?"
Num.24.22
But the Kenites will be destroyed when Assyria takes you captive."
Num.24.23
And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this!

Balaam spoke his final oracle-message: Doom! Who stands a chance when God starts in?

Then he uttered his oracle: "Ah, who can live when God does this?
Num.24.23
Then he took up his oracle and said: "Alas! Who shall live when God does this?
Num.24.23
Balaam concluded his prophecies by saying: "Alas, who can survive when God does this?
Num.24.24
And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
Num.24.24
Sea-Peoples, raiders from across the sea, will harass Asshur and Eber, But they'll also come to nothing, just like all the rest.
Num.24.24
Ships will come from the shores of Kittim; they will subdue Asshur and Eber, but they too will come to ruin."
Num.24.24
But ships shall come from the coasts of Cyprus, And they shall afflict Asshur and afflict Eber, And so shall Amalek, until he perishes."

Ships will come from the coasts of Cyprus; they will oppress both Assyria and Eber, but they, too, will be utterly destroyed."

And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.
