Hos.2.2

Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;

Hos.2.2

"Haul your mother into court. Accuse her! She's no longer my wife. I'm no longer her husband. Tell her to quit dressing like a whore, displaying her breasts for sale.

Hos.2.2

"Rebuke your mother, rebuke her, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the adulterous look from her face and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.

Hos.2.2

"Bring charges against your mother, bring charges; For she is not My wife, nor am I her Husband! Let her put away her harlotries from her sight, And her adulteries from between her breasts;

Hos.2.2

"But now, call Israel to account, for she is no longer my wife, and I am no longer her husband. Tell her to take off her garish makeup and suggestive clothing and to stop playing the prostitute.

Hos.2.3

Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

Hos.2.3

If she refuses, I'll rip off her clothes and expose her, naked as a newborn. I'll turn her skin into dried-out leather, her body into a badlands landscape, a rack of bones in the desert.

Hos.2.3

Otherwise I will strip her naked and make her as bare as on the day she was born; I will make her like a desert, turn her into a parched land, and slay her with thirst.

Hos.2.3

Lest I strip her naked And expose her, as in the day she was born, And make her like a wilderness, And set her like a dry land, And slay her with thirst.

Hos.2.3

If she doesn't, I will strip her as naked as she was on the day she was born. I will leave her to die of thirst, as in a desert or a dry and barren wilderness.

Hos.2.4

And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

Hos.2.4

I'll have nothing to do with her children, born one and all in a whorehouse.

Hos.2.4

I will not show my love to her children, because they are the children of adultery.

Hos.2.4

"I will not have mercy on her children, For they are the children of harlotry.

Hos.2.4

And I will not love her children as I would my own because they are not my children! They were conceived in adultery.

Hos.2.5

For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

Hos.2.5

Face it: Your mother's been a whore, bringing bastard children into the world. She said, "I'm off to see my lovers! They'll wine and dine me, Dress and caress me, perfume and adorn me!'

Hos.2.5

Their mother has been unfaithful and has conceived them in disgrace. She said, 'I will go after my lovers, who give me my food and my water, my wool and my linen, my oil and my drink.'

Hos.2.5

For their mother has played the harlot; She who conceived them has behaved shamefully. For she said, "I will go after my lovers, Who give me my bread and my water, My wool and my linen, My oil and my drink.'

Hos.2.5

For their mother is a shameless prostitute and became pregnant in a shameful way. She said, `I'll run after other lovers and sell myself to them for food and drink, for clothing of wool and linen, and for olive oil.'

Hos.2.6

Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.

Hos.2.6

But I'll fix her: I'll dump her in a field of thistles, then lose her in a dead-end alley.

Hos.2.6

Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way.

Hos.2.6

"Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, And wall her in, So that she cannot find her paths.

Hos.2.6

"But I will fence her in with thornbushes. I will block the road to make her lose her way.

Hos.2.7

And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.

Hos.2.7

She'll go on the hunt for her lovers but not bring down a single one. She'll look high and low but won't find a one. Then she'll say, "I'm going back to my husband, the one I started out with. That was a better life by far than this one.'

Hos.2.7

She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, 'I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now.'

Hos.2.7

She will chase her lovers, But not overtake them; Yes, she will seek them, but not find them. Then she will say, "I will go and return to my first husband, For then it was better for me than now.'

Hos.2.7

When she runs after her lovers, she won't be able to catch up with them. She will search for them but not find them. Then she will think, `I might as well return to my husband because I was better off with him than I am now.'

Hos.2.8

For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.

Hos.2.8

She didn't know that it was I all along who wined and dined and adorned her, That I was the one who dressed her up in the big-city fashions and jewelry that she wasted on wild Baal-orgies.

Hos.2.8

She has not acknowledged that I was the one who gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, who lavished on her the silver and gold- which they used for Baal.

Hos.2.8

For she did not know That I gave her grain, new wine, and oil, And multiplied her silver and gold-- Which they prepared for Baal.

Hos.2.8

She doesn't realize that it was I who gave her everything she has--the grain, the wine, the olive oil. Even the gold and silver she used in worshiping the god Baal were gifts from me!

Hos.2.9

Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.

Hos.2.9

I'm about to bring her up short: No more wining and dining! Silk lingerie and gowns are a thing of the past.

Hos.2.9

"Therefore I will take away my grain when it ripens, and my new wine when it is ready. I will take back my wool and my linen, intended to cover her nakedness.

Hos.2.9

"Therefore I will return and take away My grain in its time And My new wine in its season, And will take back My wool and My linen, Given to cover her nakedness.

Hos.2.9

"But now I will take back the wine and ripened grain I generously provided each harvest season. I will take away the linen and wool clothing I gave her to cover her nakedness.

Hos.2.10

And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.

Hos.2.10

I'll expose her genitals to the public. All her fly-by-night lovers will be helpless to help her.

Hos.2.10

So now I will expose her lewdness before the eyes of her lovers; no one will take her out of my hands.

Hos.2.10

Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, And no one shall deliver her from My hand.

Hos.2.10

I will strip her naked in public, while all her lovers look on. No one will be able to rescue her from my hands.

Hos.2.11

I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

Hos.2.11

Party time is over. I'm calling a halt to the whole business, her wild weekends and unholy holidays.

Hos.2.11

I will stop all her celebrations: her yearly festivals, her New Moons, her Sabbath days-all her appointed feasts.

Hos.2.11

I will also cause all her mirth to cease, Her feast days, Her New Moons, Her Sabbaths-- All her appointed feasts.

Hos.2.11

I will put an end to her annual festivals, her new moon celebrations, and her Sabbath days--all her appointed festivals.

Hos.2.12

And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.

Hos.2.12

I'll wreck her sumptuous gardens and ornamental fountains, of which she bragged, "Whoring paid for all this!' They will soon be dumping grounds for garbage, feeding grounds for stray dogs and cats.

Hos.2.12

I will ruin her vines and her fig trees, which she said were her pay from her lovers; I will make them a thicket, and wild animals will devour them.

Hos.2.12

"And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, Of which she has said, "These are my wages that my lovers have given me.' So I will make them a forest, And the beasts of the field shall eat them.

Hos.2.12

I will destroy her vineyards and orchards, things she claims her lovers gave her. I will let them grow into tangled thickets, where only wild animals will eat the fruit.

Hos.2.13

And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the LORD.

Hos.2.13

I'll make her pay for her indulgence in promiscuous religion--all that sensuous Baal worship And all the promiscuous sex that went with it, stalking her lovers, dressed to kill, And not a thought for me." GOD's Message!

Hos.2.13

I will punish her for the days she burned incense to the Baals; she decked herself with rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but me she forgot," declares the LORD.

Hos.2.13

I will punish her For the days of the Baals to which she burned incense. She decked herself with her earrings and jewelry, And went after her lovers; But Me she forgot," says the LORD.

Hos.2.13

I will punish her for all the times she deserted me, when she burned incense to her images of Baal, put on her earrings and jewels, and went out looking for her lovers," says the LORD.

Hos.2.14

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.

Hos.2.14

"And now, here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to start all over again. I'm taking her back out into the wilderness where we had our first date, and I'll court her.

Hos.2.14

"Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her.

Hos.2.14

"Therefore, behold, I will allure her, Will bring her into the wilderness, And speak comfort to her.

Hos.2.14

"But then I will win her back once again. I will lead her out into the desert and speak tenderly to her there.

Hos.2.15

And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

Hos.2.15

I'll give her bouquets of roses. I'll turn Heartbreak Valley into Acres of Hope. She'll respond like she did as a young girl, those days when she was fresh out of Egypt. [JC]

Hos.2.15

There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will sing as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.

Hos.2.15

I will give her her vineyards from there, And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; She shall sing there, As in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt.

Hos.2.15

I will return her vineyards to her and transform the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope. She will give herself to me there, as she did long ago when she was young, when I freed her from her captivity in Egypt.

Hos.2.16

And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.

Hos.2.16

"At that time"--this is GOD's Message still--"you'll address me, "Dear husband!' Never again will you address me, "My slave-master!'

Hos.2.16

"In that day," declares the LORD, "you will call me 'my husband'; you will no longer call me 'my master. '

Hos.2.16

"And it shall be, in that day," Says the LORD, "That you will call Me "My Husband,' And no longer call Me "My Master,'

Hos.2.16

"In that coming day," says the LORD, "you will call me `my husband' instead of `my master.'

Hos.2.17

For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.

Hos.2.17

I'll wash your mouth out with soap, get rid of all the dirty false-god names, not so much as a whisper of those names again.

Hos.2.17

I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips; no longer will their names be invoked.

Hos.2.17

For I will take from her mouth the names of the Baals, And they shall be remembered by their name no more.

Hos.2.17

O Israel, I will cause you to forget your images of Baal; even their names will no longer be spoken.

Hos.2.18

And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.

Hos.2.18

At the same time I'll make a peace treaty between you and wild animals and birds and reptiles, And get rid of all weapons of war. Think of it! Safe from beasts and bullies!

Hos.2.18

In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the creatures that move along the ground. Bow and sword and battle I will abolish from the land, so that all may lie down in safety.

Hos.2.18

In that day I will make a covenant for them With the beasts of the field, With the birds of the air, And with the creeping things of the ground. Bow and sword of battle I will shatter from the earth, To make them lie down safely.

Hos.2.18

At that time I will make a covenant with all the wild animals and the birds and the animals that scurry along the ground so that they will not harm you. I will remove all weapons of war from the land, all swords and bows, so you can live unafraid in peace and safety.

Hos.2.19

And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.

Hos.2.19

And then I'll marry you for good--forever! I'll marry you true and proper, in love and tenderness.

Hos.2.19

I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion.

Hos.2.19

"I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;

Hos.2.19

I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion.

Hos.2.20

I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.

Hos.2.20

Yes, I'll marry you and neither leave you nor let you go. You'll know me, GOD, for who I really am. [JC]

Hos.2.20

I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.

Hos.2.20

I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the LORD.

Hos.2.20

I will be faithful to you and make you mine, and you will finally know me as LORD.

Hos.2.21

And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;

Hos.2.21

"On the very same day, I'll answer"--this is GOD's Message--"I'll answer the sky, sky will answer earth,

Hos.2.21

"In that day I will respond," declares the LORD - "I will respond to the skies, and they will respond to the earth;

Hos.2.21

"It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer," says the LORD; "I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.

Hos.2.21

"In that day," says the LORD, "I will answer the pleading of the sky for clouds, which will pour down water on the earth in answer to its cries for rain.

Hos.2.22

And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.

Hos.2.22

Earth will answer grain and wine and olive oil, and they'll all answer Jezreel.

Hos.2.22

and the earth will respond to the grain, the new wine and oil, and they will respond to Jezreel.

Hos.2.22

The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.

Hos.2.22

Then the earth will answer the thirsty cries of the grain, the grapes, and the olive trees for moisture. And the whole grand chorus will sing together, `Jezreel'--`God plants!'

Hos.2.23

And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.

Hos.2.23

I'll plant her in the good earth. I'll have mercy on No-Mercy. I'll say to Nobody, "You're my dear Somebody,' and he'll say "You're my God!'"

Hos.2.23

I will plant her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called 'Not my loved one. 'I will say to those called 'Not my people, You are my people'; and they will say, 'You are my God.'"

Hos.2.23

Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, "You are My people!' And they shall say, "You are my God!"'

Hos.2.23

"At that time I will plant a crop of Israelites and raise them for myself! I will show love to those I called `Not loved.' And to those I called `Not my people,' I will say, `Now you are my people.' Then they will reply, `You are our God!'"
