Hos.1.1

The word of the LORD that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

Hos.1.1

This is God's Message to Hosea son of Beeri. It came to him during the royal reigns of Judah's kings Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. This was also the time that Jeroboam son of Joash was king over Israel.

The word of the LORD that came to Hosea son of Beeri during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the reign of Jeroboam son of Jehoash king of Israel:

Hos.1.1

The word of the LORD that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

Hos.1.1

The LORD gave these messages to Hosea son of Beeri during the years when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah, and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel.

Hos.1.2

The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD.

Hos.1.2

The first time GOD spoke to Hosea he said: "Find a whore and marry her. Make this whore the mother of your children. And here's why: This whole country has become a whorehouse, unfaithful to me, GOD."

Hos.1.2

When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, "Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the LORD."

Hos.1.2

When the LORD began to speak by Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea: "Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry And children of harlotry, For the land has committed great harlotry By departing from the LORD."

Hos.1.2

When the LORD first began speaking to Israel through Hosea, he said to him, "Go and marry a prostitute, so some of her children will be born to you from other men. This will illustrate the way my people have been untrue to me, openly committing adultery against the LORD by worshiping other gods."

Hos.1.3

So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.

Hos.1.3

Hosea did it. He picked Gomer daughter of Diblaim. She got pregnant and gave him a son.

Hos.1.3

So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.

Hos.1.3

So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.

Hos.1.3

So Hosea married Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, and she became pregnant and gave Hosea a son.

Hos.1.4

And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.

Hos.1.4

Then GOD told him: "Name him Jezreel. It won't be long now before I'll make the people of Israel pay for the massacre at Jezreel. I'm calling it quits on the kingdom of Israel.

Hos.1.4

Then the LORD said to Hosea, "Call him Jezreel, because I will soon punish the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel.

Hos.1.4

Then the LORD said to him: "Call his name Jezreel, For in a little while I will avenge the bloodshed of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, And bring an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.

Hos.1.4

And the LORD said, "Name the child Jezreel, for I am about to punish King Jehu's dynasty to avenge the murders he committed at Jezreel.

Hos.1.5

And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.

Hos.1.5

Payday is coming! I'm going to chop Israel's bows and arrows into kindling in the valley of Jezreel." [JC]

Hos.1.5

In that day I will break Israel's bow in the Valley of Jezreel."

Hos.1.5

It shall come to pass in that day That I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel."

Hos.1.5

In fact, I will put an end to Israel's independence by breaking its military power in the Jezreel Valley."

Hos.1.6

And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.

Hos.1.6

Gomer got pregnant again. This time she had a daughter. GOD told Hosea: "Name this one No-Mercy. I'm fed up with Israel. I've run out of mercy. There's no more forgiveness.

Hos.1.6

Gomer conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. Then the LORD said to Hosea, "Call her Lo-Ruhamah, for I will no longer show love to the house of Israel, that I should at all forgive them.

Hos.1.6

And she conceived again and bore a daughter. Then God said to him: "Call her name Lo-Ruhamah, For I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, But I will utterly take them away.

Hos.1.6

Soon Gomer became pregnant again and gave birth to a daughter. And the LORD said to Hosea, "Name your daughter Lo-ruhamah--`Not loved'--for I will no longer show love to the people of Israel or forgive them.

Hos.1.7

But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

Hos.1.7

Judah's another story. I'll continue having mercy on them. I'll save them. It will be their GOD who saves them, Not their armaments and armies, not their horsepower and manpower." [JC]

Hos.1.7

Yet I will show love to the house of Judah; and I will save them-not by bow, sword or battle, or by horses and horsemen, but by the LORD their God."

Hos.1.7

Yet I will have mercy on the house of Judah, Will save them by the LORD their God, And will not save them by bow, Nor by sword or battle, By horses or horsemen."

Hos.1.7

But I, the LORD their God, will show love to the people of Judah. I will personally free them from their enemies without any help from weapons or armies."

Hos.1.8

Now when she had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.

Hos.1.8

After Gomer had weaned No-Mercy, she got pregnant yet again and had a son.

Hos.1.8

After she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, Gomer had another son.

Hos.1.8

Now when she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived and bore a son.

Hos.1.8

After Gomer had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she again became pregnant and gave birth to a second son.

Hos.1.9

Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.

Hos.1.9

GOD said: "Name him Nobody. You've become nobodies to me, and I, GOD, am a nobody to you.

Hos.1.9

Then the LORD said, "Call him Lo-Ammi, for you are not my people, and I am not your God.

Hos.1.9

Then God said: "Call his name Lo-Ammi, For you are not My people, And I will not be your God.

Hos.1.9

And the LORD said, "Name him Lo-ammi--`Not my people'--for Israel is not my people, and I am not their God.

Hos.1.10

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

Hos.1.10

"But down the road the population of Israel is going to explode past counting, like sand on the ocean beaches. In the very place where they were once named Nobody, they will be named God's Somebody.

Hos.1.10

"Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' they will be called 'sons of the living God.'

Hos.1.10

"Yet the number of the children of Israel Shall be as the sand of the sea, Which cannot be measured or numbered. And it shall come to pass In the place where it was said to them, "You are not My people,' There it shall be said to them, "You are sons of the living God.'

Hos.1.10

Yet the time will come when Israel will prosper and become a great nation. In that day its people will be like the sands of the seashore--too many to count! Then, at the place where they were told, `You are not my people,' it will be said, `You are children of the living God.'

Hos.1.11

Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

Hos.1.11

Everybody in Judah and everybody in Israel will be assembled as one people. They'll choose a single leader. There'll be no stopping them--a great day in Jezreel! [JC]

Hos.1.11

The people of Judah and the people of Israel will be reunited, and they will appoint one leader and will come up out of the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel.

Hos.1.11

Then the children of Judah and the children of Israel Shall be gathered together, And appoint for themselves one head; And they shall come up out of the land, For great will be the day of Jezreel!

Hos.1.11

Then the people of Judah and Israel will unite under one leader, and they will return from exile together. What a day that will be--the day of Jezreel--when God will again plant his people in his land. 1In that day you will call your brothers Ammi--`My people.' And you will call your sisters Ruhamah--`The ones I love.'
