Ezek.8.1

And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell there upon me.

Ezek.8.1

In the sixth year, in the sixth month and the fifth day, while I was sitting at home meeting with the leaders of Judah, it happened that the hand of my Master, GOD, gripped me.

Ezek.8.1

In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, the hand of the Sovereign LORD came upon me there.

And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house with the elders of Judah sitting before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell upon me there.

Ezek.8.1

Then on September 17, during the sixth year of King Jehoiachin's captivity, while the leaders of Judah were in my home, the Sovereign LORD took hold of me.

Ezek.8.2

Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even downward, fire; and from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of amber.

Ezek.8.2

When I looked, I was astonished. What I saw looked like a man--from the waist down like fire and from the waist up like highly burnished bronze.

Ezek.8.2

I looked, and I saw a figure like that of a man. From what appeared to be his waist down he was like fire, and from there up his appearance was as bright as glowing metal.

Ezek.8.2

Then I looked, and there was a likeness, like the appearance of fire--from the appearance of His waist and downward, fire; and from His waist and upward, like the appearance of brightness, like the color of amber.

Ezek.8.2

I saw a figure that appeared to be a man. From the waist down he looked like a burning flame. From the waist up he looked like gleaming amber.

Ezek.8.3

And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.

Ezek.8.3

He reached out what looked like a hand and grabbed me by the hair. The Spirit swept me high in the air and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the Temple's inside court where the image of the sex goddess that makes God so angry had been set up.

He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance to the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood.

He stretched out the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my hair; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven, and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the north gate of the inner court, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.

He put out what seemed to be a hand and took me by the hair. Then the Spirit lifted me up into the sky and transported me in a vision of God to Jerusalem. I was taken to the north gate of the inner courtyard of the Temple, where there is a large idol that has made the LORD very angry.

Ezek.8.4

And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the vision that I saw in the plain.

Right before me was the Glory of the God of Israel, exactly like the vision I had seen out on the plain.

And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.

And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the vision that I saw in the plain.

Suddenly, the glory of the God of Israel was there, just as I had seen it before in the valley.

Ezek.8.5

Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.

Ezek.8.5

He said to me, "Son of man, look north." I looked north and saw it: Just north of the entrance loomed the altar of the sex goddess, Asherah, that makes God so angry.

Ezek.8.5

Then he said to me, "Son of man, look toward the north." So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.

Ezek.8.5

Then He said to me, "Son of man, lift your eyes now toward the north." So I lifted my eyes toward the north, and there, north of the altar gate, was this image of jealousy in the entrance.

Ezek.8.5

Then the LORD said to me, "Son of man, look toward the north." So I looked, and there to the north, beside the entrance to the gate of the altar, stood the idol that had made the LORD so angry.

Ezek.8.6

He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.

Ezek.8.6

Then he said, "Son of man, do you see what they're doing? Outrageous obscenities! And doing them right here! It's enough to drive me right out of my own Temple. But you're going to see worse yet." [JC]

Ezek.8.6

And he said to me, "Son of man, do you see what they are doing-the utterly detestable things the house of Israel is doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable."

Ezek.8.6

Furthermore He said to me, "Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel commits here, to make Me go far away from My sanctuary? Now turn again, you will see greater abominations."

Ezek.8.6

"Son of man," he said, "do you see what they are doing? Do you see the great sins the people of Israel are doing to drive me from my Temple? But come, and you will see even greater sins than these!"

Ezek.8.7

And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.

He brought me to the door of the Temple court. I looked and saw a gaping hole in the wall.

Then he brought me to the entrance to the court. I looked, and I saw a hole in the wall.

So He brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, there was a hole in the wall.

Then he brought me to the door of the Temple courtyard, where I could see an opening in the wall.

Ezek.8.8

Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.

Ezek.8.8

He said, "Son of man, dig through the wall." I dug through the wall and came upon a door.

Ezek.8.8

He said to me, "Son of man, now dig into the wall." So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.

Ezek.8.8

Then He said to me, "Son of man, dig into the wall"; and when I dug into the wall, there was a door.

Ezek.8.8

He said to me, "Now, son of man, dig into the wall." So I dug into the wall and uncovered a door to a hidden room.

Ezek.8.9

And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.

Ezek.8.9

He said, "Now walk through the door and take a look at the obscenities they're engaging in."

Ezek.8.9

And he said to me, "Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here."

Ezek.8.9

And He said to me, "Go in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing there."

Ezek.8.9

"Go in," he said, "and see the unspeakable wickedness going on in there!"

Ezek.8.10

So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.

Ezek.8.10

I entered and looked. I couldn't believe my eyes: Painted all over the walls were pictures of reptiles and animals and monsters--the whole pantheon of Egyptian gods and goddesses--being worshiped by Israel.

So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and detestable animals and all the idols of the house of Israel.

So I went in and saw, and there--every sort of creeping thing, abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed all around on the walls.

Ezek.8.10

So I went in and saw the walls engraved with all kinds of snakes, lizards, and hideous creatures. I also saw the various idols worshiped by the people of Israel.

And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.

Ezek.8.11

In the middle of the room were seventy of the leaders of Israel, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing in the middle. Each held his censer with the incense rising in a fragrant cloud.

In front of them stood seventy elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.

And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, and in their midst stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan. Each man had a censer in his hand, and a thick cloud of incense went up.

Ezek.8.11

Seventy leaders of Israel were standing there with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan in the middle. Each of them held an incense burner, so there was a thick cloud of incense above their heads.

Ezek.8.12

Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.

Ezek.8.12

He said, "Son of man, do you see what the elders are doing here in the dark, each one before his favorite god-picture? They tell themselves, "GOD doesn't see us. GOD has forsaken the country.'"

Ezek.8.12

He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, 'The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land.'"

Ezek.8.12

Then He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the room of his idols? For they say, "The LORD does not see us, the LORD has forsaken the land."'

Ezek.8.12

Then the LORD said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the leaders of Israel are doing with their idols in dark rooms? They are saying, `The LORD doesn't see us; he has deserted our land!'"

Ezek.8.13

He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.

Ezek.8.13

Then he said, "You're going to see worse yet." [JC]

Ezek.8.13

Again, he said, "You will see them doing things that are even more detestable."

Ezek.8.13

And He said to me, "Turn again, and you will see greater abominations that they are doing."

Ezek.8.13

Then he added, "Come, and I will show you greater sins than these!"

Ezek.8.14

Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD'S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.

Ezek.8.14

He took me to the entrance at the north gate of the Temple of GOD. I saw women sitting there, weeping for Tammuz, the Babylonian fertility god.

Ezek.8.14

Then he brought me to the entrance to the north gate of the house of the LORD, and I saw women sitting there, mourning for Tammuz.

Ezek.8.14

So He brought me to the door of the north gate of the LORD's house; and to my dismay, women were sitting there weeping for Tammuz.

Ezek.8.14

He brought me to the north gate of the LORD's Temple, and some women were sitting there, weeping for the god Tammuz.

Ezek.8.15

Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.

Ezek.8.15

He said, "Have you gotten an eyeful, son of man? You're going to see worse yet." [JC]

Ezek.8.15

He said to me, "Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this."

Ezek.8.15

Then He said to me, "Have you seen this, O son of man? Turn again, you will see greater abominations than these."

Ezek.8.15

"Have you seen this?" he asked. "But I will show you even greater sins than these!"

Ezek.8.16

And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.

Ezek.8.16

Finally, he took me to the inside court of the Temple of GOD. There between the porch and the altar were about twenty-five men. Their backs were to GOD's Temple. They were facing east, bowing in worship to the sun.

Ezek.8.16

He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.

Ezek.8.16

So He brought me into the inner court of the LORD's house; and there, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.

Ezek.8.16

Then he brought me into the inner courtyard of the LORD's Temple. At the entrance, between the foyer and the bronze altar, about twenty-five men were standing with their backs to the LORD's Temple. They were facing eastward, worshiping the sun!

Ezek.8.17

Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.

Ezek.8.17

He said, "Have you seen enough, son of man? Isn't it bad enough that Judah engages in these outrageous obscenities? They fill the country with violence and now provoke me even further with their obscene gestures.

Ezek.8.17

He said to me, "Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the house of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually provoke me to anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose!

Ezek.8.17

And He said to me, "Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a trivial thing to the house of Judah to commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence; then they have returned to provoke Me to anger. Indeed they put the branch to their nose.

Ezek.8.17

"Have you seen this, son of man?" he asked. "Is it nothing to the people of Judah that they commit these terrible sins, leading the whole nation into violence, thumbing their noses at me, and rousing my fury against them?

Ezek.8.18

Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

Ezek.8.18

That's it. They have an angry God on their hands! From now on, no mercy. They can shout all they want, but I'm not listening."

Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them."

Ezek.8.18

Therefore I also will act in fury. My eye will not spare nor will I have pity; and though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them."

Ezek.8.18

Therefore, I will deal with them in fury. I will neither pity nor spare them. And though they scream for mercy, I will not listen."
