Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time:

Jer.13.3

And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying,

Jer.13.3

Then the LORD gave me another message:

Jer.13.4

Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

Jer.13.4

"Take the shorts that you bought and go straight to Perath and hide them there in a crack in the rock."

Jer.13.4

"Take the belt you bought and are wearing around your waist, and go now to Perath and hide it there in a crevice in the rocks."

Jer.13.4

"Take the sash that you acquired, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole in the rock."

Many days later the LORD said to me, "Go now to Perath and get the belt I told you to hide there."

Jer.13.6

A long time afterward, the LORD said to me, "Go back to the Euphrates and get the linen belt that I told you to hide there."

Jer.13.7

Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

Jer.13.7

So I went back to Perath and dug them out of the place where I had hidden them. The shorts by then had rotted and were worthless.

Jer.13.7

So I went to Perath and dug up the belt and took it from the place where I had hidden it, but now it was ruined and completely useless.

Jer.13.7

Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the sash from the place where I had hidden it; and there was the sash, ruined. It was profitable for nothing.

Jer.13.7

So I went to the Euphrates and dug it out of the hole where I had hidden it. But now it was mildewed and falling apart. The belt was useless.

Jer.13.8

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Jer.13.8

GOD explained,

Jer.13.8

Then the word of the LORD came to me:

Jer.13.8

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

Jer.13.8

Then I received this message from the LORD:

Jer.13.9

"This is the way I am going to ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem--

Jer.13.9

Jer.13.10

a wicked bunch of people who won't obey me, who do only what they want to do, who chase after all kinds of no-gods and worship them. They're going to turn out as rotten as these old shorts.

These wicked people, who refuse to listen to my words, who follow the stubbornness of their hearts and go after other gods to serve and worship them, will be like this belt-completely useless!

This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing.

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

Jer.13.11

Just as shorts clothe and protect, so I kept the whole family of Israel under my care"--GOD's Decree--"so that everyone could see they were my people, a people I could show off to the world and be proud of. But they refused to do a thing I said.

For as a belt is bound around a man's waist, so I bound the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to me,' declares the LORD, 'to be my people for my renown and praise and honor. But they have not listened.'

Jer.13.11

"So tell them, `The LORD, the God of Israel, says: All your wineskins will be full of wine.' And they will reply, `Of course, you don't need to tell us how prosperous we will be!'

Jer.13.13

Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

Jer.13.13

"Then you'll say, "This is what GOD says: Watch closely. I'm going to fill every person who lives in this country--the kings who rule from David's throne, the priests, the prophets, the citizens of Jerusalem--with wine that will make them drunk.

then tell them, 'This is what the LORD says: I am going to fill with drunkenness all who live in this land, including the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets and all those living in Jerusalem.

Jer.13.13

Then tell them, `No, this is what the LORD means: I will make everyone in this land so confused that they will seem drunk--from the king sitting on David's throne and from the priests and the prophets, right on down to the common people.

Jer.13.14

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

Jer.13.14

And then I'll smash them, smash the wine--filled jugs--old and young alike. Nothing will stop me. Not an ounce of pity or mercy or compassion will slow me down. Every last drunken jug of them will be smashed!'"

I will smash them one against the other, fathers and sons alike, declares the LORD. I will allow no pity or mercy or compassion to keep me from destroying them.'"
