Jer.1.1

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

Jer.1.1

The Message of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah of the family of priests who lived in Anathoth in the country of Benjamin.

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,

These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests from Anathoth, a town in the land of Benjamin.

Jer.1.2

To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

Jer.1.2

GOD's Message began to come to him during the thirteenth year that Josiah son of Amos reigned over Judah.

Jer.1.2

The word of the LORD came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah,

Jer.1.2

to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

Jer.1.2

The LORD first gave messages to Jeremiah during the thirteenth year of King Josiah's reign in Judah.

Jer.1.3

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

Jer.1.3

It continued to come to him during the time Jehoiakim son of Josiah reigned over Judah. And it continued to come to him clear down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of the reign of Zedekiah son of Josiah over Judah, the year that Jerusalem was taken into exile.

and through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

Jer.1.3

He continued to give messages throughout the reign of Josiah's son, King Jehoiakim, until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah's reign in Judah. In August of that year, the people of Jerusalem were taken away as captives.

Jer.1.4

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

The LORD gave me a message. He said,

Jer.1.5

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Jer.1.5

"Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations--that's what I had in mind for you."

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations."

Jer.1.5

"I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world."

Jer.1.6

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

Jer.1.6

But I said, "Hold it, Master GOD! Look at me. I don't know anything. I'm only a boy!"

Jer.1.6

"Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."

Jer.1.6

Then said I: "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth."

Jer.1.6

"O Sovereign LORD," I said, "I can't speak for you! I'm too young!"

Jer.1.7

But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

Jer.1.7

GOD told me, "Don't say, "I'm only a boy.' I'll tell you where to go and you'll go there. I'll tell you what to say and you'll say it.

Jer.1.7

But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.

Jer.1.7

But the LORD said to me: "Do not say, "I am a youth,' For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak.

Jer.1.7

"Don't say that," the LORD replied, "for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.

Jer.1.8

Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

Jer.1.8

Don't be afraid of a soul. I'll be right there, looking after you." GOD's Decree.

Jer.1.8

Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.

Jer.1.8

Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you," says the LORD.

Jer.1.8

And don't be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and take care of you. I, the LORD, have spoken!"

Jer.1.9

Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

GOD reached out, touched my mouth, and said, "Look! I've just put my words in your mouth--hand-delivered!

Jer.1.9

Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth.

Jer.1.9

Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

Jer.1.9

Then the LORD touched my mouth and said, "See, I have put my words in your mouth!

Jer.1.10

See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

Jer.1.10

See what I've done? I've given you a job to do among nations and governments--a red-letter day! Your job is to pull up and tear down, take apart and demolish, And then start over, building and planting."

Jer.1.10

See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."

Jer.1.10

See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant."

Jer.1.10

Today I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms. You are to uproot some and tear them down, to destroy and overthrow them. You are to build others up and plant them."

Jer.1.11

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

Jer.1.11

GOD's Message came to me: "What do you see, Jeremiah?" I said, "A walking stick--that's all."

Jer.1.11

The word of the LORD came to me: "What do you see, Jeremiah?I see the branch of an almond tree," I replied.

Jer.1.11

Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" And I said, "I see a branch of an almond tree."

Jer.1.11

Then the LORD said to me, "Look, Jeremiah! What do you see?" And I replied, "I see a branch from an almond tree."

Jer.1.12

Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

Jer.1.12

And GOD said, "Good eyes! I'm sticking with you. I'll make every word I give you come true."

Jer.1.12

The LORD said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled."

Jer.1.12

Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word."

Jer.1.12

And the LORD said, "That's right, and it means that I am watching, and I will surely carry out my threats of punishment."

Jer.1.13

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

Jer.1.13

GOD's Message came again: "So what do you see now?" I said, "I see a boiling pot, tipped down toward us."

Jer.1.13

The word of the LORD came to me again: "What do you see?I see a boiling pot, tilting away from the north," I answered.

Jer.1.13

And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a boiling pot, and it is facing away from the north."

Jer.1.13

Then the LORD spoke to me again and asked, "What do you see now?" And I replied, "I see a pot of boiling water, tipping from the north."

Jer.1.14

Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

Jer.1.14

Then GOD told me, "Disaster will pour out of the north on everyone living in this land.

Jer.1.14

The LORD said to me, "From the north disaster will be poured out on all who live in the land.

Jer.1.14

Then the LORD said to me: "Out of the north calamity shall break forth On all the inhabitants of the land.

Jer.1.14

"Yes," the LORD said, "for terror from the north will boil out on the people of this land.

Jer.1.15

For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

Jer.1.15

Watch for this: I'm calling all the kings out of the north." GOD's Decree. "They'll come and set up headquarters facing Jerusalem's gates, Facing all the city walls, facing all the villages of Judah.

Jer.1.15

I am about to summon all the peoples of the northern kingdoms," declares the LORD. "Their kings will come and set up their thrones in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem; they will come against all her surrounding walls and against all the towns of Judah.

Jer.1.15

For behold, I am calling All the families of the kingdoms of the north," says the LORD; "They shall come and each one set his throne At the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, Against all its walls all around, And against all the cities of Judah.

Jer.1.15

Listen! I am calling the armies of the kingdoms of the north to come to Jerusalem. They will set their thrones at the gates of the city. They will attack its walls and all the other towns of Judah.

Jer.1.16

And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

Jer.1.16

I'll pronounce my judgment on the people of Judah for walking out on me--what a terrible thing to do!- And courting other gods with their offerings, worshiping as gods sticks they'd carved, stones they'd painted.

Jer.1.16

I will pronounce my judgments on my people because of their wickedness in forsaking me, in burning incense to other gods and in worshiping what their hands have made.

Jer.1.16

I will utter My judgments Against them concerning all their wickedness, Because they have forsaken Me, Burned incense to other gods, And worshiped the works of their own hands.

Jer.1.16

I will pronounce judgment on my people for all their evil--for deserting me and worshiping other gods. Yes, they worship idols that they themselves have made!

Jer.1.17

Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

Jer.1.17

"But you--up on your feet and get dressed for work! Stand up and say your piece. Say exactly what I tell you to say. Don't pull your punches or I'll pull you out of the lineup.

Jer.1.17

"Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.

Jer.1.17

"Therefore prepare yourself and arise, And speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before their faces, Lest I dismay you before them.

Jer.1.17

"Get up and get dressed. Go out, and tell them whatever I tell you to say. Do not be afraid of them, or I will make you look foolish in front of them.

Jer.1.18

For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

Jer.1.18

"Stand at attention while I prepare you for your work. I'm making you as impregnable as a castle, Immovable as a steel post, solid as a concrete block wall. You're a one--man defense system against this culture, Against Judah's kings and princes, against the priests and local leaders.

Jer.1.18

Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land-against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land.

Jer.1.18

For behold, I have made you this day A fortified city and an iron pillar, And bronze walls against the whole land-- Against the kings of Judah, Against its princes, Against its priests, And against the people of the land.

Jer.1.18

For see, today I have made you immune to their attacks. You are strong like a fortified city that cannot be captured, like an iron pillar or a bronze wall. None of the kings, officials, priests, or people of Judah will be able to stand against you.

Jer.1.19

And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

Jer.1.19

They'll fight you, but they won't even scratch you. I'll back you up every inch of the way." GOD's Decree.

Jer.1.19

They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.

Jer.1.19

They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you," says the LORD, "to deliver you."

Jer.1.19

They will try, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the LORD, have spoken!"
