Isa.24.1

Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

Isa.24.1

Danger ahead! GOD's about to ravish the earth and leave it in ruins, Rip everything out by the roots and send everyone scurrying:

Isa.24.1

See, the LORD is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; he will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants-

Isa.24.1

Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty and makes it waste, Distorts its surface And scatters abroad its inhabitants.

Isa.24.1

Look! The LORD is about to destroy the earth and make it a vast wasteland. See how he is scattering the people over the face of the earth.

Isa.24.2

And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

Isa.24.2

priests and laypeople alike, owners and workers alike, celebrities and nobodies alike, buyers and sellers alike, bankers and beggars alike, the haves and have--nots alike.

Isa.24.2

it will be the same for priest as for people, for master as for servant, for mistress as for maid, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor.

Isa.24.2

And it shall be: As with the people, so with the priest; As with the servant, so with his master; As with the maid, so with her mistress; As with the buyer, so with the seller; As with the lender, so with the borrower; As with the creditor, so with the debtor.

Isa.24.2

Priests and laypeople, servants and masters, maids and mistresses, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, bankers and debtors--none will be spared.

Isa.24.3

The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.

Isa.24.3

The landscape will be a moonscape, totally wasted. And why? Because GOD says so. He's issued the orders.

Isa.24.3

The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The LORD has spoken this word.

Isa.24.3

The land shall be entirely emptied and utterly plundered, For the LORD has spoken this word.

Isa.24.3

The earth will be completely emptied and looted. The LORD has spoken!

Isa.24.4

The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

Isa.24.4

The earth turns gaunt and gray, the world silent and sad, sky and land lifeless, colorless.

Isa.24.4

The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the exalted of the earth languish.

Isa.24.4

The earth mourns and fades away, The world languishes and fades away; The haughty people of the earth languish.

Isa.24.4

The earth dries up, the crops wither, the skies refuse to rain.

Isa.24.5

The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

Isa.24.5

Earth is polluted by its very own people, who have broken its laws, Disrupted its order, violated the sacred and eternal covenant.

Isa.24.5

The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.

Isa.24.5

The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, Because they have transgressed the laws, Changed the ordinance, Broken the everlasting covenant.

Isa.24.5

The earth suffers for the sins of its people, for they have twisted the instructions of God, violated his laws, and broken his everlasting covenant.

Isa.24.6

Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

Isa.24.6

Therefore a curse, like a cancer, ravages the earth. Its people pay the price of their sacrilege. They dwindle away, dying out one by one.

Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth's inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.

Isa.24.6

Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, And those who dwell in it are desolate. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, And few men are left.

Isa.24.6

Therefore, a curse consumes the earth and its people. They are left desolate, destroyed by fire. Few will be left alive.

Isa.24.7

The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.

Isa.24.7

No more wine, no more vineyards, no more songs or singers.

Isa.24.7

The new wine dries up and the vine withers; all the merrymakers groan.

Isa.24.7

The new wine fails, the vine languishes, All the merry-hearted sigh.

Isa.24.7

All the joys of life will be gone. The grape harvest will fail, and there will be no wine. The merrymakers will sigh and mourn.

Isa.24.8

The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

Isa.24.8

The laughter of castanets is gone, the shouts of celebrants, gone, the laughter of fiddles, gone.

Isa.24.8

The gaiety of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped, the joyful harp is silent.

Isa.24.8

The mirth of the tambourine ceases, The noise of the jubilant ends, The joy of the harp ceases.

Isa.24.8

The clash of tambourines will be stilled; the happy cries of celebration will be heard no more. The melodious chords of the harp will be silent.

Isa.24.9

They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

Isa.24.9

No more parties with toasts of champagne. Serious drinkers gag on their drinks.

Isa.24.9

No longer do they drink wine with a song; the beer is bitter to its drinkers.

Isa.24.9

They shall not drink wine with a song; Strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.

Isa.24.9

Gone are the joys of wine and song; strong drink now turns bitter in the mouth.

Isa.24.10

The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

Isa.24.10

The chaotic cities are unlivable. Anarchy reigns. Every house is boarded up, condemned.

Isa.24.10

The ruined city lies desolate; the entrance to every house is barred.

Isa.24.10

The city of confusion is broken down; Every house is shut up, so that none may go in.

Isa.24.10

The city writhes in chaos; every home is locked to keep out looters.

Isa.24.11

There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

Isa.24.11

People riot in the streets for wine, but the good times are gone forever--no more joy for this old world.

Isa.24.11

In the streets they cry out for wine; all joy turns to gloom, all gaiety is banished from the earth.

Isa.24.11

There is a cry for wine in the streets, All joy is darkened, The mirth of the land is gone.

Isa.24.11

Mobs gather in the streets, crying out for wine. Joy has reached its lowest ebb. Gladness has been banished from the land.

Isa.24.12

In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

Isa.24.12

The city is dead and deserted, bulldozed into piles of rubble.

Isa.24.12

The city is left in ruins, its gate is battered to pieces.

Isa.24.12

In the city desolation is left, And the gate is stricken with destruction.

Isa.24.12

The city is left in ruins, with its gates battered down.

Isa.24.13

When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

Isa.24.13

That's the way it will be on this earth. This is the fate of all nations: An olive tree shaken clean of its olives, a grapevine picked clean of its grapes.

Isa.24.13

So will it be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.

Isa.24.13

When it shall be thus in the midst of the land among the people, It shall be like the shaking of an olive tree, Like the gleaning of grapes when the vintage is done.

Isa.24.13

Throughout the earth the story is the same--like the stray olives left on the tree or the few grapes left on the vine after harvest, only a remnant is left.

Isa.24.14

They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.

Isa.24.14

But there are some who will break into glad song. Out of the west they'll shout of GOD's majesty.

Isa.24.14

They raise their voices, they shout for joy; from the west they acclaim the LORD's majesty.

Isa.24.14

They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing; For the majesty of the LORD They shall cry aloud from the sea.

Isa.24.14

But all who are left will shout and sing for joy. Those in the west will praise the LORD's majesty.

Isa.24.15

Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.

Isa.24.15

Yes, from the east GOD's glory will ascend. Every island of the sea Will broadcast GOD's fame, the fame of the God of Israel.

Isa.24.15

Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD; exalt the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.

Isa.24.15

Therefore glorify the LORD in the dawning light, The name of the LORD God of Israel in the coastlands of the sea.

Isa.24.15

In eastern lands, give glory to the LORD. In the coastlands of the sea, praise the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

Isa.24.16

From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

Isa.24.16

From the four winds and the seven seas we hear the singing: "All praise to the Righteous One!" But I said, "That's all well and good for somebody, but all I can see is doom, doom, and more doom." All of them at one another's throats, yes, all of them at one another's throats.

Isa.24.16

From the ends of the earth we hear singing: "Glory to the Righteous One." But I said, "I waste away, I waste away! Woe to me! The treacherous betray! With treachery the treacherous betray!"

Isa.24.16

From the ends of the earth we have heard songs: "Glory to the righteous!" But I said, "I am ruined, ruined! Woe to me! The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously, Indeed, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously."

Isa.24.16

Listen to them as they sing to the LORD from the ends of the earth. Hear them singing praises to the Righteous One! But my heart is heavy with grief. I am discouraged, for evil still prevails, and treachery is everywhere.

Isa.24.17

Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

Isa.24.17

Terror and pits and booby traps are everywhere, whoever you are.

Isa.24.17

Terror and pit and snare await you, O people of the earth.

Isa.24.17

Fear and the pit and the snare Are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth.

Isa.24.17

Terror and traps and snares will be your lot, you people of the earth.

Isa.24.18

And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

Isa.24.18

If you run from the terror, you'll fall into the pit. If you climb out of the pit, you'll get caught in the trap. Chaos pours out of the skies. The foundations of earth are crumbling.

Isa.24.18

Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit; whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in a snare. The floodgates of the heavens are opened, the foundations of the earth shake.

Isa.24.18

And it shall be That he who flees from the noise of the fear Shall fall into the pit, And he who comes up from the midst of the pit Shall be caught in the snare; For the windows from on high are open, And the foundations of the earth are shaken.

Isa.24.18

Those who flee in terror will fall into a trap, and those who escape the trap will step into a snare. Destruction falls on you from the heavens. The world is shaken beneath you.

Isa.24.19

The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

Isa.24.19

Earth is smashed to pieces, earth is ripped to shreds, earth is wobbling out of control,

Isa.24.19

The earth is broken up, the earth is split asunder, the earth is thoroughly shaken.

Isa.24.19

The earth is violently broken, The earth is split open, The earth is shaken exceedingly.

Isa.24.19

The earth has broken down and has utterly collapsed. Everything is lost, abandoned, and confused.

Isa.24.20

The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

Isa.24.20

Earth staggers like a drunk, sways like a shack in a high wind. Its piled-up sins are too much for it. It collapses and won't get up again.

Isa.24.20

The earth reels like a drunkard, it sways like a hut in the wind; so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion that it falls-never to rise again.

Isa.24.20

The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again.

Isa.24.20

The earth staggers like a drunkard. It trembles like a tent in a storm. It falls and will not rise again, for its sins are very great.

Isa.24.21

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

Isa.24.21

That's when GOD will call on the carpet rebel powers in the skies and Rebel kings on earth.

Isa.24.21

In that day the LORD will punish the powers in the heavens above and the kings on the earth below.

It shall come to pass in that day That the LORD will punish on high the host of exalted ones, And on the earth the kings of the earth.

Isa.24.21

In that day the LORD will punish the fallen angels in the heavens and the proud rulers of the nations on earth.

Isa.24.22

And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

Isa.24.22

They'll be rounded up like prisoners in a jail, Corralled and locked up in a jail, and then sentenced and put to hard labor.

Isa.24.22

They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison and be punished after many days.

Isa.24.22

They will be gathered together, As prisoners are gathered in the pit, And will be shut up in the prison; After many days they will be punished.

Isa.24.22

They will be rounded up and put in prison until they are tried and condemned.

Isa.24.23

Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

Isa.24.23

Shamefaced moon will cower, humiliated, red-faced sun will skulk, disgraced, Because GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies will take over, ruling from Mount Zion and Jerusalem, Splendid and glorious before all his leaders.

Isa.24.23

The moon will be abashed, the sun ashamed; for the LORD Almighty will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before its elders, gloriously.

Isa.24.23

Then the moon will be disgraced And the sun ashamed; For the LORD of hosts will reign On Mount Zion and in Jerusalem And before His elders, gloriously.

Isa.24.23

Then the LORD Almighty will mount his throne on Mount Zion. He will rule gloriously in Jerusalem, in the sight of all the leaders of his people. There will be such glory that the brightness of the sun and moon will seem to fade away.
