Isa.19.1

The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

Isa.19.1

A Message concerning Egypt: Watch this! GOD riding on a fast-moving cloud, moving in on Egypt! The god-idols of Egypt shudder and shake, Egyptians paralyzed by panic.

Isa.19.1

An oracle concerning Egypt: See, the LORD rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before him, and the hearts of the Egyptians melt within them.

Isa.19.1

The burden against Egypt. Behold, the LORD rides on a swift cloud, And will come into Egypt; The idols of Egypt will totter at His presence, And the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst.

Isa.19.1

This message came to me concerning Egypt: Look! The LORD is advancing against Egypt, riding on a swift cloud. The idols of Egypt tremble. The hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear.

Isa.19.2

And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

Isa.19.2

God says, "I'll make Egyptian fight Egyptian, brother fight brother, neighbor fight neighbor, City fight city, kingdom fight kingdom--anarchy and chaos and killing!

Isa.19.2

"I will stir up Egyptian against Egyptian- brother will fight against brother, neighbor against neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.

Isa.19.2

"I will set Egyptians against Egyptians; Everyone will fight against his brother, And everyone against his neighbor, City against city, kingdom against kingdom.

Isa.19.2

"I will make the Egyptians fight against each other--brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor, city against city, province against province.

Isa.19.3

And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.

Isa.19.3

I'll knock the wind out of the Egyptians. They won't know coming from going. They'll go to their god-idols for answers; they'll conjure ghosts and hold s�ances, desperate for answers.

Isa.19.3

The Egyptians will lose heart, and I will bring their plans to nothing; they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, the mediums and the spiritists.

Isa.19.3

The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst; I will destroy their counsel, And they will consult the idols and the charmers, The mediums and the sorcerers.

Isa.19.3

The Egyptians will lose heart, and I will confuse their plans. They will plead with their idols for wisdom. They will call on spirits, mediums, and psychics to show them which way to turn.

Isa.19.4

And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.

Isa.19.4

But I'll turn the Egyptians over to a tyrant most cruel. I'll put them under the rule of a mean, merciless king." Decree of the Master, GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies.

Isa.19.4

I will hand the Egyptians over to the power of a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

Isa.19.4

And the Egyptians I will give Into the hand of a cruel master, And a fierce king will rule over them," Says the Lord, the LORD of hosts.

Isa.19.4

I will hand Egypt over to a hard, cruel master, to a fierce king," says the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

Isa.19.5

And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.

Isa.19.5

The River Nile will dry up, the riverbed baked dry in the sun.

Isa.19.5

The waters of the river will dry up, and the riverbed will be parched and dry.

Isa.19.5

The waters will fail from the sea, And the river will be wasted and dried up.

Isa.19.5

The waters of the Nile will fail to rise and flood the fields. The riverbed will be parched and dry.

Isa.19.6

And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.

The canals will become stagnant and stink, every stream touching the Nile dry up. River vegetation will rot away

Isa.19.6

The canals will stink; the streams of Egypt will dwindle and dry up. The reeds and rushes will wither,

Isa.19.6

The rivers will turn foul; The brooks of defense will be emptied and dried up; The reeds and rushes will wither.

Isa.19.6

The canals of the Nile will dry up, and the streams of Egypt will become foul with rotting reeds and rushes.

Isa.19.7

The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more.

the banks of the Nile--baked clay, The riverbed hard and smooth, river grasses dried up and gone with the wind.

Isa.19.7

also the plants along the Nile, at the mouth of the river. Every sown field along the Nile will become parched, will blow away and be no more.

Isa.19.7

The papyrus reeds by the River, by the mouth of the River, And everything sown by the River, Will wither, be driven away, and be no more.

Isa.19.7

All the greenery along the riverbank will wither and blow away. All the crops will dry up, and everything will die.

Isa.19.8

The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish.

Isa.19.8

Fishermen will complain that the fishing's been ruined.

Isa.19.8

The fishermen will groan and lament, all who cast hooks into the Nile; those who throw nets on the water will pine away.

Isa.19.8

The fishermen also will mourn; All those will lament who cast hooks into the River, And they will languish who spread nets on the waters.

Isa.19.8

The fishermen will weep for lack of work. Those who fish with hooks and those who use nets will all be unemployed.

Isa.19.9

Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks, shall be confounded.

Isa.19.9

Textile workers will be out of work, all weavers and workers in linen and cotton and wool

Isa.19.9

Those who work with combed flax will despair, the weavers of fine linen will lose hope.

Isa.19.9

Moreover those who work in fine flax And those who weave fine fabric will be ashamed;

Isa.19.9

The weavers will have no flax or cotton, for the crops will fail.

Isa.19.10

And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices and ponds for fish.

Isa.19.10

Dispirited, depressed in their forced idleness--everyone who works for a living, jobless.

Isa.19.10

The workers in cloth will be dejected, and all the wage earners will be sick at heart.

Isa.19.10

And its foundations will be broken. All who make wages will be troubled of soul.

Isa.19.10

The weavers and all the workers will be sick at heart.

Isa.19.11

Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?

Isa.19.11

The princes of Zoan are fools, the advisors of Pharaoh stupid. How could any of you dare tell Pharaoh, "Trust me: I'm wise. I know what's going on. Why, I'm descended from the old wisdom of Egypt"?

Isa.19.11

The officials of Zoan are nothing but fools; the wise counselors of Pharaoh give senseless advice. How can you say to Pharaoh, "I am one of the wise men, a disciple of the ancient kings"?

Isa.19.11

Surely the princes of Zoan are fools; Pharaoh's wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh, "I am the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?"

Isa.19.11

What fools are the counselors of Zoan! Their best counsel to the king of Egypt is stupid and wrong. Will they still boast of their wisdom? Will they dare tell Pharaoh about their long line of wise ancestors?

Isa.19.12

Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.

Isa.19.12

There's not a wise man or woman left in the country. If there were, one of them would tell you what GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies has in mind for Egypt.

Isa.19.12

Where are your wise men now? Let them show you and make known what the LORD Almighty has planned against Egypt.

Isa.19.12

Where are they? Where are your wise men? Let them tell you now, And let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed against Egypt.

Isa.19.12

What has happened to your wise counselors, Pharaoh? If they are so wise, let them tell you what the LORD Almighty is going to do to Egypt.

Isa.19.13

The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof.

Isa.19.13

As it is, the princes of Zoan are all fools and the princes of Memphis, dunces. The honored pillars of your society have led Egypt into detours and dead ends.

Isa.19.13

The officials of Zoan have become fools, the leaders of Memphis are deceived; the cornerstones of her peoples have led Egypt astray.

Isa.19.13

The princes of Zoan have become fools; The princes of Noph are deceived; They have also deluded Egypt, Those who are the mainstay of its tribes.

Isa.19.13

The wise men from Zoan are fools, and those from Memphis are deluded. The leaders of Egypt have ruined the land with their foolish counsel.

Isa.19.14

The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.

Isa.19.14

GOD has scrambled their brains, Egypt's become a falling-down--in-his--own-vomit drunk.

Isa.19.14

The LORD has poured into them a spirit of dizziness; they make Egypt stagger in all that she does, as a drunkard staggers around in his vomit.

Isa.19.14

The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in her midst; And they have caused Egypt to err in all her work, As a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

Isa.19.14

The LORD has sent a spirit of foolishness on them, so all their suggestions are wrong. They cause the land of Egypt to stagger like a sick drunkard.

Isa.19.15

Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do.

Isa.19.15

Egypt's hopeless, past helping, a senile, doddering old fool. [JC]

Isa.19.15

There is nothing Egypt can do- head or tail, palm branch or reed.

Isa.19.15

Neither will there be any work for Egypt, Which the head or tail, Palm branch or bulrush, may do.

Isa.19.15

Nobody in Egypt, whether rich or poor, important or unknown, can offer any help.

Isa.19.16

In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.

Isa.19.16

On that Day, Egyptians will be like hysterical schoolgirls, screaming at the first hint of action from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies.

Isa.19.16

In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will shudder with fear at the uplifted hand that the LORD Almighty raises against them.

Isa.19.16

In that day Egypt will be like women, and will be afraid and fear because of the waving of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which He waves over it.

Isa.19.16

In that day the Egyptians will be as weak as women. They will cower in fear beneath the upraised fist of the LORD Almighty.

Isa.19.17

And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it.

Isa.19.17

Little Judah will strike terror in Egyptians! Say "Judah" to an Egyptian and see panic. The word triggers fear of the GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies' plan against Egypt.

Isa.19.17

And the land of Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians; everyone to whom Judah is mentioned will be terrified, because of what the LORD Almighty is planning against them.

Isa.19.17

And the land of Judah will be a terror to Egypt; everyone who makes mention of it will be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts which He has determined against it.

Isa.19.17

Just to speak the name of Israel will strike deep terror in their hearts, for the LORD Almighty has laid out his plans against them.

Isa.19.18

In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.

Isa.19.18

On that Day, more than one city in Egypt will learn to speak the language of faith and promise to follow GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies. One of these cities will be honored with the title "City of the Sun."

Isa.19.18

In that day five cities in Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the LORD Almighty. One of them will be called the City of Destruction.

In that day five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear by the LORD of hosts; one will be called the City of Destruction.

Isa.19.18

In that day five of Egypt's cities will follow the LORD Almighty. They will even begin to speak the Hebrew language. One of these will be Heliopolis, the City of the Sun.

Isa.19.19

In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD.

On that Day, there will be a place of worship to GOD in the center of Egypt and a monument to GOD at its border.

In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the LORD at its border.

In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border.

In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the heart of Egypt, and there will be a monument to the LORD at its border.

Isa.19.20

And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them.

Isa.19.20

It will show how the GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies has helped the Egyptians. When they cry out in prayer to GOD because of oppressors, he'll send them help, a savior who will keep them safe and take care of them.

Isa.19.20

It will be a sign and witness to the LORD Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them.

Isa.19.20

And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the LORD because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them.

Isa.19.20

It will be a sign and a witness to the LORD Almighty in the land of Egypt. When the people cry to the LORD for help against those who oppress them, he will send them a savior who will rescue them.

Isa.19.21

And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it.

Isa.19.21

GOD will openly show himself to the Egyptians and they'll get to know him on that Day. They'll worship him seriously with sacrifices and burnt offerings. They'll make vows and keep them.

Isa.19.21

So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and keep them.

Isa.19.21

Then the LORD will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day, and will make sacrifice and offering; yes, they will make a vow to the LORD and perform it.

Isa.19.21

In that day the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians. Yes, they will know the LORD and will give their sacrifices and offerings to him. They will make promises to the LORD and keep them.

Isa.19.22

And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal it: and they shall return even to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them.

Isa.19.22

GOD will wound Egypt, first hit and then heal. Egypt will come back to GOD, and GOD will listen to their prayers and heal them, heal them from head to toe.

The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.

Isa.19.22

And the LORD will strike Egypt, He will strike and heal it; they will return to the LORD, and He will be entreated by them and heal them.

Isa.19.22

The LORD will strike Egypt in a way that will bring healing. For the Egyptians will turn to the LORD, and he will listen to their pleas and heal them.

Isa.19.23

In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.

Isa.19.23

On that Day, there will be a highway all the way from Egypt to Assyria: Assyrians will have free range in Egypt and Egyptians in Assyria. No longer rivals, they'll worship together, Egyptians and Assyrians!

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together.

Isa.19.23

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians.

Isa.19.23

In that day Egypt and Assyria will be connected by a highway. The Egyptians and Assyrians will move freely between their lands, and they will worship the same God.

Isa.19.24

In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land:

On that Day, Israel will take its place alongside Egypt and Assyria, sharing the blessing from the center.

Isa.19.24

In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth.

Isa.19.24

In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria--a blessing in the midst of the land,

Isa.19.24

And Israel will be their ally. The three will be together, and Israel will be a blessing to them.

Isa.19.25

Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.

Isa.19.25

GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies, who blessed Israel, will generously bless them all: "Blessed be Egypt, my people!... Blessed be Assyria, work of my hands!... Blessed be Israel, my heritage!"

Isa.19.25

The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance."

Isa.19.25

whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, "Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance."

Isa.19.25

For the LORD Almighty will say, "Blessed be Egypt, my people. Blessed be Assyria, the land I have made. Blessed be Israel, my special possession!"
