Exod.23.1

Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

Exod.23.1

"Don't pass on malicious gossip. "Don't link up with a wicked person and give corrupt testimony.

Exod.23.1

"Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.

Exod.23.1

"You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

Exod.23.1

"Do not pass along false reports. Do not cooperate with evil people by telling lies on the witness stand.

Exod.23.2

Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:

Exod.23.2

Don't go along with the crowd in doing evil and don't fudge your testimony in a case just to please the crowd.

Exod.23.2

"Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

Exod.23.2

You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice.

Exod.23.2

"Do not join a crowd that intends to do evil. When you are on the witness stand, do not be swayed in your testimony by the opinion of the majority.

Exod.23.3

Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

Exod.23.3

And just because someone is poor, don't show favoritism in a dispute.

Exod.23.3

and do not show favoritism to a poor man in his lawsuit.

Exod.23.3

You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute.

Exod.23.3

And do not slant your testimony in favor of a person just because that person is poor.

Exod.23.4

If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.

"If you find your enemy's ox or donkey loose, take it back to him.

Exod.23.4

"If you come across your enemy's ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.

Exod.23.4

"If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again.

Exod.23.4

"If you come upon your enemy's ox or donkey that has strayed away, take it back to its owner.

Exod.23.5

If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

If you see the donkey of someone who hates you lying helpless under its load, don't walk off and leave it. Help it up.

Exod.23.5

If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.

Exod.23.5

If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it.

Exod.23.5

If you see the donkey of someone who hates you struggling beneath a heavy load, do not walk by. Instead, stop and offer to help.

Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.

Exod.23.6

"When there is a dispute concerning your poor, don't tamper with the justice due them.

Exod.23.6

"Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.

Exod.23.6

"You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his dispute.

Exod.23.6

"Do not twist justice against people simply because they are poor.

Exod.23.7

Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.

Exod.23.7

"Stay clear of false accusations. Don't contribute to the death of innocent and good people. I don't let the wicked off the hook.

Exod.23.7

Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.

Exod.23.7

Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked.

Exod.23.7

"Keep far away from falsely charging anyone with evil. Never put an innocent or honest person to death. I will not allow anyone guilty of this to go free.

Exod.23.8

And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.

Exod.23.8

"Don't take bribes. Bribes blind perfectly good eyes and twist the speech of good people.

Exod.23.8

"Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.

Exod.23.8

And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous.

Exod.23.8

"Take no bribes, for a bribe makes you ignore something that you clearly see. A bribe always hurts the cause of the person who is in the right.

Exod.23.9

Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Exod.23.9

"Don't take advantage of a stranger. You know what it's like to be a stranger; you were strangers in Egypt.

Exod.23.9

"Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt.

Exod.23.9

"Also you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Exod.23.9

"Do not oppress the foreigners living among you. You know what it is like to be a foreigner. Remember your own experience in the land of Egypt.

Exod.23.10

And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof:

Exod.23.10

"Sow your land for six years and gather in its crops,

Exod.23.10

"For six years you are to sow your fields and harvest the crops,

Exod.23.10

"Six years you shall sow your land and gather in its produce,

Exod.23.10

"Plant and harvest your crops for six years,

Exod.23.11

But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.

Exod.23.11

but in the seventh year leave it alone and give it a rest so that your poor may eat from it. What they leave, let the wildlife have. Do the same with your vineyards and olive groves.

Exod.23.11

but during the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused. Then the poor among your people may get food from it, and the wild animals may eat what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.

but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave, the beasts of the field may eat. In like manner you shall do with your vineyard and your olive grove.

but let the land rest and lie fallow during the seventh year. Then let the poor among you harvest any volunteer crop that may come up. Leave the rest for the animals to eat. The same applies to your vineyards and olive groves.

Exod.23.12

Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.

Exod.23.12

"Work for six days and rest the seventh so your ox and donkey may rest and your servant and migrant workers may have time to get their needed rest.

Exod.23.12

"Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed.

Exod.23.12

Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.

Exod.23.12

"Work for six days, and rest on the seventh. This will give your ox and your donkey a chance to rest. It will also allow the people of your household, including your slaves and visitors, to be refreshed.

Exod.23.13

And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

Exod.23.13

"Listen carefully to everything I tell you. Don't pay attention to other gods--don't so much as mention their names. [JC]

"Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips.

Exod.23.13

"And in all that I have said to you, be circumspect and make no mention of the name of other gods, nor let it be heard from your mouth.

"Be sure to obey all my instructions. And remember, never pray to or swear by any other gods. Do not even mention their names.

Exod.23.14

Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year.

Exod.23.14

"Three times a year you are to hold a festival for me.

Exod.23.14

"Three times a year you are to celebrate a festival to me.

Exod.23.14

"Three times you shall keep a feast to Me in the year:

Exod.23.14

"Each year you must celebrate three festivals in my honor.

Exod.23.15

Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)

Exod.23.15

"Hold the spring Festival of Unraised Bread when you eat unraised bread for seven days at the time set for the month of Abib, as I commanded you. That was the month you came out of Egypt. No one should show up before me empty-handed.

Exod.23.15

"Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt. "No one is to appear before me empty-handed.

Exod.23.15

You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread (you shall eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt; none shall appear before Me empty);

Exod.23.15

The first is the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast, just as I commanded you before. This festival will be an annual event at the appointed time in early spring, for that is the anniversary of your exodus from Egypt. Everyone must bring me a sacrifice at that time.

Exod.23.16

And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.

"Hold the summer Festival of Harvest when you bring in the firstfruits of all your work in the fields. "Hold the autumn Festival of Ingathering at the end of the season when you bring in the year's crops.

Exod.23.16

"Celebrate the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field. "Celebrate the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in your crops from the field.

Exod.23.16

and the Feast of Harvest, the firstfruits of your labors which you have sown in the field; and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you have gathered in the fruit of your labors from the field.

Exod.23.16

You must also celebrate the Festival of Harvest, when you bring me the first crops of your harvest. Finally, you are to celebrate the Festival of the Final Harvest at the end of the harvest season.

Exod.23.17

Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord GOD.

Exod.23.17

"Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Master, GOD.

Exod.23.17

"Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD.

Exod.23.17

"Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord GOD.

Exod.23.17

At these three times each year, every man in Israel must appear before the Sovereign LORD.

Exod.23.18

Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.

Exod.23.18

"Don't offer the blood of a sacrifice to me with anything that has yeast in it. "Don't leave the fat from my festival offering out overnight.

Exod.23.18

"Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast. "The fat of my festival offerings must not be kept until morning.

Exod.23.18

"You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread; nor shall the fat of My sacrifice remain until morning.

Exod.23.18

"Sacrificial blood must never be offered together with bread that has yeast in it. And no sacrificial fat may be left unoffered until the next morning.

Exod.23.19

The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

"Bring the choice first produce of the year to the house of your GOD. "Don't boil a kid in its mother's milk. [JC]

"Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. "Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.

Exod.23.19

The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.

Exod.23.19

"As you harvest each of your crops, bring me a choice sample of the first day's harvest. It must be offered to the LORD your God. "You must not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.

Exod.23.20

Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

Exod.23.20

"Now get yourselves ready. I'm sending my Angel ahead of you to guard you in your travels, to lead you to the place that I've prepared.

"See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

"Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.

"See, I am sending my angel before you to lead you safely to the land I have prepared for you.

Exod.23.21

Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

Exod.23.21

Pay close attention to him. Obey him. Don't go against him. He won't put up with your rebellions because he's acting on my authority.

Exod.23.21

Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him.

Beware of Him and obey His voice; do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name is in Him.

Pay attention to him, and obey all of his instructions. Do not rebel against him, for he will not forgive your sins. He is my representative--he bears my name.

But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.

Exod.23.22

But if you obey him and do everything I tell you, I'll be an enemy to your enemies, I'll fight those who fight you.

If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.

Exod.23.22

But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

Exod.23.22

But if you are careful to obey him, following all my instructions, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will oppose those who oppose you.

For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.

Exod.23.23

When my Angel goes ahead of you and leads you to the land of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, I'll clear the country of them.

My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.

For My Angel will go before you and bring you in to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off.

For my angel will go before you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, so you may live there. And I will destroy them.

Exod.23.24

Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

Exod.23.24

So don't worship or serve their gods; don't do anything they do because I'm going to wipe them right off the face of the Earth and smash their sacred phallic pillars to bits.

Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them and completely break down their sacred pillars.

Do not worship the gods of these other nations or serve them in any way, and never follow their evil example. Instead, you must utterly conquer them and break down their shameful idols.

And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

"But you--you serve your GOD and he'll bless your food and your water. I'll get rid of the sickness among you;

Exod.23.25

Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,

Exod.23.25

"So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.

Exod.23.25

"You must serve only the LORD your God. If you do, I will bless you with food and water, and I will keep you healthy.

Exod.23.26

There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.

Exod.23.26

there won't be any miscarriages nor barren women in your land. I'll make sure you live full and complete lives.

Exod.23.26

and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.

Exod.23.26

No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

There will be no miscarriages or infertility among your people, and I will give you long, full lives.

Exod.23.27

I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.

"I'll send my Terror on ahead of you and throw those peoples you're approaching into a panic. All you'll see of your enemies is the backs of their necks.

"I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run.

"I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.

"I will send my terror upon all the people whose lands you invade, and they will panic before you.

Exod.23.28

And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.

"And I'll send Despair on ahead of you. It will push the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites out of your way.

I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way.

And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.

I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.

And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee.

I will make your borders stretch from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea and from the Wilderness to the Euphrates River. I'm turning everyone living in that land over to you; go ahead and drive them out.

"I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the River. I will hand over to you the people who live in the land and you will drive them out before you.

And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

And I will fix your boundaries from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the southern deserts to the Euphrates River. I will help you defeat the people now living in the land, and you will drive them out ahead of you.

"Make no treaties with them and have nothing to do with their gods.

They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.

They are not to stay in the same country with you lest they get you to sin by worshiping their gods. Beware. That's a huge danger." [JC]

Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you."

They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you."

Do not even let them live among you! If you do, they will infect you with their sin of idol worship, and that would be disastrous for you."
