Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

They jeer, using words to kill; they bully their way with words.

What's going on here? Is God out to lunch? Nobody's tending the store.

They say, "How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?"

And they say, "How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?"

"Does God realize what is going on?" they ask. "Is the Most High even aware of what is happening?"

Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

The wicked get by with everything; they have it made, piling up riches

This is what the wicked are like- always carefree, they increase in wealth.

Behold, these are the ungodly, Who are always at ease; They increase in riches.

Look at these arrogant people--enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply.

Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

I've been stupid to play by the rules; what has it gotten me?

So I tried to understand why the wicked prosper. But what a difficult task it is!

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
