Ps.48.1

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

GOD majestic, praise abounds in our God--city! His sacred mountain,

Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

breathtaking in its heights--earth's joy. Zion Mountain looms in the North, city of the world-King.

It is beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth. Like the utmost heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King.

Beautiful in elevation, The joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, The city of the great King.

It is magnificent in elevation--the whole earth rejoices to see it! Mount Zion, the holy mountain, is the city of the great King!

Ps.48.3

God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

Ps.48.3

God in his citadel peaks impregnable.

Ps.48.3

God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.

Ps.48.3

God is in her palaces; He is known as her refuge.

God himself is in Jerusalem's towers. He reveals himself as her defender.

For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.

The kings got together, they united and came.

When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together,

For behold, the kings assembled, They passed by together.

The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city.

They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.

They took one look and shook their heads, they scattered and ran away.

But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away.

Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

They doubled up in pain like a woman having a baby.

Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor.

Fear took hold of them there, And pain, as of a woman in birth pangs,

They were gripped with terror, like a woman writhing in the pain of childbirth

Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

Ps.48.7

You smashed the ships of Tarshish with a storm out of the East.

Ps.48.7

You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.

Ps.48.7

As when You break the ships of Tarshish With an east wind.

Ps.48.7

or like the mighty ships of Tarshish being shattered by a powerful east wind.

Ps.48.8

As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.

We heard about it, then we saw it with our eyes--In GOD's city of angel armies, in the city our God Set on firm foundations, firm forever.

As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. Selah

As we have heard, So we have seen In the city of the LORD of hosts, In the city of our God: God will establish it forever.Selah

Ps.48.8

We had heard of the city's glory, but now we have seen it ourselves--the city of the LORD Almighty. It is the city of our God; he will make it safe forever.

Ps.48.9

We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

Ps.48.9

We pondered your love--in-action, God, waiting in your temple:

Ps.48.9

Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.

Ps.48.9

We have thought, O God, on Your lovingkindness, In the midst of Your temple.

Ps.48.9

O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple.

Ps.48.10

According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

Your name, God, evokes a train of Hallelujahs wherever It is spoken, near and far; your arms are heaped with goodness-in-action.

Ps.48.10

Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.

According to Your name, O God, So is Your praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness.

Ps.48.10

As your name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth. Your strong right hand is filled with victory.

Ps.48.11

Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

Ps.48.11

Be glad, Zion Mountain; Dance, Judah's daughters! He does what he said he'd do!

Ps.48.11

Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments.

Ps.48.11

Let Mount Zion rejoice, Let the daughters of Judah be glad, Because of Your judgments.

Ps.48.11

Let the people on Mount Zion rejoice. Let the towns of Judah be glad, for your judgments are just.

Ps.48.12

Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.

Ps.48.12

Circle Zion, take her measure, count her fortress peaks,

Ps.48.12

Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers,

Ps.48.12

Walk about Zion, And go all around her. Count her towers;

Ps.48.12

Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem. Walk around and count the many towers.

Ps.48.13

Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.

Ps.48.13

Gaze long at her sloping bulwark, climb her citadel heights--Then you can tell the next generation detail by detail the story of God,

Ps.48.13

consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.

Ps.48.13

Mark well her bulwarks; Consider her palaces; That you may tell it to the generation following.

Ps.48.13

Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations.

Ps.48.14

For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
