Ps.40.1

I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

Ps.40.1

I waited and waited and waited for GOD. At last he looked; finally he listened.

Ps.40.1

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.

Ps.40.1

I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.

I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.

Ps.40.2

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

Ps.40.2

He lifted me out of the ditch, pulled me from deep mud. He stood me up on a solid rock to make sure I wouldn't slip.

Ps.40.2

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

Ps.40.2

He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.

Ps.40.2

He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Ps.40.3

He taught me how to sing the latest God--song, a praise--song to our God. More and more people are seeing this: they enter the mystery, abandoning themselves to GOD.

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.

Ps.40.3

He has put a new song in my mouth-- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD.

Ps.40.3

He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be astounded. They will put their trust in the LORD.

Ps.40.4

Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Ps.40.4

Blessed are you who give yourselves over to GOD, turn your backs on the world's "sure thing," ignore what the world worships;

Ps.40.4

Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.

Ps.40.4

Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Ps.40.4

Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, who have no confidence in the proud, or in those who worship idols.

Ps.40.5

Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Ps.40.5

The world's a huge stockpile of GOD-wonders and God--thoughts. Nothing and no one comes close to you! I start talking about you, telling what I know, and quickly run out of words. Neither numbers nor words account for you.

Ps.40.5

Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.

Ps.40.5

Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.

Ps.40.5

O LORD my God, you have done many miracles for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.

Ps.40.6

Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

Ps.40.6

Doing something for you, bringing something to you--that's not what you're after. Being religious, acting pious--that's not what you're asking for. You've opened my ears so I can listen.

Ps.40.6

Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced,; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.

Ps.40.6

Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

Ps.40.6

You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand--you don't require burnt offerings or sin offerings.

Ps.40.7

Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

Ps.40.7

So I answered, "I'm coming. I read in your letter what you wrote about me,

Ps.40.7

Then I said, "Here I am, I have come- it is written about me in the scroll.

Ps.40.7

Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me.

Ps.40.7

Then I said, "Look, I have come. And this has been written about me in your scroll:

Ps.40.8

I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Ps.40.8

And I'm coming to the party you're throwing for me." That's when God's Word entered my life, became part of my very being.

Ps.40.8

I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."

Ps.40.8

I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart."

Ps.40.8

I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your law is written on my heart."

Ps.40.9

I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.

Ps.40.9

I've preached you to the whole congregation, I've kept back nothing, GOD-you know that.

Ps.40.9

I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, as you know, O LORD.

Ps.40.9

I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know.

Ps.40.9

I have told all your people about your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out, as you, O LORD, well know.

Ps.40.10

I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

Ps.40.10

I didn't keep the news of your ways a secret, didn't keep it to myself. I told it all, how dependable you are, how thorough. I didn't hold back pieces of love and truth For myself alone. I told it all, let the congregation know the whole story.

Ps.40.10

I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.

Ps.40.10

I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly.

Ps.40.10

I have not kept this good news hidden in my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone in the great assembly of your unfailing love and faithfulness.

Ps.40.11

Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

Ps.40.11

Now GOD, don't hold out on me, don't hold back your passion. Your love and truth are all that keeps me together.

Ps.40.11

Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always protect me.

Ps.40.11

Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.

Ps.40.11

LORD, don't hold back your tender mercies from me. My only hope is in your unfailing love and faithfulness.

Ps.40.12

For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.

Ps.40.12

When troubles ganged up on me, a mob of sins past counting, I was so swamped by guilt I couldn't see my way clear. More guilt in my heart than hair on my head, so heavy the guilt that my heart gave out.

Ps.40.12

For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me.

Ps.40.12

For innumerable evils have surrounded me; My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; Therefore my heart fails me.

Ps.40.12

For troubles surround me--too many to count! They pile up so high I can't see my way out. They are more numerous than the hairs on my head. I have lost all my courage.

Ps.40.13

Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.

Ps.40.13

Soften up, GOD, and intervene; hurry and get me some help,

Ps.40.13

Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me.

Ps.40.13

Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me!

Ps.40.13

Please, LORD, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me.

Ps.40.14

Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

Ps.40.14

So those who are trying to kidnap my soul will be embarrassed and lose face, So anyone who gets a kick out of making me miserable will be heckled and disgraced,

Ps.40.14

May all who seek to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.

Ps.40.14

Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion Who seek to destroy my life; Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor Who wish me evil.

Ps.40.14

May those who try to destroy me be humiliated and put to shame. May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace.

Ps.40.15

Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.

Ps.40.15

So those who pray for my ruin will be booed and jeered without mercy.

Ps.40.15

May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be appalled at their own shame.

Ps.40.15

Let them be confounded because of their shame, Who say to me, "Aha, aha!"

Ps.40.15

Let them be horrified by their shame, for they said, "Aha! We've got him now!"

Ps.40.16

Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.

Ps.40.16

But all who are hunting for you--oh, let them sing and be happy. Let those who know what you're all about tell the world you're great and not quitting.

Ps.40.16

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "The LORD be exalted!"

Ps.40.16

Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let such as love Your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!"

Ps.40.16

But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, "The LORD is great!"

Ps.40.17

But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

Ps.40.17

And me? I'm a mess. I'm nothing and have nothing: make something of me. You can do it; you've got what it takes--but God, don't put it off.

Ps.40.17

Yet I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay.

Ps.40.17

But I am poor and needy; Yet the LORD thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.

Ps.40.17

As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord is thinking about me right now. You are my helper and my savior. Do not delay, O my God.
