Ps.38.1

O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

Take a deep breath, GOD; calm down--don't be so hasty with your punishing rod.

For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

Your sharp-pointed arrows of rebuke draw blood; my backside smarts from your caning.

For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me.

Your arrows have struck deep, and your blows are crushing me.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

I've lost twenty pounds in two months because of your accusation. My bones are brittle as dry sticks because of my sin.

Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin.

For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance.

They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

My competitors blacken my name, devoutly they pray for my ruin.

Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception.

Those also who seek my life lay snares for me; Those who seek my hurt speak of destruction, And plan deception all the day long.

Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps for me; they make plans to ruin me. They think up treacherous deeds all day long.

But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

But I'm deaf and mute to it all, ears shut, mouth shut.

I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth;

But I, like a deaf man, do not hear; And I am like a mute who does not open his mouth.

But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak.

Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

I don't hear a word they say, don't speak a word in response.

I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.

Thus I am like a man who does not hear, And in whose mouth is no response.

I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply.

For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

What I do, GOD, is wait for you, wait for my Lord, my God--you will answer!

For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

I wait and pray so they won't laugh me off, won't smugly strut off when I stumble.

For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."

For I said, "Hear me, lest they rejoice over me, Lest, when my foot slips, they exalt themselves against me."

I prayed, "Don't let my enemies gloat over me or rejoice at my downfall."

For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

I'm on the edge of losing it--the pain in my gut keeps burning.

But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous.

They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

I give out good and get back evil from God--haters who can't stand a God--lover.

Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good.

Those also who render evil for good, They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good.

They repay me evil for good and oppose me because I stand for the right.

Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.
