Ps.137.1

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

Alongside Babylon's rivers we sat on the banks; we cried and cried, remembering the good old days in Zion.

By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept When we remembered Zion.

Beside the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem.

We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

Alongside the quaking aspens we stacked our unplayed harps;

There on the poplars we hung our harps,

Ps.137.2

We hung our harps Upon the willows in the midst of it.

Ps.137.2

We put away our lyres, hanging them on the branches of the willow trees.

Ps.137.3

For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

Ps.137.3

That's where our captors demanded songs, sarcastic and mocking: "Sing us a happy Zion song!"

for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

Ps.137.3

For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, And those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

For there our captors demanded a song of us. Our tormentors requested a joyful hymn: "Sing us one of those songs of Jerusalem!"

Ps.137.4

How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?

Ps.137.4

Oh, how could we ever sing GOD's song in this wasteland?

How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land?

Ps.137.4

How shall we sing the LORD's song In a foreign land?

But how can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land?

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

Ps.137.5

If I ever forget you, Jerusalem, let my fingers wither and fall off like leaves.

Ps.137.5

If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.

Ps.137.5

If I forget you, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget its skill!

Ps.137.5

If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill upon the harp.

Ps.137.6

If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

Ps.137.6

Let my tongue swell and turn black if I fail to remember you, If I fail, O dear Jerusalem, to honor you as my greatest.

Ps.137.6

May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.

Ps.137.6

If I do not remember you, Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth-- If I do not exalt Jerusalem Above my chief joy.

Ps.137.6

May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I fail to remember you, if I don't make Jerusalem my highest joy.

Ps.137.7

Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

Ps.137.7

GOD, remember those Edomites, and remember the ruin of Jerusalem, That day they yelled out, "Wreck it, smash it to bits!"

Ps.137.7

Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. "Tear it down," they cried, "tear it down to its foundations!"

Ps.137.7

Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said, "Raze it, raze it, To its very foundation!"

Ps.137.7

O LORD, remember what the Edomites did on the day the armies of Babylon captured Jerusalem. "Destroy it!" they yelled. "Level it to the ground!"

Ps.137.8

O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

Ps.137.8

And you, Babylonians--ravagers! A reward to whoever gets back at you for all you've done to us;

Ps.137.8

O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us-

Ps.137.8

O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed, Happy the one who repays you as you have served us!

Ps.137.8

O Babylon, you will be destroyed. Happy is the one who pays you back for what you have done to us.

Ps.137.9

Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

Ps.137.9

Yes, a reward to the one who grabs your babies and smashes their heads on the rocks!

Ps.137.9

he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

Happy the one who takes and dashes Your little ones against the rock!
