2Chr.12.5

Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

2Chr.12.5

Then the prophet Shemaiah, accompanied by the leaders of Judah who had retreated to Jerusalem before Shishak, came to Rehoboam and said, "GOD's word: You abandoned me; now I abandon you to Shishak."

2Chr.12.5

Then the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and to the leaders of Judah who had assembled in Jerusalem for fear of Shishak, and he said to them, "This is what the LORD says, 'You have abandoned me; therefore, I now abandon you to Shishak.'"

The prophet Shemaiah then met with Rehoboam and Judah's leaders, who had all fled to Jerusalem because of Shishak. Shemaiah told them, "This is what the LORD says: You have abandoned me, so I am abandoning you to Shishak."

2Chr.12.6

Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.

2Chr.12.6

The leaders of Israel and the king were repentant and said, "GOD is right."

And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

2Chr.12.7

When GOD saw that they were humbly repentant, the word of GOD came to Shemaiah: "Because they are humble, I'll not destroy them--I'll give them a break; I won't use Shishak to express my wrath against Jerusalem.

2Chr.12.7

When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak.

When the LORD saw their change of heart, he gave this message to Shemaiah: "Since the people have humbled themselves, I will not completely destroy them and will soon give them some relief. I will not use Shishak to pour out my anger on Jerusalem.

2Chr.12.8

Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

2Chr.12.8

What I will do, though, is make them Shishak's subjects--they'll learn the difference between serving me and serving human kings."

2Chr.12.8

They will, however, become subject to him, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands."

2Chr.12.8

Nevertheless they will be his servants, that they may distinguish My service from the service of the kingdoms of the nations."

2Chr.12.8

But they will become his subjects, so that they can learn how much better it is to serve me than to serve earthly rulers."

2Chr.12.9

So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

So King Shishak of Egypt came to Jerusalem and took away all the treasures of the Temple of the LORD and of the royal palace, including all of Solomon's gold shields.

2Chr.12.10

Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king's house.

2Chr.12.10

b3.5King Rehoboam replaced the gold shields with bronze shields and gave them to the guards who were posted at the entrance to the royal palace.

2Chr.12.10

So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.

2Chr.12.10

Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the doorway of the king's house.

2Chr.12.10

King Rehoboam later replaced them with bronze shields and entrusted them to the care of the captain of his bodyguard.

2Chr.12.11

And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.

2Chr.12.11

Whenever the king went to GOD's Temple, the guards went with him carrying the shields, but they always returned them to the guardroom.b0

2Chr.12.11

Whenever the king went to the LORD's temple, the guards went with him, bearing the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom.

2Chr.12.11

Whenever the king went to the Temple of the LORD, the guards would carry them along and then return them to the guardroom.

2Chr.12.12

And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.

2Chr.12.12

Because Rehoboam was repentant, GOD's anger was blunted, so he wasn't totally destroyed. The picture wasn't entirely bleak--there were some good things going on in Judah.

2Chr.12.12

Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD's anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah.

2Chr.12.12

When he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, so as not to destroy him completely; and things also went well in Judah.

2Chr.12.12

Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD's anger was turned aside, and he did not destroy him completely. And there was still goodness in the land of Judah.

2Chr.12.13

So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

2Chr.12.13

King Rehoboam regrouped and reestablished his rule in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became king and continued as king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city GOD chose out of all the tribes of Israel as the special presence of his Name. His mother was Naamah from Ammon.

2Chr.12.13

King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and continued as king. His mother's name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.

2Chr.12.13

Thus King Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem and reigned. His mother's name was Naamah, an Ammonitess.

Rehoboam's mother was Naamah, a woman from Ammon.

2Chr.12.14

And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

2Chr.12.14

But the final verdict on Rehoboam was that he was a bad king--GOD was not important to him; his heart neither cared for nor sought after GOD.

2Chr.12.14

He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD.

2Chr.12.14

And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the LORD.

2Chr.12.14

But he was an evil king, for he did not seek the LORD with all his heart.
