Gen.49.1

And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

Gen.49.1

Jacob called his sons and said, "Gather around. I want to tell you what you can expect in the days to come."

Then Jacob called for his sons and said: "Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come.

Then Jacob called together all his sons and said, "Gather around me, and I will tell you what is going to happen to you in the days to come.

Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father.

Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:

Reuben, you're my firstborn, my strength, first proof of my manhood, at the top in honor and at the top in power,

"Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honor, excelling in power.

"Reuben, you are my firstborn, My might and the beginning of my strength, The excellency of dignity and the excellency of power.

"Reuben, you are my oldest son, the child of my vigorous youth. You are first on the list in rank and honor.

Gen.49.4

Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.

Gen.49.4

But like a bucket of water spilled, you'll be at the top no more, Because you climbed into your father's marriage bed, mounting that couch, and you defiled it.

Turbulent as the waters, you will no longer excel, for you went up onto your father's bed, onto my couch and defiled it.

Unstable as water, you shall not excel, Because you went up to your father's bed; Then you defiled it-- He went up to my couch.

But you are as unruly as the waves of the sea, and you will be first no longer. For you slept with one of my wives; you dishonored me in my own bed.

Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.

Simeon and Levi are two of a kind, ready to fight at the drop of a hat.

O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.

Gen.49.6

I don't want anything to do with their vendettas, want no part in their bitter feuds; They kill men in fits of temper, slash oxen on a whim.

Let me not enter their council, let me not join their assembly, for they have killed men in their anger and hamstrung oxen as they pleased.

Let not my soul enter their council; Let not my honor be united to their assembly; For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self-will they hamstrung an ox.

O my soul, stay away from them. May I never be a party to their wicked plans. For in their anger they murdered men, and they crippled oxen just for sport.

Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

A curse on their uncontrolled anger, on their indiscriminate wrath. I'll throw them out with the trash; I'll shred and scatter them like confetti throughout Israel.

Cursed be their anger, so fierce, and their fury, so cruel! I will scatter them in Jacob and disperse them in Israel.

Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee.

You, Judah, your brothers will praise you: Your fingers on your enemies' throat, while your brothers honor you.

Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?

You're a lion's cub, Judah, home fresh from the kill, my son. Look at him, crouched like a lion, king of beasts; who dares mess with him?

You are a lion's cub, O Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness-who dares to rouse him?

Judah is a lion's whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?

Judah is a young lion that has finished eating its prey. Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a lioness--who will dare to rouse him?

Gen.49.10

The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Gen.49.10

The scepter shall not leave Judah; he'll keep a firm grip on the command staff Until the ultimate ruler comes and the nations obey him.

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his.

Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:

He'll tie up his donkey to the grapevine, his purebred prize to a sturdy branch. He will wash his shirt in wine and his cloak in the blood of grapes,

He ties his foal to a grapevine, the colt of his donkey to a choice vine. He washes his clothes in wine because his harvest is so plentiful.

His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

"Zebulun will settle on the shores of the sea and will be a harbor for ships; his borders will extend to Sidon.

Issachar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens:

Issachar is one tough donkey crouching between the corrals;

"Issachar is a rawboned donkey lying down between two saddlebags.

Gen.49.14

"Issachar is a strong donkey, Lying down between two burdens;

Gen.49.14

"Issachar is a strong beast of burden, resting among the sheepfolds.

Gen.49.15

And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.

Gen.49.15

When he saw how good the place was, how pleasant the country, He gave up his freedom and went to work as a slave.

Gen.49.15

When he sees how good is his resting place and how pleasant is his land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and submit to forced labor.

Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.

Dan is only a small snake in the grass, a lethal serpent in ambush by the road When he strikes a horse in the heel, and brings its huge rider crashing down.

Dan will be a serpent by the roadside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse's heels so that its rider tumbles backward.

I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD.

Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.

Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties.

Asher will become famous for rich foods, candies and sweets fit for kings.

"Asher's food will be rich; he will provide delicacies fit for a king.

Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.

Naphtali is a deer running free that gives birth to lovely fawns.

Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall:

Joseph is a wild donkey, a wild donkey by a spring, spirited donkeys on a hill.

The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him:

Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:

The God of your father--may he help you! And may The Strong God--may he give you his blessings, Blessings tumbling out of the skies, blessings bursting up from the Earth- blessings of breasts and womb.

May the blessings of your father exceed the blessings of the ancient mountains, surpass the delights of the eternal hills; May they rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the one consecrated among his brothers.
