We would have been swallowed alive by their violent anger,

when their anger flared against us, they would have swallowed us alive;

Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;

they would have swallowed us alive because of their burning anger against us.

Swept away by the flood of rage, drowned in the torrent;

the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,

Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul;

We would have lost our lives in the wild, raging water.

Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives.

Oh, blessed be GOD! He didn't go off and leave us. He didn't abandon us defenseless, helpless as a rabbit in a pack of snarling dogs.

Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
