Phlm.1.1

Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,

Phlm.1.1

I, Paul, am a prisoner for the sake of Christ, here with my brother Timothy. I write this letter to you, Philemon, my good friend and companion in this work--

Phlm.1.1

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother,

Phlm.1.1

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer,

Phlm.1.1

This letter is from Paul, in prison for preaching the Good News about Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy. It is written to Philemon, our much loved co-worker,

Phlm.1.2

And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:

Phlm.1.2

also to our sister Apphia, to Archippus, a real trooper, and to the church that meets in your house.

Phlm.1.2

To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker, to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier and to the church that meets in your home:

Phlm.1.2

to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house:

Phlm.1.2

and to our sister Apphia and to Archippus, a fellow soldier of the cross. I am also writing to the church that meets in your house.

Phlm.1.3

Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Phlm.1.3

God's best to you! Christ's blessings on you!

Phlm.1.3

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Phlm.1.3

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Phlm.1.3

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Phlm.1.4

I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

Phlm.1.4

Every time your name comes up in my prayers, I say, "Oh, thank you, God!

Phlm.1.4

I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers,

Phlm.1.4

I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers,

Phlm.1.4

I always thank God when I pray for you, Philemon,

Phlm.1.5

Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;

Phlm.1.5

" I keep hearing of the love and faith you have for the Master Jesus, which brims over to other Christians.

Phlm.1.5

because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints.

Phlm.1.5

hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,

Phlm.1.5

because I keep hearing of your trust in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people.

Phlm.1.6

That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Phlm.1.6

And I keep praying that this faith we hold in common keeps showing up in the good things we do, and that people recognize Christ in all of it.

Phlm.1.6

I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.

Phlm.1.6

that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Phlm.1.6

You are generous because of your faith. And I am praying that you will really put your generosity to work, for in so doing you will come to an understanding of all the good things we can do for Christ.

Phlm.1.7

For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

Phlm.1.7

Friend, you have no idea how good your love makes me feel, doubly so when I see your hospitality to fellow believers.

Phlm.1.7

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.

Phlm.1.7

For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.

Phlm.1.7

I myself have gained much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because your kindness has so often refreshed the hearts of God's people.

Phlm.1.8

Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,

Phlm.1.8

In line with all this I have a favor to ask of you. As Christ's ambassador and now a prisoner for him, I wouldn't hesitate to command this if I thought it necessary,

Phlm.1.8

Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do,

Phlm.1.8

Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you what is fitting,

Phlm.1.8

That is why I am boldly asking a favor of you. I could demand it in the name of Christ because it is the right thing for you to do,

Phlm.1.9

Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

Phlm.1.9

but I'd rather make it a personal request.

Phlm.1.9

yet I appeal to you on the basis of love. I then, as Paul--an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus--

Phlm.1.9

yet for love's sake I rather appeal to you--being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ--

Phlm.1.9

but because of our love, I prefer just to ask you. So take this as a request from your friend Paul, an old man, now in prison for the sake of Christ Jesus.

Phlm.1.10

I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

Phlm.1.10

While here in jail, I've fathered a child, so to speak. And here he is, hand-carrying this letter--Onesimus!

Phlm.1.10

I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains.

Phlm.1.10

I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains,

Phlm.1.10

My plea is that you show kindness to Onesimus. I think of him as my own son because he became a believer as a result of my ministry here in prison.

Phlm.1.11

Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

Phlm.1.11

He was useless to you before; now he's useful to both of us.

Phlm.1.11

Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me.

Phlm.1.11

who once was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable to you and to me.

Phlm.1.11

Onesimus hasn't been of much use to you in the past, but now he is very useful to both of us.

Phlm.1.12

Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

Phlm.1.12

I'm sending him back to you, but it feels like I'm cutting off my right arm in doing so.

Phlm.1.12

I am sending him--who is my very heart--back to you.

Phlm.1.12

I am sending him back. You therefore receive him, that is, my own heart,

Phlm.1.12

I am sending him back to you, and with him comes my own heart.

Phlm.1.13

Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

Phlm.1.13

I wanted in the worst way to keep him here as your stand-in to help out while I'm in jail for the Message.

Phlm.1.13

I would have liked to keep him with me so that he could take your place in helping me while I am in chains for the gospel.

Phlm.1.13

whom I wished to keep with me, that on your behalf he might minister to me in my chains for the gospel.

Phlm.1.13

I really wanted to keep him here with me while I am in these chains for preaching the Good News, and he would have helped me on your behalf.

Phlm.1.14

But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

Phlm.1.14

But I didn't want to do anything behind your back, make you do a good deed that you hadn't willingly agreed to.

Phlm.1.14

But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favor you do will be spontaneous and not forced.

Phlm.1.14

But without your consent I wanted to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion, as it were, but voluntary.

Phlm.1.14

But I didn't want to do anything without your consent. And I didn't want you to help because you were forced to do it but because you wanted to.

Phlm.1.15

For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

Phlm.1.15

Maybe it's all for the best that you lost him for a while. You're getting him back now for good--

Phlm.1.15

Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back for good--

Phlm.1.15

For perhaps he departed for a while for this purpose, that you might receive him forever,

Phlm.1.15

Perhaps you could think of it this way: Onesimus ran away for a little while so you could have him back forever.

Phlm.1.16

Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

Phlm.1.16

and no mere slave this time, but a true Christian brother! That's what he was to me--he'll be even more than that to you.

Phlm.1.16

no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord.

Phlm.1.16

no longer as a slave but more than a slave--a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

Phlm.1.16

He is no longer just a slave; he is a beloved brother, especially to me. Now he will mean much more to you, both as a slave and as a brother in the Lord.

Phlm.1.17

If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

Phlm.1.17

So if you still consider me a comrade-in-arms, welcome him back as you would me.

Phlm.1.17

So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.

Phlm.1.17

If then you count me as a partner, receive him as you would me.

Phlm.1.17

So if you consider me your partner, give him the same welcome you would give me if I were coming.

Phlm.1.18

If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;

Phlm.1.18

If he damaged anything or owes you anything, chalk it up to my account.

Phlm.1.18

If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me.

Phlm.1.18

But if he has wronged you or owes anything, put that on my account.

Phlm.1.18

If he has harmed you in any way or stolen anything from you, charge me for it.

Phlm.1.19

I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.

Phlm.1.19

This is my personal signature--Paul-and I stand behind it. (I don't need to remind you, do I, that you owe your very life to me?)

Phlm.1.19

I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back--not to mention that you owe me your very self.

Phlm.1.19

I, Paul, am writing with my own hand. I will repay--not to mention to you that you owe me even your own self besides.

Phlm.1.19

I, Paul, write this in my own handwriting: "I will repay it." And I won't mention that you owe me your very soul!

Phlm.1.20

Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

Phlm.1.20

Do me this big favor, friend. You'll be doing it for Christ, but it will also do my heart good.

Phlm.1.20

I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ.

Phlm.1.20

Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord.

Phlm.1.20

Yes, dear brother, please do me this favor for the Lord's sake. Give me this encouragement in Christ.

Phlm.1.21

Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

Phlm.1.21

I know you well enough to know you will. You'll probably go far beyond what I've written.

Phlm.1.21

Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.

Phlm.1.21

Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.

Phlm.1.21

I am confident as I write this letter that you will do what I ask and even more!

Phlm.1.22

But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

Phlm.1.22

And by the way, get a room ready for me. Because of your prayers, I fully expect to be your guest again.

Phlm.1.22

And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers.

Phlm.1.22

But, meanwhile, also prepare a guest room for me, for I trust that through your prayers I shall be granted to you.

Phlm.1.22

Please keep a guest room ready for me, for I am hoping that God will answer your prayers and let me return to you soon.

Phlm.1.23

There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;

Phlm.1.23

Epaphras, my cellmate in the cause of Christ, says hello.

Phlm.1.23

Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings.

Phlm.1.23

Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,

Phlm.1.23

Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings.

Phlm.1.24

Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.

Phlm.1.24

Also my coworkers Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke.

Phlm.1.24

And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers.

Phlm.1.24

as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow laborers.

Phlm.1.24

So do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my co-workers.

Phlm.1.25

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

Phlm.1.25

All the best to you from the Master, Jesus Christ!

Phlm.1.25

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

Phlm.1.25

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

Phlm.1.25

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
