Sin is a destroyer! And an opportunity lost cannot be regained. By consistently sinning against the almighty God, Israel profaned the temple of worship; God sold them into captivity and had the temple destroyed by invading armies. The almighty God is great and deserves to be worshipped in the beauty of His holiness.

In our text, Solomon set out to build a house for God. The details given in reference to all that he did to build the temple was to remind believers about the initial condition of the house, which was later destroyed by the Babylonian soldiers. This was because of the sin of Israel. Their state of apostasy resulted in the destruction ofthe great temple Solomon built. Never again in history would such an elaborate temple be built by Israel and never again would the nation be able to accumulate such great amount of silver and gold.

The temple was rebuilt when the remnants returned from Babylonian captivity, but not with the splendor of bronze, silver and gold with which Solomon had built. Another temple was built during %uFB01ne reign of Herod the Great, but again not with all the bronze, silver and gold that Solomon used in the building of the first temple. 

The first experience of salvation is always the best. Like Esau, who lost his birthright and soughtwith tears to reclaim it afterward without success, those who have at anytime lost their personal experience in Christ can testify that even though they got it back, it was never the same. It is damning to be reticent in our walk with Christ. This is why believers must guard jealously all their spiritual experiences and  ensure they are not stolen by the devil or lost  over a mere mess of porridge.
