Goal

Is it possible to please God? if it is possible to please God, how can you please God? What does it even mean to please God? What displeases the Lord? Has God ever been pleased by any man? I intend to provide Bible-based answers to these questions

Is it possible to please God?

When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16 vs 7

From this verse, it is obvious that God can be pleased. In fact, It may interest you to know that God is not over-demanding if we look into His Word clearly.

Our Heavenly Father is not burden to serve but a worthy God who demands and deserved the best we have to offer.

if it is possible to please God, how can you please God?

To answer this question, we must jump to the next question which is What does it mean to please God?

What does it even mean to please God?

To please God means to live a life that is directed to fulfilling our Creator's purpose for our creation.

This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise. Isaiah 43 vs 21

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 1 Peter 2 vs 9

Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. 1 Timothy 1 vs 16

Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6 vs 7,8

From these few verses of the Bible, it should be clear that the life that is lived to show forth the praises of God, portrays godly and Christlike example and reveals the saving grace of our Lord Jesus will please God. In addition, living with clean hands and a pure heart before God and man will please God. Matthew 5 vs 8, Psalm 15, 24 vs 3,4

What Displeases God?

This question is the opposite of the previous question. Sin displeases God! Wilful sinning against God brings the wrath of God upon the sinner.

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6 vs 16 - 19;

In some religious quarters, there is this false belief that God cannot be offended by His children and so these people commits sins without remorse and repentance. Such people will be damned if they do not repent. God does not condone sin irrespective of the people.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. Exodus 32 vs 33

Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.  First John 3 vs 6 - 8;

Read Romans 1 vs 18 - 31 for more of what displeases God.  Let me answer the last question.

Has God ever been pleased by any man?

The answer is YES. Many have found grace and favor in the sight of God and the Bible contains history of such people. Let me list a few:

And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:  And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. Genesis 5 vs 22 - 24

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. Genesis 18 vs 17 - 19

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Mathew 3 : 16,17

The list goes on and on. I have limited myself to scriptural examples. God has His children in every generation. The question is are you willing to be one of them? Are you willing to turn your back on the world and cleave to Lord in these polluted and sinful last days? Are you going to flow with the world and or grow in the Word of God? The answer is yours and the choice is yours to make. But don't be deceived.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Hebrews 12 vs 14

God's standard is high and His provisions for true godliness is abundant. To please God we must repent of our pride and every known sins, submit ourselves at the feet of the Cross of Jesus, dedicate our bodies and resources to further the spread of the kingdom of God, pray against the activities of the devils, watch out against sins and tempters and earnestly contend for the faith ( Jude vs 3).

God can be pleased and He has made provisions for us to please. But you need to come out of the world that says holiness is not possible. You must believe God and accept Jesus as your sin-bearer and feed on the true word of God daily. By depending on Him in your daily endeavors, you will please God and make the kingdom of God.
