And likewise, I will no longer have pity on the inhabitants of the land," says the LORD. "I will let them fall into each other's clutches, as well as into the clutches of their king. They will turn the land into a wilderness, and I will not protect them."

Zech.11.7

And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.

Zech.11.7

So I took over from the crass, money-grubbing owners, and shepherded the sheep marked for slaughter. I got myself two shepherd staffs. I named one Lovely and the other Harmony. Then I went to work shepherding the sheep.

Zech.11.7

So I pastured the flock marked for slaughter, particularly the oppressed of the flock. Then I took two staffs and called one Favor and the other Union, and I pastured the flock.

Zech.11.7

So I fed the flock for slaughter, in particular the poor of the flock. I took for myself two staffs: the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bonds; and I fed the flock.

Zech.11.7

So I cared for the flock intended for slaughter--the flock that was oppressed. Then I took two shepherd's staffs and named one Favor and the other Union.

Zech.11.8

Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

Zech.11.8

Within a month I got rid of the corrupt shepherds. I got tired of putting up with them--and they couldn't stand me.

Zech.11.8

In one month I got rid of the three shepherds. The flock detested me, and I grew weary of them

Zech.11.8

I dismissed the three shepherds in one month. My soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

Zech.11.8

I got rid of their three evil shepherds in a single month. But I became impatient with these sheep--this nation--and they hated me, too.

Zech.11.9

Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.

Zech.11.9

And then I got tired of the sheep and said, "I've had it with you--no more shepherding from me. If you die, you die; if you're attacked, you're attacked. Whoever survives can eat what's left."

Zech.11.9

and said, "I will not be your shepherd. Let the dying die, and the perishing perish. Let those who are left eat one another's flesh."

Zech.11.9

Then I said, "I will not feed you. Let what is dying die, and what is perishing perish. Let those that are left eat each other's flesh."

Zech.11.9

So I told them, "I won't be your shepherd any longer. If you die, you die. If you are killed, you are killed. And those who remain will devour each other!"

Zech.11.10

And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.

Zech.11.10

Then I took the staff named Lovely and broke it across my knee, breaking the beautiful covenant I had made with all the peoples.

Zech.11.10

Then I took my staff called Favor and broke it, revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations.

Zech.11.10

And I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it in two, that I might break the covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

Zech.11.10

Then I took my staff called Favor and snapped it in two, showing that I had revoked the covenant I had made with all the nations.

Zech.11.11

And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.

Zech.11.11

In one stroke, both staff and covenant were broken. The money-hungry owners saw me do it and knew GOD was behind it.

Zech.11.11

It was revoked on that day, and so the afflicted of the flock who were watching me knew it was the word of the LORD.

Zech.11.11

So it was broken on that day. Thus the poor of the flock, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the LORD.

Zech.11.11

That was the end of my covenant with them. Those who bought and sold sheep were watching me, and they knew that the LORD was speaking to them through my actions.

Zech.11.12

And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.

Zech.11.12

Then I addressed them: "Pay me what you think I'm worth." They paid me an insulting sum, counting out thirty silver coins.

Zech.11.12

I told them, "If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it." So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.

Zech.11.12

Then I said to them, "If it is agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, refrain." So they weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.

Zech.11.12

And I said to them, "If you like, give me my wages, whatever I am worth; but only if you want to." So they counted out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.

Zech.11.13

And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

Zech.11.13

GOD told me, "Throw it in the poor box." This stingy wage was all they thought of me and my work! So I took the thirty silver coins and threw them into the poor box in GOD's Temple.

Zech.11.13

And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter"-the handsome price at which they priced me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD to the potter.

Zech.11.13

And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter"--that princely price they set on me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD for the potter.

Zech.11.13

And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potters "--this magnificent sum at which they valued me! So I took the thirty coins and threw them to the potters in the Temple of the LORD.

Zech.11.14

Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

Zech.11.14

Then I broke the other staff, Harmony, across my knee, breaking the concord between Judah and Israel.

Zech.11.14

Then I broke my second staff called Union, breaking the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

Zech.11.14

Then I cut in two my other staff, Bonds, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

Zech.11.14

Then I broke my other staff, Union, to show that the bond of unity between Judah and Israel was broken.

Zech.11.15

And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

Zech.11.15

GOD then said, "Dress up like a stupid shepherd.

Zech.11.15

Then the LORD said to me, "Take again the equipment of a foolish shepherd.

Zech.11.15

And the LORD said to me, "Next, take for yourself the implements of a foolish shepherd.

Zech.11.15

Then the LORD said to me, "Go again and play the part of a worthless shepherd.

Zech.11.16

For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.

Zech.11.16

I'm going to install just such a shepherd in this land--a shepherd indifferent to victims, who ignores the lost, abandons the injured, and disdains decent citizens. He'll only be in it for what he can get out of it, using and abusing any and all.

Zech.11.16

For I am going to raise up a shepherd over the land who will not care for the lost, or seek the young, or heal the injured, or feed the healthy, but will eat the meat of the choice sheep, tearing off their hoofs.

Zech.11.16

For indeed I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young, nor heal those that are broken, nor feed those that still stand. But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their hooves in pieces.

Zech.11.16

This will illustrate how I will give this nation a shepherd who will not care for the sheep that are threatened by death, nor look after the young, nor heal the injured, nor feed the healthy. Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves.

Zech.11.17

Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

Zech.11.17

"Doom to you, useless shepherd, walking off and leaving the sheep! A curse on your arm! A curse on your right eye! Your arm will hang limp and useless. Your right eye will go stone blind."

Zech.11.17

"Woe to the worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword strike his arm and his right eye! May his arm be completely withered, his right eye totally blinded!"

Zech.11.17

"Woe to the worthless shepherd, Who leaves the flock! A sword shall be against his arm And against his right eye; His arm shall completely wither, And his right eye shall be totally blinded."

Zech.11.17

Doom is certain for this worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword will cut his arm and pierce his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind!"
