Zech.5-Zech.8,Jude,Ps.139.17-Ps.139.24

Zech.5-Zech.8

Zech.5.1

Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.

Zech.5.1

I looked up again and saw--surprise!-a book on the wing! A book flying!

Zech.5.1

I looked again-and there before me was a flying scroll!

Zech.5.1

Then I turned and raised my eyes, and saw there a flying scroll.

Zech.5.1

I looked up again and saw a scroll flying through the air.

Zech.5.2

And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

Zech.5.2

The Messenger-Angel said to me, "What do you see now?" I said, "I see a book flying, a huge book--thirty feet long and fifteen wide!"

Zech.5.2

He asked me, "What do you see?" I answered, "I see a flying scroll, thirty feet long and fifteen feet wide. "

Zech.5.2

And he said to me, "What do you see?" So I answered, "I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits."

Zech.5.2

"What do you see?" the angel asked. "I see a flying scroll," I replied. "It appears to be about thirty feet long and fifteen feet wide. "

Zech.5.3

Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

Zech.5.3

He told me, "This book is the verdict going out worldwide against thieves and liars. The first half of the book disposes of everyone who steals; the second half takes care of everyone who lies.

Zech.5.3

And he said to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished.

Zech.5.3

Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth: "Every thief shall be expelled,' according to this side of the scroll; and, "Every perjurer shall be expelled,' according to that side of it."

Zech.5.3

Then he said to me, "This scroll contains the curse that is going out over the entire land. One side says that those who steal will be banished from the land; the other side says that those who swear falsely will be banished from the land.

Zech.5.4

I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

Zech.5.4

I launched it"--Decree of GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies--"and so it will fly into the house of every thief and every liar. It will land in each house and tear it down, timbers and stones."

Zech.5.4

The LORD Almighty declares, 'I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of him who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in his house and destroy it, both its timbers and its stones.'"

Zech.5.4

"I will send out the curse," says the LORD of hosts; "It shall enter the house of the thief And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It shall remain in the midst of his house And consume it, with its timber and stones."

Zech.5.4

And this is what the LORD Almighty says: I am sending this curse into the house of every thief and into the house of everyone who swears falsely by my name. And my curse will remain in that house until it is completely destroyed--even its timbers and stones."

Zech.5.5

Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

Zech.5.5

The Messenger-Angel appeared and said, "Look up. Tell me what you see."

Zech.5.5

Then the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me, "Look up and see what this is that is appearing."

Zech.5.5

Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me, "Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth."

Zech.5.5

Then the angel who was talking with me came forward and said, "Look up! Something is appearing in the sky."

Zech.5.6

And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

Zech.5.6

I said, "What in the world is that?" He said, "This is a bushel basket on a journey. It holds the sin of everyone, everywhere."

Zech.5.6

I asked, "What is it?" He replied, "It is a measuring basket. "And he added, "This is the iniquity of the people throughout the land."

Zech.5.6

So I asked, "What is it?" And he said, "It is a basket that is going forth." He also said, "This is their resemblance throughout the earth:

Zech.5.6

"What is it?" I asked. He replied, "It is a basket for measuring grain, and it is filled with the sins of everyone throughout the land."

Zech.5.7

And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.

Zech.5.7

Then the lid made of lead was removed from the basket--and there was a woman sitting in it!

Zech.5.7

Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman!

Zech.5.7

Here is a lead disc lifted up, and this is a woman sitting inside the basket";

Zech.5.7

When the heavy lead cover was lifted off the basket, there was a woman sitting inside it.

Zech.5.8

And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

Zech.5.8

He said, "This is Miss Wicked." He pushed her back down into the basket and clamped the lead lid over her.

Zech.5.8

He said, "This is wickedness," and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed the lead cover down over its mouth.

Zech.5.8

then he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he thrust her down into the basket, and threw the lead cover over its mouth.

Zech.5.8

The angel said, "The woman's name is Wickedness," and he pushed her back into the basket and closed the heavy lid again.

Zech.5.9

Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

Zech.5.9

Then I looked up and to my surprise saw two women flying. On outstretched wings they airlifted the bushel basket into the sky.

Zech.5.9

Then I looked up-and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.

Zech.5.9

Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.

Zech.5.9

Then I looked up and saw two women flying toward us, with wings gliding on the wind. Their wings were like those of a stork, and they picked up the basket and flew with it into the sky.

Zech.5.10

Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?

Zech.5.10

I said to the Messenger-Angel, "Where are they taking the bushel basket?"

Zech.5.10

"Where are they taking the basket?" I asked the angel who was speaking to me.

Zech.5.10

So I said to the angel who talked with me, "Where are they carrying the basket?"

Zech.5.10

"Where are they taking the basket?" I asked the angel.

Zech.5.11

And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

Zech.5.11

He said, "East to the land of Shinar. They will build a garage to house it. When it's finished, the basket will be stored there."

Zech.5.11

He replied, "To the country of Babylonia to build a house for it. When it is ready, the basket will be set there in its place."

Zech.5.11

And he said to me, "To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base."

Zech.5.11

He replied, "To the land of Babylonia, where they will build a temple for the basket. And when the temple is ready, they will set the basket there on its pedestal."

Zech.6.1

And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.

Zech.6.1

Once again I looked up--another strange sight! Four chariots charging out from between two mountains. The mountains were bronze.

Zech.6.1

I looked up again-and there before me were four chariots coming out from between two mountains-mountains of bronze!

Zech.6.1

Then I turned and raised my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze.

Zech.6.1

Then I looked up again and saw four chariots coming from between two bronze mountains.

Zech.6.2

In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;

Zech.6.2

The first chariot was drawn by red horses, the second chariot by black horses,

Zech.6.2

The first chariot had red horses, the second black,

Zech.6.2

With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses,

Zech.6.2

The first chariot was pulled by red horses, the second by black horses,

Zech.6.3

And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.

Zech.6.3

the third chariot by white horses, and the fourth chariot by dappled horses. All the horses were powerful.

Zech.6.3

the third white, and the fourth dappled-all of them powerful.

Zech.6.3

with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses--strong steeds.

Zech.6.3

the third by white horses, and the fourth by dappled-gray horses.

Zech.6.4

Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?

Zech.6.4

I asked the Messenger-Angel, "Sir, what's the meaning here?"

Zech.6.4

I asked the angel who was speaking to me, "What are these, my lord?"

Zech.6.4

Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, "What are these, my lord?"

Zech.6.4

"And what are these, my lord?" I asked the angel who was talking with me.

Zech.6.5

And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.

Zech.6.5

The angel answered, "These are the four winds of heaven, which originate with the Master of the whole earth.

Zech.6.5

The angel answered me, "These are the four spirits of heaven, going out from standing in the presence of the Lord of the whole world.

Zech.6.5

And the angel answered and said to me, "These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth.

Zech.6.5

He replied, "These are the four spirits of heaven who stand before the Lord of all the earth. They are going out to do his work.

Zech.6.6

The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country.

Zech.6.6

The black horses are headed north with the white ones right after them. The dappled horses are headed south."

Zech.6.6

The one with the black horses is going toward the north country, the one with the white horses toward the west, and the one with the dappled horses toward the south."

Zech.6.6

The one with the black horses is going to the north country, the white are going after them, and the dappled are going toward the south country."

Zech.6.6

The chariot with black horses is going north, the chariot with white horses is going west, and the chariot with dappled-gray horses is going south."

Zech.6.7

And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.

Zech.6.7

The powerful horses galloped out, bursting with energy, eager to patrol through the earth. The Messenger-Angel commanded: "On your way! Survey the earth!" and they were off in every direction.

Zech.6.7

When the powerful horses went out, they were straining to go throughout the earth. And he said, "Go throughout the earth!" So they went throughout the earth.

Zech.6.7

Then the strong steeds went out, eager to go, that they might walk to and fro throughout the earth. And He said, "Go, walk to and fro throughout the earth." So they walked to and fro throughout the earth.

Zech.6.7

The powerful horses were eager to be off, to patrol back and forth across the earth. And the LORD said, "Go and patrol the earth!" So they left at once on their patrol.

Zech.6.8

Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.

Zech.6.8

Then he called to me and said, "Look at them go! The ones going north are conveying a sense of my Spirit, serene and secure. No more trouble from that direction."

Zech.6.8

Then he called to me, "Look, those going toward the north country have given my Spirit rest in the land of the north."

Zech.6.8

And He called to me, and spoke to me, saying, "See, those who go toward the north country have given rest to My Spirit in the north country."

Zech.6.8

Then the LORD summoned me and said, "Those who went north have vented the anger of my Spirit there."

Zech.6.9

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Zech.6.9

Then this Message from GOD came to me:

Zech.6.9

The word of the LORD came to me:

Zech.6.9

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying:

Zech.6.9

Then I received another message from the LORD:

Zech.6.10

Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah;

Zech.6.10

"Take up a collection from the exiles. Target Heldai, Tobiah, and Jedaiah. They've just arrived from Babylon. You'll find them at the home of Josiah son of Zephaniah.

Zech.6.10

"Take silver and gold from the exiles Heldai, Tobijah and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon. Go the same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah.

Zech.6.10

"Receive the gift from the captives--from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have come from Babylon--and go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah.

Zech.6.10

"Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah will bring gifts of silver and gold from the Jews exiled in Babylon. As soon as they arrive, meet them at the home of Josiah son of Zephaniah.

Zech.6.11

Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;

Zech.6.11

Collect silver and gold from them and fashion crowns. Place one on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest,

Zech.6.11

Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak.

Zech.6.11

Take the silver and gold, make an elaborate crown, and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

Zech.6.11

Accept their gifts and make a crown from the silver and gold. Then put the crown on the head of Jeshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

Zech.6.12

And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:

Zech.6.12

and give him this message: A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies. Be alert. We have a man here whose name is Branch. He will branch out from where he is and build the Temple of GOD.

Zech.6.12

Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD.

Zech.6.12

Then speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD of hosts, saying: "Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall branch out, And He shall build the temple of the LORD;

Zech.6.12

Tell him that the LORD Almighty says: Here is the man called the Branch. He will branch out where he is and build the Temple of the LORD.

Zech.6.13

Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

Zech.6.13

Yes, he's the one. He'll build the Temple of GOD. Then he'll assume the role of royalty, take his place on the throne and rule--a priest sitting on the throne!-showing that king and priest can coexist in harmony.'

Zech.6.13

It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.'

Zech.6.13

Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD. He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on His throne; So He shall be a priest on His throne, And the counsel of peace shall be between them both."'

Zech.6.13

He will build the LORD's Temple, and he will receive royal honor and will rule as king from his throne. He will also serve as priest from his throne, and there will be perfect harmony between the two.

Zech.6.14

And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the LORD.

Zech.6.14

"The other crown will be in the Temple of GOD as a symbol of royalty, under the custodial care of Helem, Tobiah, Jedaiah, and Hen son of Zephaniah.

Zech.6.14

The crown will be given to Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah and Hen son of Zephaniah as a memorial in the temple of the LORD.

Zech.6.14

"Now the elaborate crown shall be for a memorial in the temple of the LORD for Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen the son of Zephaniah.

Zech.6.14

"The crown will be a memorial in the Temple of the LORD to honor those who gave it--Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Josiah son of Zephaniah."

Zech.6.15

And they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of the LORD, and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.

Zech.6.15

"People will come from faraway places to pitch in and rebuild the Temple of GOD. This will confirm that GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies did, in fact, send me to you. All this follows as you put your minds to a life of responsive obedience to the voice of your GOD."

Zech.6.15

Those who are far away will come and help to build the temple of the LORD, and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the LORD your God."

Zech.6.15

Even those from afar shall come and build the temple of the LORD. Then you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. And this shall come to pass if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God."

Zech.6.15

Many will come from distant lands to rebuild the Temple of the LORD. And when this happens, you will know my messages have been from the LORD Almighty. All this will happen if you carefully obey the commands of the LORD your God.

Zech.7.1

And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

Zech.7.1

On the fourth day of the ninth month, in the fourth year of the reign of King Darius, GOD's Message again came to Zechariah.

Zech.7.1

In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Kislev.

Zech.7.1

Now in the fourth year of King Darius it came to pass that the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, on the fourth day of the ninth month, Chislev,

Zech.7.1

On December 7 of the fourth year of King Darius's reign, another message came to Zechariah from the LORD.

Zech.7.2

When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,

Zech.7.2

The town of Bethel had sent a delegation headed by Sarezer and Regem-Melech to pray for GOD's blessing

Zech.7.2

The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-Melech, together with their men, to entreat the LORD

Zech.7.2

when the people sent Sherezer, with Regem-Melech and his men, to the house of God, to pray before the LORD,

Zech.7.2

The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regemmelech, along with their men, to seek the LORD's favor.

Zech.7.3

And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

Zech.7.3

and to confer with the priests of the Temple of GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies, and also with the prophets. They posed this question: "Should we plan for a day of mourning and abstinence next August, the seventieth anniversary of Jerusalem's fall, as we have been doing all these years?"

Zech.7.3

by asking the priests of the house of the LORD Almighty and the prophets, "Should I mourn and fast in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?"

Zech.7.3

and to ask the priests who were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and the prophets, saying, "Should I weep in the fifth month and fast as I have done for so many years?"

Zech.7.3

They were to ask this question of the prophets and of the priests at the Temple of the LORD Almighty: "Should we continue to mourn and fast each summer on the anniversary of the Temple's destruction, as we have done for so many years?"

Zech.7.4

Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,

Zech.7.4

GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies gave me this Message for them,

Zech.7.4

Then the word of the LORD Almighty came to me:

Zech.7.4

Then the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,

Zech.7.4

The LORD Almighty sent me this message:

Zech.7.5

Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

Zech.7.5

for all the people and for the priests: "When you held days of fasting every fifth and seventh month all these seventy years, were you doing it for me?

Zech.7.5

"Ask all the people of the land and the priests, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?

Zech.7.5

"Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests: "When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months during those seventy years, did you really fast for Me--for Me?

Zech.7.5

"Say to all your people and your priests, `During those seventy years of exile, when you fasted and mourned in the summer and at the festival in early autumn, was it really for me that you were fasting?

Zech.7.6

And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

Zech.7.6

And when you held feasts, was that for me? Hardly. You're interested in religion, I'm interested in people.

Zech.7.6

And when you were eating and drinking, were you not just feasting for yourselves?

Zech.7.6

When you eat and when you drink, do you not eat and drink for yourselves?

Zech.7.6

And even now in your holy festivals, you don't think about me but only of pleasing yourselves.

Zech.7.7

Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?

Zech.7.7

"There's nothing new to say on the subject. Don't you still have the message of the earlier prophets from the time when Jerusalem was still a thriving, bustling city and the outlying countryside, the Negev and Shephelah, was populated?

Zech.7.7

Are these not the words the LORD proclaimed through the earlier prophets when Jerusalem and its surrounding towns were at rest and prosperous, and the Negev and the western foothills were settled?'"

Zech.7.7

Should you not have obeyed the words which the LORD proclaimed through the former prophets when Jerusalem and the cities around it were inhabited and prosperous, and the South and the Lowland were inhabited?"'

Zech.7.7

Isn't this the same message the LORD proclaimed through the prophets years ago when Jerusalem and the towns of Judah were bustling with people, and the Negev and the foothills of Judah were populated areas?'"

Zech.7.8

And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,

Zech.7.8

[This is the message that GOD gave Zechariah.]

Zech.7.8

And the word of the LORD came again to Zechariah:

Zech.7.8

Then the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying,

Zech.7.8

Then this message came to Zechariah from the LORD:

Zech.7.9

Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

Zech.7.9

Well, the message hasn't changed. GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies said then and says now: Treat one another justly. Love your neighbors. Be compassionate with each other.

Zech.7.9

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.

Zech.7.9

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother.

Zech.7.9

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: Judge fairly and honestly, and show mercy and kindness to one another.

Zech.7.10

And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

Zech.7.10

Don't take advantage of widows, orphans, visitors, and the poor. Don't plot and scheme against one another--that's evil.'

Zech.7.10

Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.'

Zech.7.10

Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.'

Zech.7.10

Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and poor people. And do not make evil plans to harm each other.

Zech.7.11

But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

Zech.7.11

"But did your ancestors listen? No, they set their jaws in defiance. They shut their ears.

Zech.7.11

"But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and stopped up their ears.

Zech.7.11

But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.

Zech.7.11

"Your ancestors would not listen to this message. They turned stubbornly away and put their fingers in their ears to keep from hearing.

Zech.7.12

Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

Zech.7.12

They steeled themselves against GOD's revelation and the Spirit-filled sermons preached by the earlier prophets by order of GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies. And GOD became angry, really angry,

Zech.7.12

They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the LORD Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the LORD Almighty was very angry.

Zech.7.12

Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts.

Zech.7.12

They made their hearts as hard as stone, so they could not hear the law or the messages that the LORD Almighty had sent them by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. That is why the LORD Almighty was so angry with them.

Zech.7.13

Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:

Zech.7.13

because he told them everything plainly and they wouldn't listen to a word he said. "So [this is what GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies said]if they won't listen to me, I won't listen to them.

Zech.7.13

"'When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,' says the LORD Almighty.

Zech.7.13

Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen," says the LORD of hosts.

Zech.7.13

"Since they refused to listen when I called to them, I would not listen when they called to me, says the LORD Almighty.

Zech.7.14

But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

Zech.7.14

I scattered them to the four winds. They ended up strangers wherever they were. Their "promised land' became a vacant lot--weeds and tin cans and thistles. Not a sign of life. They turned a dreamland into a wasteland."

Zech.7.14

'I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land was left so desolate behind them that no one could come or go. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.'"

Zech.7.14

"But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Thus the land became desolate after them, so that no one passed through or returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate."

Zech.7.14

I scattered them as with a whirlwind among the distant nations, where they lived as strangers. Their land became so desolate that no one even traveled through it. The land that had been so pleasant became a desert."

Zech.8.1

Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,

Zech.8.1

And then these Messages from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies: A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies:

Zech.8.1

Again the word of the LORD Almighty came to me.

Zech.8.1

Again the word of the LORD of hosts came, saying,

Zech.8.1

Then another message came to me from the LORD Almighty:

Zech.8.2

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.

Zech.8.2

"I am zealous for Zion--I care! I'm angry about Zion--I'm involved!" [JC] GOD's Message:

Zech.8.2

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her."

Zech.8.2

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "I am zealous for Zion with great zeal; With great fervor I am zealous for her.'

Zech.8.2

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: My love for Mount Zion is passionate and strong; I am consumed with passion for Jerusalem!

Zech.8.3

Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.

Zech.8.3

"I've come back to Zion, I've moved back to Jerusalem. Jerusalem's new names will be Truth City, and Mountain of GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies, and Mount Holiness." [JC]

Zech.8.3

This is what the LORD says: "I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain."

Zech.8.3

"Thus says the LORD: "I will return to Zion, And dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, The Mountain of the LORD of hosts, The Holy Mountain.'

Zech.8.3

And now the LORD says: I am returning to Mount Zion, and I will live in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City; the mountain of the LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.

Zech.8.4

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

Zech.8.4

A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies: "Old men and old women will come back to Jerusalem, sit on benches on the streets and spin tales, move around safely with their canes--a good city to grow old in.

Zech.8.4

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age.

Zech.8.4

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Old men and old women shall again sit In the streets of Jerusalem, Each one with his staff in his hand Because of great age.

Zech.8.4

This is what the LORD Almighty says: Once again old men and women will walk Jerusalem's streets with a cane and sit together in the city squares.

Zech.8.5

And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

Zech.8.5

And boys and girls will fill the public parks, laughing and playing--a good city to grow up in." [JC]

Zech.8.5

The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there."

Zech.8.5

The streets of the city Shall be full of boys and girls Playing in its streets.'

Zech.8.5

And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls at play.

Zech.8.6

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.

Zech.8.6

A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies: "Do the problems of returning and rebuilding by just a few survivors seem too much? But is anything too much for me? Not if I have my say." [JC]

Zech.8.6

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "It may seem marvelous to the remnant of this people at that time, but will it seem marvelous to me?" declares the LORD Almighty.

Zech.8.6

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, Will it also be marvelous in My eyes?' Says the LORD of hosts.

Zech.8.6

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: All this may seem impossible to you now, a small and discouraged remnant of God's people. But do you think this is impossible for me, the LORD Almighty?

Zech.8.7

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;

Zech.8.7

A Message from God-of-the-Angel-Armies: "I'll collect my people from countries to the east and countries to the west.

Zech.8.7

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west.

Zech.8.7

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Behold, I will save My people from the land of the east And from the land of the west;

Zech.8.7

This is what the LORD Almighty says: You can be sure that I will rescue my people from the east and from the west.

Zech.8.8

And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

Zech.8.8

I'll bring them back and move them into Jerusalem. They'll be my people and I'll be their God. I'll stick with them and do right by them." [JC] A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies:

Zech.8.8

I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God."

Zech.8.8

I will bring them back, And they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. They shall be My people And I will be their God, In truth and righteousness.'

Zech.8.8

I will bring them home again to live safely in Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be faithful and just toward them as their God.

Zech.8.9

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.

Zech.8.9

"Get a grip on things. Hold tight, you who are listening to what I say through the preaching of the prophets. The Temple of GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies has been reestablished. The Temple is being rebuilt.

Zech.8.9

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "You who now hear these words spoken by the prophets who were there when the foundation was laid for the house of the LORD Almighty, let your hands be strong so that the temple may be built.

Zech.8.9

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Let your hands be strong, You who have been hearing in these days These words by the mouth of the prophets, Who spoke in the day the foundation was laid For the house of the LORD of hosts, That the temple might be built.

Zech.8.9

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: Take heart and finish the task! You have heard what the prophets have been saying about building the Temple of the LORD Almighty ever since the foundation was laid.

Zech.8.10

For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.

Zech.8.10

We've come through a hard time: You worked for a pittance and were lucky to get that; the streets were dangerous; you could never let down your guard; I had turned the world into an armed camp.

Zech.8.10

Before that time there were no wages for man or beast. No one could go about his business safely because of his enemy, for I had turned every man against his neighbor.

Zech.8.10

For before these days There were no wages for man nor any hire for beast; There was no peace from the enemy for whoever went out or came in; For I set all men, everyone, against his neighbor.

Zech.8.10

Before the work on the Temple began, there were no jobs and no wages for either people or animals. No traveler was safe from the enemy, for there were enemies on all sides. I had turned everyone against each other.

Zech.8.11

But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts.

Zech.8.11

"But things have changed. I'm taking the side of my core of surviving people:

Zech.8.11

But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people as I did in the past," declares the LORD Almighty.

Zech.8.11

But now I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days,' says the LORD of hosts.

Zech.8.11

But now I will not treat the remnant of my people as I treated them before, says the LORD Almighty.

Zech.8.12

For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.

Zech.8.12

Sowing and harvesting will resume, Vines will grow grapes, Gardens will flourish, Dew and rain will make everything green. "My core survivors will get everything they need--and more.

Zech.8.12

"The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops, and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people.

Zech.8.12

"For the seed shall be prosperous, The vine shall give its fruit, The ground shall give her increase, And the heavens shall give their dew-- I will cause the remnant of this people To possess all these.

Zech.8.12

For I am planting seeds of peace and prosperity among you. The grapevines will be heavy with fruit. The earth will produce its crops, and the sky will release the dew. Once more I will make the remnant in Judah and Israel the heirs of these blessings.

Zech.8.13

And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong.

Zech.8.13

You've gotten a reputation as a bad-news people, you people of Judah and Israel, but I'm coming to save you. From now on, you're the good-news people. Don't be afraid. Keep a firm grip on what I'm doing."

Zech.8.13

As you have been an object of cursing among the nations, O Judah and Israel, so will I save you, and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong."

Zech.8.13

And it shall come to pass That just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, So I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Do not fear, Let your hands be strong.'

Zech.8.13

Among the nations, Judah and Israel had become symbols of what it means to be cursed. But no longer! Now I will rescue you and make you both a symbol and a source of blessing! So don't be afraid or discouraged, but instead get on with rebuilding the Temple!

Zech.8.14

For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not:

Zech.8.14

A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies: "In the same way that I decided to punish you when your ancestors made me angry, and didn't pull my punches,

Zech.8.14

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Just as I had determined to bring disaster upon you and showed no pity when your fathers angered me," says the LORD Almighty,

Zech.8.14

"For thus says the LORD of hosts: "Just as I determined to punish you When your fathers provoked Me to wrath,' Says the LORD of hosts, "And I would not relent,

Zech.8.14

"For this is what the LORD Almighty says: I did not change my mind when your ancestors angered me and I promised to punish them, says the LORD Almighty.

Zech.8.15

So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.

Zech.8.15

at this time I've decided to bless Jerusalem and the country of Judah. Don't be afraid.

Zech.8.15

"so now I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not be afraid.

Zech.8.15

So again in these days I am determined to do good To Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Do not fear.

Zech.8.15

Neither will I change my decision to bless Jerusalem and the people of Judah. So don't be afraid.

Zech.8.16

These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:

Zech.8.16

And now here's what I want you to do: Tell the truth, the whole truth, when you speak. Do the right thing by one another, both personally and in your courts.

Zech.8.16

These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts;

Zech.8.16

These are the things you shall do: Speak each man the truth to his neighbor; Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace;

Zech.8.16

But this is what you must do: Tell the truth to each other. Render verdicts in your courts that are just and that lead to peace.

Zech.8.17

And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.

Zech.8.17

Don't cook up plans to take unfair advantage of others. Don't do or say what isn't so. I hate all that stuff. Keep your lives simple and honest." Decree of GOD. [JC]

Zech.8.17

do not plot evil against your neighbor, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this," declares the LORD.

Zech.8.17

Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor; And do not love a false oath. For all these are things that I hate,' Says the LORD."

Zech.8.17

Do not make evil plots to harm each other. And stop this habit of swearing to things that are false. I hate all these things, says the LORD."

Zech.8.18

And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying,

Zech.8.18

Again I received a Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies:

Zech.8.18

Again the word of the LORD Almighty came to me.

Zech.8.18

Then the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,

Zech.8.18

Here is another message that came to me from the LORD Almighty.

Zech.8.19

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.

Zech.8.19

"The days of mourning set for the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months will be turned into days of feasting for Judah--celebration and holiday. Embrace truth! Love peace!" [JC]

Zech.8.19

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore love truth and peace."

Zech.8.19

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "The fast of the fourth month, The fast of the fifth, The fast of the seventh, And the fast of the tenth, Shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts For the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.'

Zech.8.19

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: The traditional fasts and times of mourning you have kept in early summer, midsummer, autumn, and winter are now ended. They will become festivals of joy and celebration for the people of Judah. So love truth and peace.

Zech.8.20

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities:

Zech.8.20

A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies: "People and their leaders will come from all over to see what's going on.

Zech.8.20

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come,

Zech.8.20

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Peoples shall yet come, Inhabitants of many cities;

Zech.8.20

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: People from nations and cities around the world will travel to Jerusalem.

Zech.8.21

And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.

Zech.8.21

The leaders will confer with one another: "Shouldn't we try to get in on this? Get in on GOD's blessings? Pray to GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies? What's keeping us? Let's go!'

Zech.8.21

and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, 'Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.'

Zech.8.21

The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, "Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD, And seek the LORD of hosts. I myself will go also."

Zech.8.21

The people of one city will say to the people in another, `Let us go to Jerusalem to ask the LORD to bless us and to seek the LORD Almighty. We are planning to go ourselves.'

Zech.8.22

Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.

Zech.8.22

"Lots of people, powerful nations--they'll come to Jerusalem looking for what they can get from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies, looking to get a blessing from GOD." [JC]

Zech.8.22

And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him."

Zech.8.22

Yes, many peoples and strong nations Shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, And to pray before the LORD.'

Zech.8.22

People from many nations, even powerful nations, will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to ask the LORD to bless them.

Zech.8.23

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

Zech.8.23

A Message from GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies: "At that time, ten men speaking a variety of languages will grab the sleeve of one Jew, hold tight, and say, "Let us go with you. We've heard that God is with you.'"

Zech.8.23

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, 'Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.'"

Zech.8.23

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: "In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.""'

Zech.8.23

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: In those days ten people from nations and languages around the world will clutch at the hem of one Jew's robe. And they will say, `Please let us walk with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'"

Jude

Jude.1.1

Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

Jude.1.1

I, Jude, am a slave to Jesus Christ and brother to James, writing to those loved by God the Father, called and kept safe by Jesus Christ.

Jude.1.1

Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ:

Jude.1.1

Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ:

Jude.1.1

This letter is from Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. I am writing to all who are called to live in the love of God the Father and the care of Jesus Christ.

Jude.1.2

Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.

Jude.1.2

Relax, everything's going to be all right; rest, everything's coming together; open your hearts, love is on the way!

Jude.1.2

Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.

Jude.1.2

Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Jude.1.2

May you receive more and more of God's mercy, peace, and love.

Jude.1.3

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Jude.1.3

Dear friends, I've dropped everything to write you about this life of salvation that we have in common. I have to write insisting--begging!-that you fight with everything you have in you for this faith entrusted to us as a gift to guard and cherish.

Jude.1.3

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.

Jude.1.3

Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

Jude.1.3

Dearly loved friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the truth of the Good News. God gave this unchanging truth once for all time to his holy people.

Jude.1.4

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude.1.4

What has happened is that some people have infiltrated our ranks (our Scriptures warned us this would happen), who beneath their pious skin are shameless scoundrels. Their design is to replace the sheer grace of our God with sheer license--which means doing away with Jesus Christ, our one and only Master.

Jude.1.4

For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

Jude.1.4

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude.1.4

I say this because some godless people have wormed their way in among you, saying that God's forgiveness allows us to live immoral lives. The fate of such people was determined long ago, for they have turned against our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jude.1.5

I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Jude.1.5

I'm laying this out as clearly as I can, even though you once knew all this well enough and shouldn't need reminding. Here it is in brief: The Master saved a people out of the land of Egypt. Later he destroyed those who defected.

Jude.1.5

Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.

Jude.1.5

But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

Jude.1.5

I must remind you--and you know it well--that even though the Lord rescued the whole nation of Israel from Egypt, he later destroyed every one of those who did not remain faithful.

Jude.1.6

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Jude.1.6

And you know the story of the angels who didn't stick to their post, abandoning it for other, darker missions. But they are now chained and jailed in a black hole until the great Judgment Day.

Jude.1.6

And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

Jude.1.6

And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;

Jude.1.6

And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the day of judgment.

Jude.1.7

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Jude.1.7

Sodom and Gomorrah, which went to sexual rack and ruin along with the surrounding cities that acted just like them, are another example. Burning and burning and never burning up, they serve still as a stock warning.

Jude.1.7

In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Jude.1.7

as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Jude.1.7

And don't forget the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with sexual immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and are a warning of the eternal fire that will punish all who are evil.

Jude.1.8

Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

Jude.1.8

This is exactly the same program of these latest infiltrators: dirty sex, rule and rulers thrown out, glory dragged in the mud.

Jude.1.8

In the very same way, these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject authority and slander celestial beings.

Jude.1.8

Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.

Jude.1.8

Yet these false teachers, who claim authority from their dreams, live immoral lives, defy authority, and scoff at the power of the glorious ones.

Jude.1.9

Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Jude.1.9

The Archangel Michael, who went to the mat with the Devil as they fought over the body of Moses, wouldn't have dared level him with a blasphemous curse, but said simply, "No you don't. God will take care of you!"

Jude.1.9

But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

Jude.1.9

Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

Jude.1.9

But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse Satan of blasphemy, but simply said, "The Lord rebuke you." (This took place when Michael was arguing with Satan about Moses' body.)

Jude.1.10

But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

Jude.1.10

But these people sneer at anything they can't understand, and by doing whatever they feel like doing--living by animal instinct only--they participate in their own destruction.

Jude.1.10

Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand; and what things they do understand by instinct, like unreasoning animals--these are the very things that destroy them.

Jude.1.10

But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.

Jude.1.10

But these people mock and curse the things they do not understand. Like animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and they bring about their own destruction.

Jude.1.11

Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Jude.1.11

I'm fed up with them! They've gone down Cain's road; they've been sucked into Balaam's error by greed; they're canceled out in Korah's rebellion.

Jude.1.11

Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam's error; they have been destroyed in Korah's rebellion.

Jude.1.11

Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Jude.1.11

How terrible it will be for them! For they follow the evil example of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they will do anything for money. And like Korah, they will perish because of their rebellion.

Jude.1.12

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

Jude.1.12

These people are warts on your love feasts as you worship and eat together. They're giving you a black eye--carousing shamelessly, grabbing anything that isn't nailed down. They're--Puffs of smoke pushed by gusts of wind; late autumn trees stripped clean of leaf and fruit, Doubly dead, pulled up by the roots;

Jude.1.12

These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm--shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted--twice dead.

Jude.1.12

These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;

Jude.1.12

When these people join you in fellowship meals celebrating the love of the Lord, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are shameless in the way they care only about themselves. They are like clouds blowing over dry land without giving rain, promising much but producing nothing. They are like trees without fruit at harvesttime. They are not only dead but doubly dead, for they have been pulled out by the roots.

Jude.1.13

Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

Jude.1.13

wild ocean waves leaving nothing on the beach but the foam of their shame; Lost stars in outer space on their way to the black hole. p.

Jude.1.13

They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.

Jude.1.13

raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

Jude.1.13

They are like wild waves of the sea, churning up the dirty foam of their shameful deeds. They are wandering stars, heading for everlasting gloom and darkness.

Jude.1.14

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Jude.1.14

Enoch, the seventh after Adam, prophesied of them: "Look! The Master comes with thousands of holy angels

Jude.1.14

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones

Jude.1.14

Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,

Jude.1.14

Now Enoch, who lived seven generations after Adam, prophesied about these people. He said, "Look, the Lord is coming with thousands of his holy ones.

Jude.1.15

To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

Jude.1.15

to bring judgment against them all, convicting each person of every defiling act of shameless sacrilege, of every dirty word they have spewed of their pious filth."

Jude.1.15

to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him."

Jude.1.15

to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."

Jude.1.15

He will bring the people of the world to judgment. He will convict the ungodly of all the evil things they have done in rebellion and of all the insults that godless sinners have spoken against him."

Jude.1.16

These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

Jude.1.16

These are the "grumpers," the bellyachers, grabbing for the biggest piece of the pie, talking big, saying anything they think will get them ahead.

Jude.1.16

These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

Jude.1.16

These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.

Jude.1.16

These people are grumblers and complainers, doing whatever evil they feel like. They are loudmouthed braggarts, and they flatter others to get favors in return.

Jude.1.17

But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Jude.1.17

But remember, dear friends, that the apostles of our Master, Jesus Christ, told us this would happen:

Jude.1.17

But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.

Jude.1.17

But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Jude.1.17

But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ told you,

Jude.1.18

How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

Jude.1.18

"In the last days there will be people who don't take these things seriously anymore. They'll treat them like a joke, and make a religion of their own whims and lusts."

Jude.1.18

They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires."

Jude.1.18

how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.

Jude.1.18

that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to enjoy themselves in every evil way imaginable.

Jude.1.19

These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

Jude.1.19

These are the ones who split churches, thinking only of themselves. There's nothing to them, no sign of the Spirit! [JC]

Jude.1.19

These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

Jude.1.19

These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

Jude.1.19

Now they are here, and they are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They live by natural instinct because they do not have God's Spirit living in them.

Jude.1.20

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Jude.1.20

But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit,

Jude.1.20

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

Jude.1.20

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

Jude.1.20

But you, dear friends, must continue to build your lives on the foundation of your holy faith. And continue to pray as you are directed by the Holy Spirit.

Jude.1.21

Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Jude.1.21

staying right at the center of God's love, keeping your arms open and outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending life, the real life!

Jude.1.21

Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Jude.1.21

Live in such a way that God's love can bless you as you wait for the eternal life that our Lord Jesus Christ in his mercy is going to give you.

Jude.1.22

And of some have compassion, making a difference:

Jude.1.22

Go easy on those who hesitate in the faith.

Jude.1.22

Be merciful to those who doubt;

Jude.1.22

And on some have compassion, making a distinction;

Jude.1.22

Show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.

Jude.1.23

And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Jude.1.23

Go after those who take the wrong way. Be tender with sinners, but not soft on sin. The sin itself stinks to high heaven.

Jude.1.23

snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear--hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

Jude.1.23

but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

Jude.1.23

Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. There are still others to whom you need to show mercy, but be careful that you aren't contaminated by their sins.

Jude.1.24

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

Jude.1.24

And now to him who can keep you on your feet, standing tall in his bright presence, fresh and celebrating--

Jude.1.24

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy--

Jude.1.24

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,

Jude.1.24

And now, all glory to God, who is able to keep you from stumbling, and who will bring you into his glorious presence innocent of sin and with great joy.

Jude.1.25

To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Jude.1.25

to our one God, our only Savior, through Jesus Christ, our Master, be glory, majesty, strength, and rule before all time, and now, and to the end of all time. Yes.

To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.
