Ps.78.17

And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

Ps.78.17

All they did was sin even more, rebel in the desert against the High God.

But they continued to sin against him, rebelling in the desert against the Most High.

But they sinned even more against Him By rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness.

Yet they kept on with their sin, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.

And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

They tried to get their own way with God, clamored for favors, for special attention.

They willfully put God to the test by demanding the food they craved.

And they tested God in their heart By asking for the food of their fancy.

They willfully tested God in their hearts, demanding the foods they craved.

Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

Ps.78.19

They whined like spoiled children, "Why can't God give us a decent meal in this desert?

Ps.78.19

They spoke against God, saying, "Can God spread a table in the desert?

Ps.78.19

Yes, they spoke against God: They said, "Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

Ps.78.19

They even spoke against God himself, saying, "God can't give us food in the desert.

Ps.78.20

Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

Ps.78.20

Sure, he struck the rock and the water flowed, creeks cascaded from the rock. But how about some fresh-baked bread? How about a nice cut of meat?"

Ps.78.20

When he struck the rock, water gushed out, and streams flowed abundantly. But can he also give us food? Can he supply meat for his people?"

Ps.78.20

Behold, He struck the rock, So that the waters gushed out, And the streams overflowed. Can He give bread also? Can He provide meat for His people?|"

Ps.78.20

Yes, he can strike a rock so water gushes out, but he can't give his people bread and meat."

Ps.78.21

Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

Ps.78.21

When GOD heard that, he was furious--his anger flared against Jacob, he lost his temper with Israel.

When the LORD heard them, he was very angry; his fire broke out against Jacob, and his wrath rose against Israel,

Ps.78.21

Therefore the LORD heard this and was furious; So a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also came up against Israel,

When the LORD heard them, he was angry. The fire of his wrath burned against Jacob. Yes, his anger rose against Israel,

Ps.78.22

Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

Ps.78.22

It was clear they didn't believe God, had no intention of trusting in his help.

for they did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance.

Ps.78.22

Because they did not believe in God, And did not trust in His salvation.

Ps.78.22

for they did not believe God or trust him to care for them.

Ps.78.23

Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

Ps.78.23

But God helped them anyway, commanded the clouds and gave orders that opened the gates of heaven.

Yet he gave a command to the skies above and opened the doors of the heavens;

Ps.78.23

Yet He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven,

But he commanded the skies to open--he opened the doors of heaven--

And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

He rained down showers of manna to eat, he gave them the Bread of Heaven.

Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven.

and rained down manna for them to eat. He gave them bread from heaven.

Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

They ate the bread of the mighty angels; he sent them all the food they could eat.

Men ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat.

Men ate angels' food; He sent them food to the full.

Ps.78.25

They ate the food of angels! God gave them all they could hold.

Ps.78.26

He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

He let East Wind break loose from the skies, gave a strong push to South Wind.

Ps.78.26

He let loose the east wind from the heavens and led forth the south wind by his power.

Ps.78.26

He caused an east wind to blow in the heavens; And by His power He brought in the south wind.

Ps.78.26

He released the east wind in the heavens and guided the south wind by his mighty power.

Ps.78.27

He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

Ps.78.27

This time it was birds that rained down--succulent birds, an abundance of birds.

He rained meat down on them like dust, flying birds like sand on the seashore.

He also rained meat on them like the dust, Feathered fowl like the sand of the seas;

Ps.78.27

He rained down meat as thick as dust--birds as plentiful as the sands along the seashore!

And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

He aimed them right for the center of their camp; all round their tents there were birds.

He made them come down inside their camp, all around their tents.

Ps.78.28

And He let them fall in the midst of their camp, All around their dwellings.

He caused the birds to fall within their camp and all around their tents.

So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

They ate and had their fill; he handed them everything they craved on a platter.

They ate till they had more than enough, for he had given them what they craved.

The people ate their fill. He gave them what they wanted.

They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

But their greed knew no bounds; they stuffed their mouths with more and more.

But before they turned from the food they craved, even while it was still in their mouths,

They were not deprived of their craving; But while their food was still in their mouths,

Ps.78.30

But before they finished eating this food they had craved, while the meat was yet in their mouths,

Ps.78.31

The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

Ps.78.31

Finally, God was fed up, his anger erupted--he cut down their brightest and best, he laid low Israel's finest young men.

Ps.78.31

God's anger rose against them; he put to death the sturdiest among them, cutting down the young men of Israel.

The wrath of God came against them, And slew the stoutest of them, And struck down the choice men of Israel.

the anger of God rose against them, and he killed their strongest men; he struck down the finest of Israel's young men.
