Ps.78.1

Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

Ps.78.1

Listen, dear friends, to God's truth, bend your ears to what I tell you.

O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.

Ps.78.1

Give ear, O my people, to my law; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

Ps.78.1

O my people, listen to my teaching. Open your ears to what I am saying,

Ps.78.2

I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

I'm chewing on the morsel of a proverb; I'll let you in on the sweet old truths,

Ps.78.2

I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old-

Ps.78.2

I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,

Ps.78.2

for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past--

Ps.78.3

Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

Ps.78.3

Stories we heard from our fathers, counsel we learned at our mother's knee.

stories we have heard and know, stories our ancestors handed down to us.

Ps.78.4

We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

Ps.78.4

We're not keeping this to ourselves, we're passing it along to the next generation--GOD's fame and fortune, the marvelous things he has done.

Ps.78.4

We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.

Ps.78.4

We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

Ps.78.4

We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did.

Ps.78.5

For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

Ps.78.5

He planted a witness in Jacob, set his Word firmly in Israel, Then commanded our parents to teach it to their children

Ps.78.5

He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children,

Ps.78.5

For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children;

Ps.78.5

For he issued his decree to Jacob; he gave his law to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children,

Ps.78.6

That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

Ps.78.6

So the next generation would know, and all the generations to come--Know the truth and tell the stories so their children

That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,

so the next generation might know them--even the children not yet born--that they in turn might teach their children.

Ps.78.7

That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

Ps.78.7

can trust in God, Never forget the works of God but keep his commands to the letter.

Ps.78.7

Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.

Ps.78.7

That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments;

Ps.78.7

So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.

Ps.78.8

And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

Ps.78.8

Heaven forbid they should be like their parents, bullheaded and bad, A fickle and faithless bunch who never stayed true to God.

Ps.78.8

They would not be like their forefathers- a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.

Ps.78.8

And may not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not set its heart aright, And whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Ps.78.8

Then they will not be like their ancestors--stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
