Ps.55.12

For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

Ps.55.12

This isn't the neighborhood bully mocking me--I could take that. This isn't a foreign devil spitting invective--I could tune that out.

Ps.55.12

If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him.

Ps.55.12

For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; Then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; Then I could hide from him.

Ps.55.12

It is not an enemy who taunts me--I could bear that. It is not my foes who so arrogantly insult me--I could have hidden from them.

Ps.55.13

But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.

Ps.55.13

It's you! We grew up together! You! My best friend!

But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend,

Ps.55.13

But it was you, a man my equal, My companion and my acquaintance.

Ps.55.13

Instead, it is you--my equal, my companion and close friend.

Ps.55.14

We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

Those long hours of leisure as we walked arm in arm, God a third party to our conversation.

with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God.

What good fellowship we enjoyed as we walked together to the house of God.

Ps.55.15

Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

Ps.55.15

Haul my betrayers off alive to hell--let them experience the horror, let them feel every desolate detail of a damned life.

Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the grave, for evil finds lodging among them.

Let death seize them; Let them go down alive into hell, For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.

Let death seize my enemies by surprise; let the grave swallow them alive, for evil makes its home within them.

Ps.55.16

As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.

I call to God; GOD will help me.

But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.

As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me.

But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me.

Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

At dusk, dawn, and noon I sigh deep sighs--he hears, he rescues.

Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.

Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice.

Morning, noon, and night I plead aloud in my distress, and the LORD hears my voice.

Ps.55.18

He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.

My life is well and whole, secure in the middle of danger Even while thousands are lined up against me.

Ps.55.18

He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me.

Ps.55.18

He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, For there were many against me.

Ps.55.18

He rescues me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, even though many still oppose me.

Ps.55.19

God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.

Ps.55.19

God hears it all, and from his judge's bench puts them in their place. But, set in their ways, they won't change; they pay him no mind.

God, who is enthroned forever, will hear them and afflict them- Selah men who never change their ways and have no fear of God.

Ps.55.19

God will hear, and afflict them, Even He who abides from of old.Selah Because they do not change, Therefore they do not fear God.

God, who is king forever, will hear me and will humble them. For my enemies refuse to change their ways; they do not fear God.

He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he hath broken his covenant.

And this, my best friend, betrayed his best friends; his life betrayed his word.

My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant.

He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; He has broken his covenant.

Ps.55.20

As for this friend of mine, he betrayed me; he broke his promises.

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

All my life I've been charmed by his speech, never dreaming he'd turn on me. His words, which were music to my ears, turned to daggers in my heart.

His speech is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, But war was in his heart; His words were softer than oil, Yet they were drawn swords.

His words are as smooth as cream, but in his heart is war. His words are as soothing as lotion, but underneath are daggers!

Ps.55.22

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Ps.55.22

Pile your troubles on GOD's shoulders--he'll carry your load, he'll help you out. He'll never let good people topple into ruin.

Ps.55.22

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

Ps.55.22

Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Ps.55.22

Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

Ps.55.23

But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.

Ps.55.23

But you, God, will throw the others into a muddy bog, Cut the lifespan of assassins and traitors in half. And I trust in you.

But you, O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of corruption; bloodthirsty and deceitful men will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you.

Ps.55.23

But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; But I will trust in You.

Ps.55.23

But you, O God, will send the wicked down to the pit of destruction. Murderers and liars will die young, but I am trusting you to save me.
