Ps.10.1

Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

Ps.10.1

GOD, are you avoiding me? Where are you when I need you?

Why, O LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

O LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I need you the most?

Ps.10.2

The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

Ps.10.2

Full of hot air, the wicked are hot on the trail of the poor. Trip them up, tangle them up in their fine-tuned plots.

In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.

The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.

Proud and wicked people viciously oppress the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others.

For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.

The wicked are windbags, the swindlers have foul breath.

Ps.10.3

He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.

For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the LORD.

The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

The wicked snub GOD, their noses stuck high in the air. Their graffiti are scrawled on the walls: "Catch us if you can!God is dead."

In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.

These wicked people are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead.

Ps.10.5

His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

They care nothing for what you think; if you get in their way, they blow you off.

Ps.10.5

His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies.

His ways are always prospering; Your judgments are far above, out of his sight; As for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

Ps.10.5

Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They pour scorn on all their enemies.

Ps.10.6

He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

They live (they think) a charmed life: "We can't go wrong. This is our lucky year!"

He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble."

He has said in his heart, "I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity."

They say to themselves, "Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!"

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

They carry a mouthful of hexes, their tongues spit venom like adders.

His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.

Ps.10.7

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.

Ps.10.7

Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.

Ps.10.8

He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.

Ps.10.8

They hide behind ordinary people, then pounce on their victims.

Ps.10.8

He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims.

Ps.10.8

He sits in the lurking places of the villages; In the secret places he murders the innocent; His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless.

Ps.10.8

They lurk in dark alleys, murdering the innocent who pass by. They are always searching for some helpless victim.

Ps.10.9

He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.

Ps.10.9

They mark the luckless, then wait like a hunter in a blind; When the poor wretch wanders too close, they stab him in the back.

Ps.10.9

He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.

Ps.10.9

He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; He lies in wait to catch the poor; He catches the poor when he draws him into his net.

Ps.10.9

Like lions they crouch silently, waiting to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture their victims and drag them away in nets.

Ps.10.10

He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

Ps.10.10

The hapless fool is kicked to the ground, the unlucky victim is brutally axed.

Ps.10.10

His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.

Ps.10.10

So he crouches, he lies low, That the helpless may fall by his strength.

Ps.10.10

The helpless are overwhelmed and collapse; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.

Ps.10.11

He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

Ps.10.11

He thinks God has dumped him, he's sure that God is indifferent to his plight.

Ps.10.11

He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees."

Ps.10.11

He has said in his heart, "God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see."

Ps.10.11

The wicked say to themselves, "God isn't watching! He will never notice!"
