My child, if you co-sign a loan for a friend or guarantee the debt of someone you hardly know--

If you've impulsively promised the shirt off your back and now find yourself shivering out in the cold,

if you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth,

You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth.

if you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said--

Friend, don't waste a minute, get yourself out of that mess. You're in that man's clutches! Go, put on a long face; act desperate.

then do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor's hands: Go and humble yourself; press your plea with your neighbor!

quick, get out of it if you possibly can! You have placed yourself at your friend's mercy. Now swallow your pride; go and beg to have your name erased.
