And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Matt.26.47

The words were barely out of his mouth when Judas (the one from the Twelve) showed up, and with him a gang from the high priests and religious leaders brandishing swords and clubs.

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people.

And even as he said this, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived with a mob that was armed with swords and clubs. They had been sent out by the leading priests and other leaders of the people.

Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

The betrayer had worked out a sign with them: "The one I kiss, that's the one--seize him."

Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him."

Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him."

Judas had given them a prearranged signal: "You will know which one to arrest when I go over and give him the kiss of greeting."

And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

He went straight to Jesus, greeted him, "How are you, Rabbi?" and kissed him.

Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed him.

Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed Him.

So Judas came straight to Jesus. "Greetings, Teacher!" he exclaimed and gave him the kiss.

And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

Jesus said, "Friend, why this charade?" Then they came on him--grabbed him and roughed him up.

Jesus replied, "Friend, do what you came for."

Matt.26.50

But Jesus said to him, "Friend, why have you come?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.

Jesus said, "My friend, go ahead and do what you have come for." Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him.

And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

One of those with Jesus pulled his sword and, taking a swing at the Chief Priest's servant, cut off his ear.

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

One of the men with Jesus pulled out a sword and slashed off an ear of the high priest's servant.

Matt.26.52

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

Jesus said, "Put your sword back where it belongs. All who use swords are destroyed by swords.

"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

Matt.26.52

But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.

Matt.26.52

"Put away your sword," Jesus told him. "Those who use the sword will be killed by the sword.

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Don't you realize that I am able right now to call to my Father, and twelve companies--more, if I want them--of fighting angels would be here, battle-ready?

Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?

Matt.26.53

Don't you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly?

Matt.26.54

But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Matt.26.54

But if I did that, how would the Scriptures come true that say this is the way it has to be?"

But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?"

How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?"

But if I did, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that describe what must happen now?"

In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

Then Jesus addressed the mob: "What is this--coming out after me with swords and clubs as if I were a dangerous criminal? Day after day I have been sitting in the Temple teaching, and you never so much as lifted a hand against me.

At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me.

In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, "Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me.

Then Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I some dangerous criminal, that you have come armed with swords and clubs to arrest me? Why didn't you arrest me in the Temple? I was there teaching every day.

Matt.26.56

But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

You've done it this way to confirm and fulfill the prophetic writings." Then all the disciples cut and ran.

And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

The gang that had seized Jesus led him before Caiaphas the Chief Priest, where the religion scholars and leaders had assembled.

Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled.

And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

Then the people who had arrested Jesus led him to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of religious law and other leaders had gathered.

But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

Peter followed at a safe distance until they got to the Chief Priest's courtyard. Then he slipped in and mingled with the servants, watching to see how things would turn out.

But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.

Meanwhile, Peter was following far behind and eventually came to the courtyard of the high priest's house. He went in, sat with the guards, and waited to see what was going to happen to Jesus.

Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

The high priests, conspiring with the Jewish Council, tried to cook up charges against Jesus in order to sentence him to death.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,

Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death.

But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

But even though many stepped up, making up one false accusation after another, nothing was believable. Finally two men came forward

And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

with this: "He said, "I can tear down this Temple of God and after three days rebuild it.'"

Finally two came forward and declared, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.'"

and said, "This fellow said, "I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days."'

who declared, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the Temple of God and rebuild it in three days.'"

And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

The Chief Priest stood up and said, "What do you have to say to the accusation?"

Matt.26.62

Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?"

Matt.26.62

And the high priest arose and said to Him, "Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?"

Matt.26.62

Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Well, aren't you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?"

Matt.26.63

But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

Jesus kept silent. Then the Chief Priest said, "I command you by the authority of the living God to say if you are the Messiah, the Son of God."

But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!"

But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, "I demand in the name of the living God that you tell us whether you are the Messiah, the Son of God."

Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Jesus was curt: "You yourself said it. And that's not all. Soon you'll see it for yourself: The Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Mighty One, Arriving on the clouds of heaven."

"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Jesus replied, "Yes, it is as you say. And in the future you will see me, the Son of Man, sitting at God's right hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven."

Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

At that, the Chief Priest lost his temper, ripping his robes, yelling, "He blasphemed! Why do we need witnesses to accuse him? You all heard him blaspheme!

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.

Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!

Matt.26.65

Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror, shouting, "Blasphemy! Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy.

Matt.26.66

What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

Matt.26.66

Are you going to stand for such blasphemy?" They all said, "Death! That seals his death sentence."

Matt.26.66

What do you think?He is worthy of death," they answered.

Matt.26.66

What do you think?" They answered and said, "He is deserving of death."

Matt.26.66

What is your verdict?Guilty!" they shouted. "He must die!"

Matt.26.67

Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

Then they were spitting in his face and banging him around. They jeered as they slapped him:

Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him

Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands,

Then they spit in Jesus' face and hit him with their fists. And some slapped him,

Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

Matt.26.68

"Prophesy, Messiah: Who hit you that time?"

Matt.26.68

and said, "Prophesy to us, Christ. Who hit you?"

Matt.26.68

saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?"

Matt.26.68

saying, "Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who hit you that time?"
