Seeing a lone fig tree alongside the road, he approached it anticipating a breakfast of figs. When he got to the tree, there was nothing but fig leaves. He said, "No more figs from this tree--ever!" The fig tree withered on the spot, a dry stick.

Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.

and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs on it, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" And immediately the fig tree withered up.

The disciples saw it happen. They rubbed their eyes, saying, "Did we really see this? A leafy tree one minute, a dry stick the next?"

But Jesus was matter-of-fact: "Yes--and if you embrace this kingdom life and don't doubt God, you'll not only do minor feats like I did to the fig tree, but also triumph over huge obstacles. This mountain, for instance, you'll tell, "Go jump in the lake,' and it will jump.

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done.

So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, "Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done.

Then Jesus told them, "I assure you, if you have faith and don't doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, 'May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,' and it will happen.

Absolutely everything, ranging from small to large, as you make it a part of your believing prayer, gets included as you lay hold of God."

Then he was back in the Temple, teaching. The high priests and leaders of the people came up and demanded, "Show us your credentials. Who authorized you to teach here?"

Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?"

Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?"

When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and other leaders came up to him. They demanded, "By whose authority did you drive out the merchants from the Temple? Who gave you such authority?"

Matt.21.24

Jesus responded, "First let me ask you a question. You answer my question and I'll answer yours.

Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things:

"I'll tell you who gave me the authority to do these things if you answer one question," Jesus replied.

About the baptism of John--who authorized it: heaven or humans?" They were on the spot and knew it. They pulled back into a huddle and whispered, "If we say "heaven,' he'll ask us why we didn't believe him;

"Did John's baptism come from heaven or was it merely human?" They talked it over among themselves. "If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn't believe him.

if we say "humans,' we're up against it with the people because they all hold John up as a prophet."

They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' But if we say, 'From men'--we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet."

But if we say, "From men,' we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet."

But if we say it was merely human, we'll be mobbed, because the people think he was a prophet."

They decided to concede that round to Jesus. "We don't know," they answered. Jesus said, "Then neither will I answer your question.

So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

So they finally replied, "We don't know." And Jesus responded, "Then I won't answer your question either.

"Tell me what you think of this story: A man had two sons. He went up to the first and said, "Son, go out for the day and work in the vineyard.'

"What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.'

"But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, "Son, go, work today in my vineyard.'

"But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.'

"The son answered, "I don't want to.' Later on he thought better of it and went.

"'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.

He answered and said, "I will not,' but afterward he regretted it and went.

The son answered, 'No, I won't go,' but later he changed his mind and went anyway.

"The father gave the same command to the second son. He answered, "Sure, glad to.' But he never went.

"Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go.

Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, "I go, sir,' but he did not go.

Then the father told the other son, 'You go,' and he said, 'Yes, sir, I will.' But he didn't go.

"Which of the two sons did what the father asked?" They said, "The first." Jesus said, "Yes, and I tell you that crooks and whores are going to precede you into God's kingdom.

"Which of the two did what his father wanted?The first," they answered.

Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.

Which of the two was obeying his father?" They replied, "The first, of course." Then Jesus explained his meaning: "I assure you, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do.

John came to you showing you the right road. You turned up your noses at him, but the crooks and whores believed him. Even when you saw their changed lives, you didn't care enough to change and believe him.

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.

For John the Baptist came and showed you the way to life, and you didn't believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to turn from your sins and believe him.
