No sooner were the words out of his mouth when Judas, the one out of the Twelve, showed up, and with him a gang of ruffians, sent by the high priests, religion scholars, and leaders, brandishing swords and clubs.

Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.

He went straight to Jesus and said, "Rabbi!" and kissed him.

As soon as he had come, immediately he went up to Him and said to Him, "Rabbi, Rabbi!" and kissed Him.

As soon as they arrived, Judas walked up to Jesus. "Teacher!" he exclaimed, and gave him the kiss.

The others then grabbed him and roughed him up.

The men seized Jesus and arrested him.

One of the men standing there unsheathed his sword, swung, and came down on the Chief Priest's servant, lopping off the man's ear.

Jesus said to them, "What is this, coming after me with swords and clubs as if I were a dangerous criminal?

"Am I leading a rebellion," said Jesus, "that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me?

Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me?

Jesus asked them, "Am I some dangerous criminal, that you come armed with swords and clubs to arrest me?

Day after day I've been sitting in the Temple teaching, and you never so much as lifted a hand against me. What you in fact have done is confirm the prophetic writings."

Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled."

Now a certain young man followed Him, having a linen cloth thrown around his naked body. And the young men laid hold of him,

There was a young man following along behind, clothed only in a linen nightshirt. When the mob tried to grab him,

but he got away, running off naked, leaving them holding the sheet.

they tore off his clothes, but he escaped and ran away naked.

They led Jesus to the Chief Priest, where the high priests, religious leaders, and scholars had gathered together.

They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, elders and teachers of the law came together.

And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes.

Jesus was led to the high priest's home where the leading priests, other leaders, and teachers of religious law had gathered.

Peter followed at a safe distance until they got to the Chief Priest's courtyard, where he mingled with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.

The high priests conspiring with the Jewish Council looked high and low for evidence against Jesus by which they could sentence him to death. They found nothing.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any.

Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none.

Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would testify against Jesus, so they could put him to death. But their efforts were in vain.

Plenty of people were willing to bring in false charges, but nothing added up, and they ended up canceling each other out.

Then a few of them stood up and lied:

Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying,

Finally, some men stood up to testify against him with this lie:

"We heard him say, "I am going to tear down this Temple, built by hard labor, and in three days build another without lifting a hand.'"

"We heard him say, 'I will destroy this man-made temple and in three days will build another, not made by man.'"

Mark.14.58

"We heard Him say, "I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands."'

"We heard him say, 'I will destroy this Temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another, made without human hands.'"

But even they couldn't agree exactly.

Yet even then their testimony did not agree.

In the middle of this, the Chief Priest stood up and asked Jesus, "What do you have to say to the accusation?"

Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?"

Mark.14.60

And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, "Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?"

Mark.14.60

Then the high priest stood up before the others and asked Jesus, "Well, aren't you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?"

Jesus was silent. He said nothing. The Chief Priest tried again, this time asking, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed?"

But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"

But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

Jesus made no reply. Then the high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the blessed God?"

Jesus said, "Yes, I am, and you'll see it yourself: The Son of Man seated At the right hand of the Mighty One, Arriving on the clouds of heaven."

"I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."

Jesus said, "I am, and you will see me, the Son of Man, sitting at God's right hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven."

The Chief Priest lost his temper. Ripping his clothes, he yelled, "Did you hear that? After that do we need witnesses?

The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses?" he asked.

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "What further need do we have of witnesses?

Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said, "Why do we need other witnesses?

You heard the blasphemy. Are you going to stand for it?" They condemned him, one and all. The sentence: death.

"You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?"

You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?" And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.

You have all heard his blasphemy. What is your verdict?" And they all condemned him to death.

Some of them started spitting at him. They blindfolded his eyes, then hit him, saying, "Who hit you? Prophesy!" The guards, punching and slapping, took him away.

They all condemned him as worthy of death. Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, "Prophesy!" And the guards took him and beat him.

Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, "Prophesy!" And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands.

Then some of them began to spit at him, and they blindfolded him and hit his face with their fists. "Who hit you that time, you prophet?" they jeered. And even the guards were hitting him as they led him away.

The girl spotted him and began telling the people standing around, "He's one of them."

When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, "This fellow is one of them."

And the servant girl saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by, "This is one of them."

The servant girl saw him standing there and began telling the others, "That man is definitely one of them!"

He denied it again. After a little while, the bystanders brought it up again. "You've got to be one of them. You've got "Galilean' written all over you."

Again he denied it. After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, "Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean."

But he denied it again. And a little later those who stood by said to Peter again, "Surely you are one of them; for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it."

Peter denied it again. A little later some other bystanders began saying to Peter, "You must be one of them because you are from Galilee."

Now Peter got really nervous and swore, "I never laid eyes on this man you're talking about."

He began to call down curses on himself, and he swore to them, "I don't know this man you're talking about."

Then he began to curse and swear, "I do not know this Man of whom you speak!"

Peter said, "I swear by God, I don't know this man you're talking about."

Just then the rooster crowed a second time. Peter remembered how Jesus had said, "Before a rooster crows twice, you'll deny me three times." He collapsed in tears.

Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times." And he broke down and wept.

A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, "Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times." And when he thought about it, he wept.

And immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Suddenly, Jesus' words flashed through Peter's mind: "Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times." And he broke down and cried.
