"Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults--unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don't condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you'll find life a lot easier.

Do you have the nerve to say, "Let me wash your face for you,' when your own face is distorted by contempt? It's this I-know-better-than-you mentality again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your own part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Or how can you say to your brother, "Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye.

How can you think of saying, 'Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,' when you can't see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye; then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye.

It's who you are, not what you say and do, that counts. Your true being brims over into true words and deeds.

These words I speak to you are not mere additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundation words, words to build a life on.

I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice.

Now the highly valued slave of a Roman officer was sick and near death.

When he heard Jesus was back, he sent leaders from the Jewish community asking him to come and heal his servant.

The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.

So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant.

When the officer heard about Jesus, he sent some respected Jewish leaders to ask him to come and heal his slave.

They came to Jesus and urged him to do it, saying, "He deserves this.

When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, "This man deserves to have you do this,

And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving,

So they earnestly begged Jesus to come with them and help the man. "If anyone deserves your help, it is he," they said,

Jesus went with them. When he was still quite far from the house, the captain sent friends to tell him, "Master, you don't have to go to all this trouble. I'm not that good a person, you know. I'd be embarrassed for you to come to my house,

So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.

Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.

So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say, "Lord, don't trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor.

even embarrassed to come to you in person. Just give the order and my servant will get well.

Taken aback, Jesus addressed the accompanying crowd: "I've yet to come across this kind of simple trust anywhere in Israel, the very people who are supposed to know about God and how he works."

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel."

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd, he said, "I tell you, I haven't seen faith like this in all the land of Israel!"

When the messengers got back home, they found the servant up and well.

Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.

And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.

And when the officer's friends returned to his house, they found the slave completely healed.
