And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

While they were saying all this, Jesus appeared to them and said, "Peace be with you."

But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

He continued with them, "Don't be upset, and don't let all these doubting questions take over.

He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?

And He said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?

"Why are you frightened?" he asked. "Why do you doubt who I am?

Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Look at my hands; look at my feet--it's really me. Touch me. Look me over from head to toe. A ghost doesn't have muscle and bone like this."

And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

They still couldn't believe what they were seeing. It was too much; it seemed too good to be true. He asked, "Do you have any food here?"

And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"

But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, "Have you any food here?"

Still they stood there doubting, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"

And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Then he said, "Everything I told you while I was with you comes to this: All the things written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets, and in the Psalms have to be fulfilled."

He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."

Then he said, "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me by Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must all come true."

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

He went on to open their understanding of the Word of God, showing them how to read their Bibles this way.

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Then he opened their minds to understand these many Scriptures.

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

He said, "You can see now how it is written that the Messiah suffers, rises from the dead on the third day,

He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

Luke.24.46

Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

Luke.24.46

And he said, "Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah must suffer and die and rise again from the dead on the third day.

Luke.24.47

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

and then a total life-change through the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed in his name to all nations--starting from here, from Jerusalem!

With my authority, take this message of repentance to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who turn to me.'

And ye are witnesses of these things.

You're the first to hear and see it. You're the witnesses.

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

What comes next is very important: I am sending what my Father promised to you, so stay here in the city until he arrives, until you're equipped with power from on high."

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."

"And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."

And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
