Luke.24.1

At the crack of dawn on Sunday, the women came to the tomb carrying the burial spices they had prepared.

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.

so they walked in. But once inside, they couldn't find the body of the Master Jesus.

They were puzzled, wondering what to make of this. Then, out of nowhere it seemed, two men, light cascading over them, stood there.

While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.

And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.

They were puzzled, trying to think what could have happened to it. Suddenly, two men appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.

The women were awestruck and bowed down in worship. The men said, "Why are you looking for the Living One in a cemetery?

In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead?

Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead?

The women were terrified and bowed low before them. Then the men asked, "Why are you looking in a tomb for someone who is alive?

He is not here, but raised up. Remember how he told you when you were still back in Galilee

that he had to be handed over to sinners, be killed on a cross, and in three days rise up?"

'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'"

Then they remembered Jesus' words.

They left the tomb and broke the news of all this to the Eleven and the rest.

But Peter jumped to his feet and ran to the tomb. He stooped to look in and saw a few grave clothes, that's all. He walked away puzzled, shaking his head.

Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.

However, Peter ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings; then he went home again, wondering what had happened.

That same day two of them were walking to the village Emmaus, about seven miles out of Jerusalem.

In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them.

So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.

Suddenly, Jesus himself came along and joined them and began walking beside them.

But they were not able to recognize who he was.

but they were kept from recognizing him.

But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.

But they didn't know who he was, because God kept them from recognizing him.

He asked, "What's this you're discussing so intently as you walk along?" They just stood there, long-faced, like they had lost their best friend.

And He said to them, "What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?"

"You seem to be in a deep discussion about something," he said. "What are you so concerned about?" They stopped short, sadness written across their faces.

Then one of them, his name was Cleopas, said, "Are you the only one in Jerusalem who hasn't heard what's happened during the last few days?"

They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?"

Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, "Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?"

Then one of them, Cleopas, replied, "You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn't heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days."

He said, "What has happened?" They said, "The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene. He was a man of God, a prophet, dynamic in work and word, blessed by both God and all the people.

"What things?" he asked.

And He said to them, "What things?" So they said to Him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

"What things?" Jesus asked. "The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth," they said. "He was a prophet who did wonderful miracles. He was a mighty teacher, highly regarded by both God and all the people.

Then our high priests and leaders betrayed him, got him sentenced to death, and crucified him.

"About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;

But our leading priests and other religious leaders arrested him and handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.

And we had our hopes up that he was the One, the One about to deliver Israel. And it is now the third day since it happened.

but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.

But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened.

We had thought he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. That all happened three days ago.

But now some of our women have completely confused us. Early this morning they were at the tomb

In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning

Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us.

Then some women from our group of his followers were at his tomb early this morning, and they came back with an amazing report.

and couldn't find his body. They came back with the story that they had seen a vision of angels who said he was alive.

When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive.

They said his body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive!

Some of our friends went off to the tomb to check and found it empty just as the women said, but they didn't see Jesus."

Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see."

And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see."

Some of our men ran out to see, and sure enough, Jesus' body was gone, just as the women had said."

Then he said to them, "So thick-headed! So slow-hearted! Why can't you simply believe all that the prophets said?

He said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

Then Jesus said to them, "You are such foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.

Don't you see that these things had to happen, that the Messiah had to suffer and only then enter into his glory?"

Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?"

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?"

Wasn't it clearly predicted by the prophets that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his time of glory?"

Then he started at the beginning, with the Books of Moses, and went on through all the Prophets, pointing out everything in the Scriptures that referred to him.

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

Then Jesus quoted passages from the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining what all the Scriptures said about himself.

They came to the edge of the village where they were headed. He acted as if he were going on

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther.

Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther.

By this time they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus would have gone on,

but they pressed him: "Stay and have supper with us. It's nearly evening; the day is done." So he went in with them.

Luke.24.29

But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them.

But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to stay with them.

but they begged him to stay the night with them, since it was getting late. So he went home with them.

And here is what happened: He sat down at the table with them. Taking the bread, he blessed and broke and gave it to them.

As they sat down to eat, he took a small loaf of bread, asked God's blessing on it, broke it, then gave it to them.

At that moment, open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized him. And then he disappeared.

Back and forth they talked. "Didn't we feel on fire as he conversed with us on the road, as he opened up the Scriptures for us?"

They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"

And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?"

They said to each other, "Didn't our hearts feel strangely warm as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?"

They didn't waste a minute. They were up and on their way back to Jerusalem. They found the Eleven and their friends gathered together,

They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together

So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together,

And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem, where the eleven disciples and the other followers of Jesus were gathered. When they arrived, they were greeted with the report,

talking away: "It's really happened! The Master has been raised up--Simon saw him!"

and saying, "It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon."

saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!"

"The Lord has really risen! He appeared to Peter!"

Then the two went over everything that happened on the road and how they recognized him when he broke the bread.

Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.

Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread.
