The men in charge of Jesus began poking fun at him, slapping him around.

The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.

Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him.

Now the guards in charge of Jesus began mocking and beating him.

They put a blindfold on him and taunted, "Who hit you that time?"

Luke.22.64

They blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy! Who hit you?"

Luke.22.64

And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?"

They blindfolded him; then they hit him and asked, "Who hit you that time, you prophet?"

Luke.22.65

They were having a grand time with him.

Luke.22.65

And they said many other insulting things to him.

Luke.22.65

And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.

And they threw all sorts of terrible insults at him.

When it was morning, the religious leaders of the people and the high priests and scholars all got together and brought him before their High Council.

At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.

As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,

At daybreak all the leaders of the people assembled, including the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. Jesus was led before this high council,

They said, "Are you the Messiah?" He answered, "If I said yes, you wouldn't believe me.

"If you are the Christ, "they said, "tell us."

"If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will by no means believe.

and they said, "Tell us if you are the Messiah." But he replied, "If I tell you, you won't believe me.

If I asked what you meant by your question, you wouldn't answer me.

Luke.22.68

Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I asked you, you would not answer.

Luke.22.68

And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go.

Luke.22.68

And if I ask you a question, you won't answer.

Luke.22.69

So here's what I have to say: From here on the Son of Man takes his place at God's right hand, the place of power."

But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God."

Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God."

They all said, "So you admit your claim to be the Son of God?You're the ones who keep saying it," he said.

They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You are right in saying I am."

Then they all said, "Are You then the Son of God?" So He said to them, "You rightly say that I am."

They all shouted, "Then you claim you are the Son of God?" And he replied, "You are right in saying that I am."

But they had made up their minds, "Why do we need any more evidence? We've all heard him as good as say it himself."

Then they said, "Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips."

Luke.22.71

And they said, "What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth."

"What need do we have for other witnesses?" they shouted. "We ourselves heard him say it."

Then they all took Jesus to Pilate

Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.

Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate.

Then the entire council took Jesus over to Pilate, the Roman governor.

Luke.23.2

and began to bring up charges against him. They said, "We found this man undermining our law and order, forbidding taxes to be paid to Caesar, setting himself up as Messiah-King."

And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a king."

And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King."

They began at once to state their case: "This man has been leading our people to ruin by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king."

Pilate asked him, "Is this true that you're "King of the Jews'?Those are your words, not mine," Jesus replied.

So Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied.

Then Pilate asked Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" He answered him and said, "It is as you say."

So Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus replied, "Yes, it is as you say."

Pilate told the high priests and the accompanying crowd, "I find nothing wrong here. He seems harmless enough to me."

Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."

So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no fault in this Man."

Pilate turned to the leading priests and to the crowd and said, "I find nothing wrong with this man!"

But they were vehement. "He's stirring up unrest among the people with his teaching, disturbing the peace everywhere, starting in Galilee and now all through Judea. He's a dangerous man, endangering the peace."

But they insisted, "He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here."

But they were the more fierce, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place."

Then they became desperate. "But he is causing riots everywhere he goes, all over Judea, from Galilee to Jerusalem!"

When Pilate heard that, he asked, "So, he's a Galilean?"

Luke.23.6

On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.

When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean.

Luke.23.6

"Oh, is he a Galilean?" Pilate asked.

Luke.23.7

Realizing that he properly came under Herod's jurisdiction, he passed the buck to Herod, who just happened to be in Jerusalem for a few days.

When he learned that Jesus was under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

When they answered that he was, Pilate sent him to Herod Antipas, because Galilee was under Herod's jurisdiction, and Herod happened to be in Jerusalem at the time.

Herod was delighted when Jesus showed up. He had wanted for a long time to see him, he'd heard so much about him. He hoped to see him do something spectacular.

When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform some miracle.

Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him.

Herod was delighted at the opportunity to see Jesus, because he had heard about him and had been hoping for a long time to see him perform a miracle.

He peppered him with questions. Jesus didn't answer--not one word.

He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing.

He asked Jesus question after question, but Jesus refused to answer.

Luke.23.10

But the high priests and religion scholars were right there, saying their piece, strident and shrill in their accusations.

The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.

Luke.23.10

And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.

Luke.23.10

Meanwhile, the leading priests and the teachers of religious law stood there shouting their accusations.

Mightily offended, Herod turned on Jesus. His soldiers joined in, taunting and jeering. Then they dressed him up in an elaborate king costume and sent him back to Pilate.

Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.

Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

Now Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Then they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.

That day Herod and Pilate became thick as thieves. Always before they had kept their distance.

That day Herod and Pilate became friends--before this they had been enemies.

That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other.

Then Pilate called in the high priests, rulers, and the others

Then Pilate called together the leading priests and other religious leaders, along with the people,

and said, "You brought this man to me as a disturber of the peace. I examined him in front of all of you and found there was nothing to your charge.

and said to them, "You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.

said to them, "You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him;

and he announced his verdict. "You brought this man to me, accusing him of leading a revolt. I have examined him thoroughly on this point in your presence and find him innocent.

Luke.23.15

And neither did Herod, for he has sent him back here with a clean bill of health. It's clear that he's done nothing wrong, let alone anything deserving death.

Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.

Herod came to the same conclusion and sent him back to us. Nothing this man has done calls for the death penalty.

I'm going to warn him to watch his step and let him go."

So I will have him flogged, but then I will release him."

At that, the crowd went wild: "Kill him! Give us Barabbas!"

He tried a third time. "But for what crime? I've found nothing in him deserving death. I'm going to warn him to watch his step and let him go."

But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"

But they shouted, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him!"

Luke.23.21

But they shouted, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"

But they kept at it, a shouting mob, demanding that he be crucified. And finally they shouted him down.

For the third time he spoke to them: "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him."

Then he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go."

For the third time he demanded, "Why? What crime has he committed? I have found no reason to sentence him to death. I will therefore flog him and let him go."

Pilate caved in and gave them what they wanted.

But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.

But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed.

But the crowd shouted louder and louder for Jesus' death, and their voices prevailed.

He released the man thrown in prison for rioting and murder, and gave them Jesus to do whatever they wanted.

So Pilate decided to grant their demand.

So Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested.

So Pilate sentenced Jesus to die as they demanded.

As they led him off, they made Simon, a man from Cyrene who happened to be coming in from the countryside, carry the cross behind Jesus.

He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

And he released to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

As they had requested, he released Barabbas, the man in prison for insurrection and murder. But he delivered Jesus over to them to do as they wished.
