The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

Just then some Pharisees came up and said, "Run for your life! Herod's on the hunt. He's out to kill you!"

At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, "Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you."

On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, "Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You."

A few minutes later some Pharisees said to him, "Get out of here if you want to live, because Herod Antipas wants to kill you!"

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

Jesus said, "Tell that fox that I've no time for him right now. Today and tomorrow I'm busy clearing out the demons and healing the sick; the third day I'm wrapping things up.

He replied, "Go tell that fox, 'I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.'

And He said to them, "Go, tell that fox, "Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.'

Jesus replied, "Go tell that fox that I will keep on casting out demons and doing miracles of healing today and tomorrow; and the third day I will accomplish my purpose.

Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

Besides, it's not proper for a prophet to come to a bad end outside Jerusalem.

In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day--for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killer of prophets, abuser of the messengers of God! How often I've longed to gather your children, gather your children like a hen, Her brood safe under her wings--but you refused and turned away!

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God's messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn't let me.

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

And now it's too late: You won't see me again until the day you say, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of God.'"

And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

One time when Jesus went for a Sabbath meal with one of the top leaders of the Pharisees, all the guests had their eyes on him, watching his every move.

One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.

Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.

One Sabbath day Jesus was in the home of a leader of the Pharisees. The people were watching him closely,

And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

because there was a man there whose arms and legs were swollen.

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

So Jesus asked the religion scholars and Pharisees present, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath? Yes or no?"

And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"

And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

Then he said, "Is there anyone here who, if a child or animal fell down a well, wouldn't rush to pull him out immediately, not asking whether or not it was the Sabbath?"

Then he asked them, "If one of you has a son or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull him out?"

Then He answered them, saying, "Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?"

Then he turned to them and asked, "Which of you doesn't work on the Sabbath? If your son or your cow falls into a pit, don't you proceed at once to get him out?"

And they could not answer him again to these things.

They were stumped. There was nothing they could say to that.

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

He went on to tell a story to the guests around the table. Noticing how each had tried to elbow into the place of honor, he said,

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:

So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them:

When Jesus noticed that all who had come to the dinner were trying to sit near the head of the table, he gave them this advice:

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

"When someone invites you to dinner, don't take the place of honor. Somebody more important than you might have been invited by the host.

"When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited.

"When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him;

"If you are invited to a wedding feast, don't always head for the best seat. What if someone more respected than you has also been invited?

And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

Then he'll come and call out in front of everybody, "You're in the wrong place. The place of honor belongs to this man.' Red-faced, you'll have to make your way to the very last table, the only place left.

If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.

and he who invited you and him come and say to you, "Give place to this man,' and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place.

The host will say, 'Let this person sit here instead.' Then you will be embarrassed and will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table!

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

"When you're invited to dinner, go and sit at the last place. Then when the host comes he may very well say, "Friend, come up to the front.' That will give the dinner guests something to talk about!

But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests.

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

Then he turned to the host. "The next time you put on a dinner, don't just invite your friends and family and rich neighbors, the kind of people who will return the favor.

Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.
