Josh.23.1

And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age.

Josh.23.1

A long time later, after GOD had given Israel rest from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua was a venerable old man,

Josh.23.1

After a long time had passed and the LORD had given Israel rest from all their enemies around them, Joshua, by then old and well advanced in years,

Josh.23.1

Now it came to pass, a long time after the LORD had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua was old, advanced in age.

Josh.23.1

The years passed, and the LORD had given the people of Israel rest from all their enemies. Joshua, who was now very old,

Josh.23.2

And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and stricken in age:

Josh.23.2

Joshua called all Israel together--elders, chiefs, judges, and officers. Then he spoke to them: "I'm an old man. I've lived a long time.

Josh.23.2

summoned all Israel-their elders, leaders, judges and officials-and said to them: "I am old and well advanced in years.

Josh.23.2

And Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers, and said to them: "I am old, advanced in age.

Josh.23.2

called together all the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel. He said to them, "I am an old man now.

Josh.23.3

And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.

Josh.23.3

You have seen everything that GOD has done to these nations because of you. He did it because he's GOD, your God. He fought for you.

Josh.23.3

You yourselves have seen everything the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake; it was the LORD your God who fought for you.

Josh.23.3

You have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the LORD your God is He who has fought for you.

Josh.23.3

You have seen everything the LORD your God has done for you during my lifetime. The LORD your God has fought for you against your enemies.

Josh.23.4

Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward.

Josh.23.4

"Stay alert: I have assigned to you by lot these nations that remain as an inheritance to your tribes--these in addition to the nations I have already cut down--from the Jordan to the Great Sea in the west.

Josh.23.4

Remember how I have allotted as an inheritance for your tribes all the land of the nations that remain-the nations I conquered-between the Jordan and the Great Sea in the west.

Josh.23.4

See, I have divided to you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, as far as the Great Sea westward.

Josh.23.4

I have allotted to you as an inheritance all the land of the nations yet unconquered, as well as the land of those we have already conquered--from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.

Josh.23.5

And the LORD your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.

Josh.23.5

GOD, your God, will drive them out of your path until there's nothing left of them and you'll take over their land just as GOD, your God, promised you.

Josh.23.5

The LORD your God himself will drive them out of your way. He will push them out before you, and you will take possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.

Josh.23.5

And the LORD your God will expel them from before you and drive them out of your sight. So you shall possess their land, as the LORD your God promised you.

Josh.23.5

This land will be yours, for the LORD your God will drive out all the people living there now. You will live there instead of them, just as the LORD your God promised you.

Josh.23.6

Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;

Josh.23.6

"Now, stay strong and steady. Obediently do everything written in the Book of The Revelation of Moses--don't miss a detail.

Josh.23.6

"Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.

Josh.23.6

Therefore be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, lest you turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left,

Josh.23.6

"So be strong! Be very careful to follow all the instructions written in the Book of the Law of Moses. Do not deviate from them in any way.

Josh.23.7

That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:

Josh.23.7

Don't get mixed up with the nations that are still around. Don't so much as speak the names of their gods or swear by them. And by all means don't worship or pray to them.

Josh.23.7

Do not associate with these nations that remain among you; do not invoke the names of their gods or swear by them. You must not serve them or bow down to them.

Josh.23.7

and lest you go among these nations, these who remain among you. You shall not make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause anyone to swear by them; you shall not serve them nor bow down to them,

Josh.23.7

Make sure you do not associate with the other people still remaining in the land. Do not even mention the names of their gods, much less swear by them or worship them.

Josh.23.8

But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

Josh.23.8

Hold tight to GOD, your God, just as you've done up to now.

Josh.23.8

But you are to hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have until now.

Josh.23.8

but you shall hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day.

Josh.23.8

But be faithful to the LORD your God as you have done until now.

Josh.23.9

For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.

Josh.23.9

"GOD has driven out superpower nations before you. And up to now, no one has been able to stand up to you.

Josh.23.9

"The LORD has driven out before you great and powerful nations; to this day no one has been able to withstand you.

Josh.23.9

For the LORD has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day.

Josh.23.9

"For the LORD has driven out great and powerful nations for you, and no one has yet been able to defeat you.

Josh.23.10

One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.

Josh.23.10

Think of it--one of you, single-handedly, putting a thousand on the run! Because GOD is GOD, your God. Because he fights for you, just as he promised you.

Josh.23.10

One of you routs a thousand, because the LORD your God fights for you, just as he promised.

Josh.23.10

One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the LORD your God is He who fights for you, as He promised you.

Josh.23.10

Each one of you will put to flight a thousand of the enemy, for the LORD your God fights for you, just as he has promised.

Josh.23.11

Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.

Josh.23.11

"Now, vigilantly guard your souls: Love GOD, your God.

Josh.23.11

So be very careful to love the LORD your God.

Josh.23.11

Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God.

Josh.23.11

So be very careful to love the LORD your God.

Josh.23.12

Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:

Josh.23.12

Because if you wander off and start taking up with these remaining nations still among you (intermarry, say, and have other dealings with them),

Josh.23.12

"But if you turn away and ally yourselves with the survivors of these nations that remain among you and if you intermarry with them and associate with them,

Josh.23.12

Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations--these that remain among you--and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you,

Josh.23.12

"But if you turn away from him and intermarry with the survivors of these nations remaining among you,

Josh.23.13

Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

Josh.23.13

know for certain that GOD, your God, will not get rid of these nations for you. They'll be nothing but trouble to you--horsewhips on your backs and sand in your eyes--until you're the ones who will be driven out of this good land that GOD, your God, has given you.

Josh.23.13

then you may be sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become snares and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land, which the LORD your God has given you.

Josh.23.13

know for certain that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

Josh.23.13

then know for certain that the LORD your God will no longer drive them out from your land. Instead, they will be a snare and a trap to you, a pain in your side and a thorn in your eyes, and you will be wiped out from this good land the LORD your God has given you.

Josh.23.14

And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.

Josh.23.14

"As you can see, I'm about to go the way we all end up going. Know this with all your heart, with everything in you, that not one detail has failed of all the good things GOD, your God, promised you. It has all happened. Nothing's left undone--not so much as a word.

Josh.23.14

"Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.

Josh.23.14

"Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.

Josh.23.14

"Soon I will die, going the way of all the earth. Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the LORD your God has come true. Not a single one has failed!

Josh.23.15

Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

Josh.23.15

"But just as sure as everything good that GOD, your God, has promised has come true, so also GOD will bring to pass every bad thing until there's nothing left of you in this good land that GOD has given you.

Josh.23.15

But just as every good promise of the LORD your God has come true, so the LORD will bring on you all the evil he has threatened, until he has destroyed you from this good land he has given you.

Josh.23.15

Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all the good things have come upon you which the LORD your God promised you, so the LORD will bring upon you all harmful things, until He has destroyed you from this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

Josh.23.15

But as surely as the LORD your God has given you the good things he promised, he will also bring disaster on you if you disobey him. He will completely wipe you out from this good land he has given you.

Josh.23.16

When ye have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

Josh.23.16

If you leave the path of the Covenant of GOD, your God, that he commanded you, go off and serve and worship other gods, GOD's anger will blaze out against you. In no time at all there'll be nothing left of you, no sign that you've ever been in this good land he gave you."

Josh.23.16

If you violate the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the LORD's anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you."

Josh.23.16

When you have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you."

Josh.23.16

If you break the covenant of the LORD your God by worshiping and serving other gods, his anger will burn against you, and you will quickly be wiped out from the good land he has given you."

Josh.24.11

And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

Josh.24.13

"I handed you a land for which you did not work, towns you did not build. And here you are now living in them and eating from vineyards and olive groves you did not plant.

So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.'

Josh.24.13

I have given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.'

Josh.24.13

I gave you land you had not worked for, and I gave you cities you did not build--the cities in which you are now living. I gave you vineyards and olive groves for food, though you did not plant them.

Josh.24.14

Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

Josh.24.14

"So now: Fear GOD. Worship him in total commitment. Get rid of the gods your ancestors worshiped on the far side of The River (the Euphrates) and in Egypt. You, worship GOD.

Josh.24.14

"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

Josh.24.14

"Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD!

Josh.24.14

"So honor the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone.

Josh.24.15

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Josh.24.15

"If you decide that it's a bad thing to worship GOD, then choose a god you'd rather serve--and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you're now living. As for me and my family, we'll worship GOD."

Josh.24.15

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

Josh.24.15

And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Josh.24.15

But if you are unwilling to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD."

Josh.24.16

And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;

Josh.24.16

The people answered, "We'd never forsake GOD! Never! We'd never leave GOD to worship other gods.

Josh.24.16

Then the people answered, "Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!

Josh.24.16

So the people answered and said: "Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods;

Josh.24.16

The people replied, "We would never forsake the LORD and worship other gods.

Josh.24.17

For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:

Josh.24.17

"GOD is our God! He brought up our ancestors from Egypt and from slave conditions. He did all those great signs while we watched. He has kept his eye on us all along the roads we've traveled and among the nations we've passed through.

Josh.24.17

It was the LORD our God himself who brought us and our fathers up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.

Josh.24.17

for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed.

Josh.24.17

For the LORD our God is the one who rescued us and our ancestors from slavery in the land of Egypt. He performed mighty miracles before our very eyes. As we traveled through the wilderness among our enemies, he preserved us.

John.3.26

John.3.29

The one who gets the bride is, by definition, the bridegroom. And the bridegroom's friend, his "best man'--that's me--in place at his side where he can hear every word, is genuinely happy. How could he be jealous when he knows that the wedding is finished and the marriage is off to a good start? "That's why my cup is running over.
