until GOD, your God, gives your brothers a place of rest just as he has done for you. They also will take possession of the land that GOD, your God, is giving them. Then you will be free to return to your possession, given to you by Moses the servant of GOD across the Jordan to the east."

Josh.1.15

According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Josh.1.17

We obeyed Moses to the letter; we'll also obey you--we just pray that GOD, your God, will be with you as he was with Moses.

Josh.1.17

Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses.

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

Josh.2.1

Joshua son of Nun secretly sent out from Shittim two men as spies: "Go. Look over the land. Check out Jericho." They left and arrived at the house of a harlot named Rahab and stayed there.

Josh.2.1

Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. "Go, look over the land," he said, "especially Jericho." So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

Josh.2.1

Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there.

Josh.2.1

Then Joshua secretly sent out two spies from the Israelite camp at Acacia. He instructed them, "Spy out the land on the other side of the Jordan River, especially around Jericho." So the two men set out and came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there that night.

Josh.2.2

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.

Josh.2.2

The king of Jericho was told, "We've just learned that men arrived tonight to spy out the land. They're from the People of Israel."

Josh.2.2

The king of Jericho was told, "Look! Some of the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land."

Josh.2.2

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, "Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country."

Josh.2.2

But someone told the king of Jericho, "Some Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land."

Josh.2.3

And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.

Josh.2.3

The king of Jericho sent word to Rahab: "Bring out the men who came to you to stay the night in your house. They're spies; they've come to spy out the whole country."

Josh.2.3

So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab: "Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they have come to spy out the whole land."

Josh.2.3

So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, "Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country."

Josh.2.3

So the king of Jericho sent orders to Rahab: "Bring out the men who have come into your house. They are spies sent here to discover the best way to attack us."

Josh.2.4

And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:

Josh.2.4

The woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, "Yes, two men did come to me, but I didn't know where they'd come from.

Josh.2.4

But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, "Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from.

Josh.2.4

Then the woman took the two men and hid them. So she said, "Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from.

Josh.2.4

Rahab, who had hidden the two men, replied, "The men were here earlier, but I didn't know where they were from.

Josh.2.5

And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

Josh.2.5

At dark, when the gate was about to be shut, the men left. But I have no idea where they went. Hurry up! Chase them--you can still catch them!"

Josh.2.5

At dusk, when it was time to close the city gate, the men left. I don't know which way they went. Go after them quickly. You may catch up with them."

Josh.2.5

And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them."

Josh.2.5

They left the city at dusk, as the city gates were about to close, and I don't know where they went. If you hurry, you can probably catch up with them."

Josh.2.6

But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

Josh.2.6

(She had actually taken them up on the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax that were spread out for her on the roof.)

Josh.2.6

(But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax she had laid out on the roof.)

Josh.2.6

(But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.)

Josh.2.6

(But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them beneath piles of flax.)

Josh.2.7

And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

Josh.2.7

So the men set chase down the Jordan road toward the fords. As soon as they were gone, the gate was shut.

Josh.2.7

So the men set out in pursuit of the spies on the road that leads to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as the pursuers had gone out, the gate was shut.

Josh.2.7

Then the men pursued them by the road to the Jordan, to the fords. And as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.

Josh.2.7

So the king's men went looking for the spies along the road leading to the shallow crossing places of the Jordan River. And as soon as the king's men had left, the city gate was shut.

Josh.2.8

And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;

Josh.2.8

Before the spies were down for the night, the woman came up to them on the roof

Josh.2.8

Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof

Josh.2.8

Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof,

Josh.2.8

Before the spies went to sleep that night, Rahab went up on the roof to talk with them.

Josh.2.9

And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

Josh.2.9

and said, "I know that GOD has given you the land. We're all afraid. Everyone in the country feels hopeless.

Josh.2.9

and said to them, "I know that the LORD has given this land to you and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.

Josh.2.9

and said to the men: "I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you.

Josh.2.9

"I know the LORD has given you this land," she told them. "We are all afraid of you. Everyone is living in terror.

Josh.2.10

For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

Josh.2.10

We heard how GOD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you left Egypt, and what he did to the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you put under a holy curse and destroyed.

Josh.2.10

We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed.

Josh.2.10

For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.

Josh.2.10

For we have heard how the LORD made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed.

Josh.2.11

And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

Josh.2.11

We heard it and our hearts sank. We all had the wind knocked out of us. And all because of you, you and GOD, your God, God of the heavens above and God of the earth below.

Josh.2.11

When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone's courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.

Josh.2.11

And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

Josh.2.11

No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the LORD your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.

Josh.2.12

Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:

Josh.2.12

"Now promise me by GOD. I showed you mercy; now show my family mercy. And give me some tangible proof, a guarantee

Josh.2.12

Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign

Josh.2.12

Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token,

Josh.2.12

Now swear to me by the LORD that you will be kind to me and my family since I have helped you. Give me some guarantee that

Josh.2.13

And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

Josh.2.13

of life for my father and mother, my brothers and sisters--everyone connected with my family. Save our souls from death!"

Josh.2.13

that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and that you will save us from death."

Josh.2.13

and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death."

Josh.2.13

when Jericho is conquered, you will let me live, along with my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all their families."

Josh.2.14

And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

Josh.2.14

"Our lives for yours!" said the men. "But don't tell anyone our business. When GOD turns this land over to us, we'll do right by you in loyal mercy."

Josh.2.14

"Our lives for your lives!" the men assured her. "If you don't tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the LORD gives us the land."

Josh.2.14

So the men answered her, "Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. And it shall be, when the LORD has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you."

Josh.2.14

"We offer our own lives as a guarantee for your safety," the men agreed. "If you don't betray us, we will keep our promise when the LORD gives us the land."

Josh.2.15

Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Josh.2.15

She lowered them down out a window with a rope because her house was on the city wall to the outside.

Josh.2.15

So she let them down by a rope through the window, for the house she lived in was part of the city wall.

Josh.2.15

Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall; she dwelt on the wall.

Josh.2.15

Then, since Rahab's house was built into the city wall, she let them down by a rope through the window.

Josh.2.16

And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

Josh.2.16

She told them, "Run for the hills so your pursuers won't find you. Hide out for three days and give your pursuers time to return. Then get on your way."

Josh.2.16

Now she had said to them, "Go to the hills so the pursuers will not find you. Hide yourselves there three days until they return, and then go on your way."

Josh.2.16

And she said to them, "Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward you may go your way."

Josh.2.16

"Escape to the hill country," she told them. "Hide there for three days until the men who are searching for you have returned; then go on your way."

Josh.2.17

And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

Josh.2.17

The men told her, "In order to keep this oath you made us swear,

Josh.2.17

The men said to her, "This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us

Josh.2.17

So the men said to her: "We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear,

Josh.2.17

Before they left, the men told her, "We can guarantee your safety

Josh.2.18

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.

Josh.2.18

here is what you must do: Hang this red rope out the window through which you let us down and gather your entire family with you in your house--father, mother, brothers, and sisters.

Josh.2.18

unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house.

Josh.2.18

unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household to your own home.

Josh.2.18

only if you leave this scarlet rope hanging from the window. And all your family members--your father, mother, brothers, and all your relatives--must be here inside the house.

Josh.2.19

And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

Josh.2.19

Anyone who goes out the doors of your house into the street and is killed, it's his own fault--we aren't responsible. But for everyone within the house we take full responsibility. If anyone lays a hand on one of them, it's our fault.

Josh.2.19

If anyone goes outside your house into the street, his blood will be on his own head; we will not be responsible. As for anyone who is in the house with you, his blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on him.

Josh.2.19

So it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we will be guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him.

Josh.2.19

If they go out into the street, they will be killed, and we cannot be held to our oath. But we swear that no one inside this house will be killed--not a hand will be laid on any of them.

Josh.2.20

And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Josh.2.20

But if you tell anyone of our business here, the oath you made us swear is canceled--we're no longer responsible."

Josh.2.20

But if you tell what we are doing, we will be released from the oath you made us swear."

Josh.2.20

And if you tell this business of ours, then we will be free from your oath which you made us swear."

Josh.2.20

If you betray us, however, we are not bound by this oath in any way."
