Three days later there was a wedding in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there.

Jesus said, "Is that any of our business, Mother--yours or mine? This isn't my time. Don't push me."

"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come."

Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come."

"How does that concern you and me?" Jesus asked. "My time has not yet come."

She went ahead anyway, telling the servants, "Whatever he tells you, do it."

When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn't know what had just happened but the servants, of course, knew), he called out to the bridegroom,

They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside

When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.

When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over.

"Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you've saved the best till now!"

and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!"

"Usually a host serves the best wine first," he said. "Then, when everyone is full and doesn't care, he brings out the less expensive wines. But you have kept the best until now!"

This act in Cana of Galilee was the first sign Jesus gave, the first glimpse of his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

He found the Temple teeming with people selling cattle and sheep and doves. The loan sharks were also there in full strength.

In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; and he saw money changers behind their counters.

Jesus put together a whip out of strips of leather and chased them out of the Temple, stampeding the sheep and cattle, upending the tables of the loan sharks, spilling coins left and right.

So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and oxen, scattered the money changers' coins over the floor, and turned over their tables.

He told the dove merchants, "Get your things out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a shopping mall!"

To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"

And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!"

Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, "Get these things out of here. Don't turn my Father's house into a marketplace!"

That's when his disciples remembered the Scripture, "Zeal for your house consumes me."

So the Jews answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?"

"What right do you have to do these things?" the Jewish leaders demanded. "If you have this authority from God, show us a miraculous sign to prove it."

Jesus answered, "Tear down this Temple and in three days I'll put it back together."

Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"

"What!" they exclaimed. "It took forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can do it in three days?"

But Jesus was talking about his body as the Temple.

But the temple he had spoken of was his body.

But He was speaking of the temple of His body.

But by "this temple," Jesus meant his body.

Later, after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this. They then put two and two together and believed both what was written in Scripture and what Jesus had said.
