But now I am on my way to the One who sent me. Not one of you has asked, "Where are you going?'

"Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'

"But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, "Where are You going?'

John.16.5

"But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and none of you has asked me where I am going.

John.16.6

Instead, the longer I've talked, the sadder you've become.

John.16.6

Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief.

John.16.6

But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

John.16.6

Instead, you are very sad.

John.16.7

So let me say it again, this truth: It's better for you that I leave. If I don't leave, the Friend won't come. But if I go, I'll send him to you.

John.16.7

But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

John.16.7

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

John.16.7

But it is actually best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Counselor won't come. If I do go away, he will come because I will send him to you.

John.16.8

"When he comes, he'll expose the error of the godless world's view of sin, righteousness, and judgment:

When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John.16.8

And when he comes, he will convince the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

He'll show them that their refusal to believe in me is their basic sin;

John.16.9

in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;

John.16.9

of sin, because they do not believe in Me;

John.16.9

The world's sin is unbelief in me.

John.16.10

that righteousness comes from above, where I am with the Father, out of their sight and control;

John.16.10

in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;

John.16.10

of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;

John.16.10

Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.

John.16.11

that judgment takes place as the ruler of this godless world is brought to trial and convicted.

John.16.11

and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

John.16.11

of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

John.16.11

Judgment will come because the prince of this world has already been judged.

John.16.12

"I still have many things to tell you, but you can't handle them now.

"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.

"I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

"Oh, there is so much more I want to tell you, but you can't bear it now.

John.16.13

But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.

John.16.13

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas; he will be telling you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

John.16.14

He will honor me; he will take from me and deliver it to you.

He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.

John.16.14

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

John.16.14

He will bring me glory by revealing to you whatever he receives from me.

Everything the Father has is also mine. That is why I've said, "He takes from me and delivers to you.'

John.16.15

All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

All that the Father has is mine; this is what I mean when I say that the Spirit will reveal to you whatever he receives from me.

"In a day or so you're not going to see me, but then in another day or so you will see me."

"In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me."

"A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father."

"In just a little while I will be gone, and you won't see me anymore. Then, just a little while after that, you will see me again."

John.16.17

That stirred up a hornet's nest of questions among the disciples: "What's he talking about: "In a day or so you're not going to see me, but then in another day or so you will see me'? And, "Because I'm on my way to the Father'?

John.16.17

Some of his disciples said to one another, "What does he mean by saying, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father'?"

John.16.17

Then some of His disciples said among themselves, "What is this that He says to us, "A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, "because I go to the Father'?"

John.16.17

The disciples asked each other, "What does he mean when he says, 'You won't see me, and then you will see me'? And what does he mean when he says, 'I am going to the Father'?

John.16.18

What is this "day or so'? We don't know what he's talking about."

John.16.18

They kept asking, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We don't understand what he is saying."

John.16.18

They said therefore, "What is this that He says, "A little while'? We do not know what He is saying."

John.16.18

And what does he mean by 'a little while'? We don't understand."

John.16.19

Jesus knew they were dying to ask him what he meant, so he said, "Are you trying to figure out among yourselves what I meant when I said, "In a day or so you're not going to see me, but then in another day or so you will see me'?

John.16.19

Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, "Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me'?

John.16.19

Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, "Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, "A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'?

John.16.19

Jesus realized they wanted to ask him, so he said, "Are you asking yourselves what I meant? I said in just a little while I will be gone, and you won't see me anymore. Then, just a little while after that, you will see me again.

John.16.20

Then fix this firmly in your minds: You're going to be in deep mourning while the godless world throws a party. You'll be sad, very sad, but your sadness will develop into gladness.

John.16.20

I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

John.16.20

Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

John.16.20

Truly, you will weep and mourn over what is going to happen to me, but the world will rejoice. You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy when you see me again.

John.16.21

"When a woman gives birth, she has a hard time, there's no getting around it. But when the baby is born, there is joy in the birth. This new life in the world wipes out memory of the pain.

John.16.21

A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.

John.16.21

A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.

John.16.21

It will be like a woman experiencing the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives place to joy because she has brought a new person into the world.

John.16.22

The sadness you have right now is similar to that pain, but the coming joy is also similar. When I see you again, you'll be full of joy, and it will be a joy no one can rob from you.

John.16.22

So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

John.16.22

Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

John.16.22

You have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.

John.16.23

You'll no longer be so full of questions. "This is what I want you to do: Ask the Father for whatever is in keeping with the things I've revealed to you.

In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

"And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.

John.16.23

At that time you won't need to ask me for anything. The truth is, you can go directly to the Father and ask him, and he will grant your request because you use my name.

John.16.24

Ask in my name, according to my will, and he'll most certainly give it to you. Your joy will be a river overflowing its banks!

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.

"I've used figures of speech in telling you these things. Soon I'll drop the figures and tell you about the Father in plain language.

"Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father.

"These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

"I have spoken of these matters in parables, but the time will come when this will not be necessary, and I will tell you plainly all about the Father.

Then you can make your requests directly to him in relation to this life I've revealed to you. I won't continue making requests of the Father on your behalf.

In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.

In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;

Then you will ask in my name. I'm not saying I will ask the Father on your behalf,

I won't need to. Because you've gone out on a limb, committed yourselves to love and trust in me, believing I came directly from the Father, the Father loves you directly.

No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.

John.16.27

for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

John.16.27

for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.

John.16.28

First, I left the Father and arrived in the world; now I leave the world and travel to the Father."

I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father."

John.16.28

I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father."

Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and I will leave the world and return to the Father."

His disciples said, "Finally! You're giving it to us straight, in plain talk--no more figures of speech.

John.16.29

Then Jesus' disciples said, "Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech.

His disciples said to Him, "See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech!

John.16.29

Then his disciples said, "At last you are speaking plainly and not in parables.

John.16.30

Now we know that you know everything--it all comes together in you. You won't have to put up with our questions anymore. We're convinced you came from God."

John.16.30

Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God."

John.16.30

Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God."

Now we understand that you know everything and don't need anyone to tell you anything. From this we believe that you came from God."

Jesus answered them, "Do you finally believe?

"You believe at last!" Jesus answered.

Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?

Jesus asked, "Do you finally believe?

In fact, you're about to make a run for it--saving your own skins and abandoning me. But I'm not abandoned. The Father is with me.

"But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

John.16.32

Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

But the time is coming--in fact, it is already here--when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me.

I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world."

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."

Jesus said these things. Then, raising his eyes in prayer, he said: Father, it's time. Display the bright splendor of your Son So the Son in turn may show your bright splendor.

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,

When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he looked up to heaven and said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.

You put him in charge of everything human So he might give real and eternal life to all in his charge.

"Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.

For you have given him authority over everyone in all the earth. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.

And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, The one and only true God, And Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

And this is the way to have eternal life--to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

I glorified you on earth By completing down to the last detail What you assigned me to do.

I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.

I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to do.

And now, Father, glorify me with your very own splendor, The very splendor I had in your presence Before there was a world. [JC]
