So come on, let's leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on "salvation by self-help" and turning in trust toward God;

if then they turn their backs on it, washing their hands of the whole thing, well, they can't start over as if nothing happened. That's impossible. Why, they've re-crucified Jesus! They've repudiated him in public!

if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people to repentance again because they are nailing the Son of God to the cross again by rejecting him, holding him up to public shame.

Parched ground that soaks up the rain and then produces an abundance of carrots and corn for its gardener gets God's "Well done!"

Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.

When the ground soaks up the rain that falls on it and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has the blessing of God.

But if it produces weeds and thistles, it's more likely to get cussed out. Fields like that are burned, not harvested.

But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

But if a field bears thistles and thorns, it is useless. The farmer will condemn that field and burn it.

I'm sure that won't happen to you, friends. I have better things in mind for you--salvation things!

Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are confident of better things in your case--things that accompany salvation.

But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner.

Dear friends, even though we are talking like this, we really don't believe that it applies to you. We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation.

God doesn't miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you've shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

For God is not unfair. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other Christians, as you still do.

And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish.
