But Abram replied, "O Sovereign LORD, what good are all your blessings when I don't even have a son? Since I don't have a son, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth.

Abram continued, "See, you've given me no children, and now a mere house servant is going to get it all."

And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir."

So Sarai, Abram's wife, took her Egyptian maid Hagar and gave her to her husband Abram as a wife. Abram had been living ten years in Canaan when this took place.
