Gal.1.1

I, Paul, and my companions in faith here, send greetings to the Galatian churches. My authority for writing to you does not come from any popular vote of the people, nor does it come through the appointment of some human higher-up. It comes directly from Jesus the Messiah and God the Father, who raised him from the dead. I'm God-commissioned.

Paul, an apostle--sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead--

This letter is from Paul, an apostle. I was not appointed by any group or by human authority. My call is from Jesus Christ himself and from God the Father, who raised Jesus from the dead.

So I greet you with the great words, grace and peace!

and all the brothers with me, To the churches in Galatia:

All the brothers and sisters here join me in sending greetings to the churches of Galatia.

Gal.1.3

We know the meaning of those words because Jesus Christ rescued us from this evil world we're in by offering himself as a sacrifice for our sins. God's plan is that we all experience that rescue.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

Glory to God forever! Oh, yes!

He died for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.

I can't believe your fickleness--how easily you have turned traitor to him who called you by the grace of Christ by embracing a variant message!

Gal.1.6

It is not a minor variation, you know; it is completely other, an alien message, a no-message, a lie about God. Those who are provoking this agitation among you are turning the Message of Christ on its head.

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,

I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who in his love and mercy called you to share the eternal life he gives through Christ. You are already following a different way

Gal.1.7

Let me be blunt: If one of us--even if an angel from heaven!-were to preach something other than what we preached originally, let him be cursed.

which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.

that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who twist and change the truth concerning Christ.

Gal.1.8

I said it once; I'll say it again: If anyone, regardless of reputation or credentials, preaches something other than what you received originally, let him be cursed.

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

Let God's curse fall on anyone, including myself, who preaches any other message than the one we told you about. Even if an angel comes from heaven and preaches any other message, let him be forever cursed.

Do you think I speak this strongly in order to manipulate crowds? Or curry favor with God? Or get popular applause? If my goal was popularity, I wouldn't bother being Christ's slave.

As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

I will say it again: If anyone preaches any other gospel than the one you welcomed, let God's curse fall upon that person.

Know this--I am most emphatic here, friends--this great Message I delivered to you is not mere human optimism.

Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Obviously, I'm not trying to be a people pleaser! No, I am trying to please God. If I were still trying to please people, I would not be Christ's servant.

Gal.1.11

I didn't receive it through the traditions, and I wasn't taught it in some school. I got it straight from God, received the Message directly from Jesus Christ.

I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.

Gal.1.11

But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.

Gal.1.11

Dear brothers and sisters, I solemnly assure you that the Good News of salvation which I preach is not based on mere human reasoning or logic.

Gal.1.12

I'm sure that you've heard the story of my earlier life when I lived in the Jewish way. In those days I went all out in persecuting God's church. I was systematically destroying it.

I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

For my message came by a direct revelation from Jesus Christ himself. No one else taught me.

Gal.1.13

I was so enthusiastic about the traditions of my ancestors that I advanced head and shoulders above my peers in my career.

For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.

For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it.

You know what I was like when I followed the Jewish religion--how I violently persecuted the Christians. I did my best to get rid of them.

Gal.1.14

Even then God had designs on me. Why, when I was still in my mother's womb he chose and called me out of sheer generosity!

I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

I was one of the most religious Jews of my own age, and I tried as hard as possible to follow all the old traditions of my religion.

Gal.1.15

Now he has intervened and revealed his Son to me so that I might joyfully tell non-Jews about him. Immediately after my calling--without consulting anyone around me

But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased

But then something happened! For it pleased God in his kindness to choose me and call me, even before I was born! What undeserved mercy!

and without going up to Jerusalem to confer with those who were apostles long before I was--I got away to Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus,

to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man,

Then he revealed his Son to me so that I could proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When all this happened to me, I did not rush out to consult with anyone else;

but it was three years before I went up to Jerusalem to compare stories with Peter. I was there only fifteen days--but what days they were!

nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.

Except for our Master's brother James, I saw no other apostles.

Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days.

Then I began my ministry in the regions of Syria and Cilicia.

I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.

You must believe what I am saying, for I declare before God that I am not lying.

After all that time and activity I was still unknown by face among the Christian churches in Judea.

Later I went to Syria and Cilicia.

Then after this visit, I went north into the provinces of Syria and Cilicia.

There was only this report: "That man who once persecuted us is now preaching the very message he used to try to destroy."

I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.

And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ.

And still the Christians in the churches in Judea didn't know me personally.

Their response was to recognize and worship God because of me!

They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy."

But they were hearing only, "He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy."

All they knew was that people were saying, "The one who used to persecute us now preaches the very faith he tried to destroy!"

And they praised God because of me.
