Exod.9.1

GOD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and tell him, "GOD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Release my people so they can worship me.

Exod.9.1

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, so that they may worship me."

Exod.9.1

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go in to Pharaoh and tell him, "Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: "Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

Exod.9.1

"Go back to Pharaoh," the LORD commanded Moses. "Tell him, `This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so they can worship me.

Exod.9.2

If you refuse to release them and continue to hold on to them,

Exod.9.2

If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back,

Exod.9.2

For if you refuse to let them go, and still hold them,

Exod.9.2

If you continue to oppress them and refuse to let them go,

Exod.9.3

I'm giving you fair warning: GOD will come down hard on your livestock out in the fields--horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, sheep--striking them with a severe disease.

Exod.9.3

the hand of the LORD will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field-on your horses and donkeys and camels and on your cattle and sheep and goats.

Exod.9.3

behold, the hand of the LORD will be on your cattle in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the oxen, and on the sheep--a very severe pestilence.

Exod.9.3

the LORD will send a deadly plague to destroy your horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, and sheep.

Exod.9.4

GOD will draw a sharp line between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt. Not one animal that belongs to the Israelites will die.'"

Exod.9.4

But the LORD will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.'"

Exod.9.4

And the LORD will make a difference between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt. So nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel.""'

Exod.9.4

But the LORD will again make a distinction between the property of the Israelites and that of the Egyptians. Not a single one of Israel's livestock will die!'"

Exod.9.5

Then GOD set the time: "Tomorrow GOD will do this thing."

Exod.9.5

The LORD set a time and said, "Tomorrow the LORD will do this in the land."

Exod.9.5

Then the LORD appointed a set time, saying, "Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land."

Exod.9.5

The LORD announced that he would send the plague the very next day,

Exod.9.6

And the next day GOD did it. All the livestock of Egypt died, but not one animal of the Israelites died.

And the next day the LORD did it: All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.

So the LORD did this thing on the next day, and all the livestock of Egypt died; but of the livestock of the children of Israel, not one died.

and he did it, just as he had said. The next morning all the livestock of the Egyptians began to die, but the Israelites didn't lose a single animal from their flocks and herds.

Pharaoh sent men to find out what had happened and there it was: none of the livestock of the Israelites had died--not one death. But Pharaoh stayed stubborn. He wouldn't release the people.

Pharaoh sent men to investigate and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go.

Then Pharaoh sent, and indeed, not even one of the livestock of the Israelites was dead. But the heart of Pharaoh became hard, and he did not let the people go.

Pharaoh sent officials to see whether it was true that none of the Israelites' animals were dead. But even after he found it to be true, his heart remained stubborn. He still refused to let the people go.

Exod.9.8

GOD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take fistfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses throw it into the air right before Pharaoh's eyes;

Exod.9.8

Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh.

Exod.9.8

So the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take for yourselves handfuls of ashes from a furnace, and let Moses scatter it toward the heavens in the sight of Pharaoh.

Exod.9.8

Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take soot from a furnace, and have Moses toss it into the sky while Pharaoh watches.

it will become a film of fine dust all over Egypt and cause sores, an eruption of boils on people and animals throughout Egypt."

Exod.9.9

It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on men and animals throughout the land."

Exod.9.9

And it will become fine dust in all the land of Egypt, and it will cause boils that break out in sores on man and beast throughout all the land of Egypt."

It will spread like fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, causing boils to break out on people and animals alike."

Exod.9.10

So they took soot from a furnace, stood in front of Pharaoh, and threw it up into the air. It caused boils to erupt on people and animals.

So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on men and animals.

Then they took ashes from the furnace and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses scattered them toward heaven. And they caused boils that break out in sores on man and beast.

So they gathered soot from a furnace and went to see Pharaoh. As Pharaoh watched, Moses tossed the soot into the air, and terrible boils broke out on the people and animals throughout Egypt.

The magicians weren't able to compete with Moses this time because of the boils--they were covered with boils just like everyone else in Egypt.

The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians.

And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.

Even the magicians were unable to stand before Moses, because the boils had broken out on them, too.

Exod.9.12

GOD hardened Pharaoh in his stubbornness. He wouldn't listen, just as GOD had said to Moses.

But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses.

But the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh; and he did not heed them, just as the LORD had spoken to Moses.

But the LORD made Pharaoh even more stubborn, and he refused to listen, just as the LORD had predicted.

Exod.9.13

GOD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh. Tell him, "GOD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Release my people so they can worship me.

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me,

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh, and say to him, "Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: "Let My people go, that they may serve Me,

Exod.9.13

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning. Go to Pharaoh and tell him, `The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so they can worship me.

Exod.9.14

This time I am going to strike you and your servants and your people with the full force of my power so you'll get it into your head that there's no one like me anywhere in all the Earth.

Exod.9.14

or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth.

Exod.9.14

for at this time I will send all My plagues to your very heart, and on your servants and on your people, that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth.

Exod.9.14

If you don't, I will send a plague that will really speak to you and your officials and all the Egyptian people. I will prove to you that there is no other God like me in all the earth.

Exod.9.15

You know that by now I could have struck you and your people with deadly disease and there would be nothing left of you, not a trace.

Exod.9.15

For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth.

Exod.9.15

Now if I had stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, then you would have been cut off from the earth.

Exod.9.15

I could have killed you all by now. I could have attacked you with a plague that would have wiped you from the face of the earth.

Exod.9.16

But for one reason only I've kept you on your feet: To make you recognize my power so that my reputation spreads in all the Earth.

Exod.9.16

But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

Exod.9.16

But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.

Exod.9.16

But I have let you live for this reason--that you might see my power and that my fame might spread throughout the earth.

Exod.9.17

You are still building yourself up at my people's expense. You are not letting them go.

Exod.9.17

You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go.

Exod.9.17

As yet you exalt yourself against My people in that you will not let them go.

Exod.9.17

But you are still lording it over my people, and you refuse to let them go.

Exod.9.18

So here's what's going to happen: At this time tomorrow I'm sending a terrific hailstorm--there's never been a storm like this in Egypt from the day of its founding until now.

Exod.9.18

Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now.

Exod.9.18

Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause very heavy hail to rain down, such as has not been in Egypt since its founding until now.

Exod.9.18

So tomorrow at this time I will send a hailstorm worse than any in all of Egypt's history.

Exod.9.19

So get your livestock under roof--everything exposed in the open fields, people and animals, will die when the hail comes down.'"

Exod.9.19

Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every man and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.'"

Exod.9.19

Therefore send now and gather your livestock and all that you have in the field, for the hail shall come down on every man and every animal which is found in the field and is not brought home; and they shall die.""'

Exod.9.19

Quick! Order your livestock and servants to come in from the fields. Every person or animal left outside will die beneath the hail.'"

Exod.9.20

All of Pharaoh's servants who had respect for GOD's word got their workers and animals under cover as fast as they could,

Exod.9.20

Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the LORD hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside.

Exod.9.20

He who feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his livestock flee to the houses.

Exod.9.20

Some of Pharaoh's officials believed what the LORD said. They immediately brought their livestock and servants in from the fields.

Exod.9.21

but those who didn't take GOD's word seriously left their workers and animals out in the field.

Exod.9.21

But those who ignored the word of the LORD left their slaves and livestock in the field.

Exod.9.21

But he who did not regard the word of the LORD left his servants and his livestock in the field.

Exod.9.21

But those who had no respect for the word of the LORD left them out in the open.

Exod.9.22

GOD said to Moses: "Stretch your hands to the skies. Signal the hail to fall all over Egypt on people and animals and crops exposed in the fields of Egypt."

Exod.9.22

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt-on men and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt."

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt--on man, on beast, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt."

Exod.9.22

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Lift your hand toward the sky, and cause the hail to fall throughout Egypt, on the people, the animals, and the crops."

Exod.9.23

Moses lifted his staff to the skies and GOD sent peals of thunder and hail shot through with lightning strikes. GOD rained hail down on the land of Egypt.

When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt;

Exod.9.23

And Moses stretched out his rod toward heaven; and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire darted to the ground. And the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt.

Exod.9.23

So Moses lifted his staff toward the sky, and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning struck the earth. The LORD sent a tremendous hailstorm against all the land of Egypt.

Exod.9.24

The hail came, hail and lightning--a fierce hailstorm. There had been nothing like it in Egypt in its entire history.

Exod.9.24

hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.

Exod.9.24

So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, so very heavy that there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

Exod.9.24

Never in all the history of Egypt had there been a storm like that, with such severe hail and continuous lightning.

Exod.9.25

The hail hit hard all over Egypt. Everything exposed out in the fields, people and animals and crops, was smashed. Even the trees in the fields were shattered.

Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields-both men and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree.

Exod.9.25

And the hail struck throughout the whole land of Egypt, all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail struck every herb of the field and broke every tree of the field.

Exod.9.25

It left all of Egypt in ruins. Everything left in the fields was destroyed--people, animals, and crops alike. Even all the trees were destroyed.

Exod.9.26

Except for Goshen where the Israelites lived; there was no hail in Goshen.

Exod.9.26

The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were.

Exod.9.26

Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.

Exod.9.26

The only spot in all Egypt without hail that day was the land of Goshen, where the people of Israel lived.

Exod.9.27

Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. He said, "I've sinned for sure this time--GOD is in the right and I and my people are in the wrong.

Exod.9.27

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. "This time I have sinned," he said to them. "The LORD is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong.

Exod.9.27

And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time. The LORD is righteous, and my people and I are wicked.

Exod.9.27

Then Pharaoh urgently sent for Moses and Aaron. "I finally admit my fault," he confessed. "The LORD is right, and my people and I are wrong.

Exod.9.28

Pray to GOD. We've had enough of GOD's thunder and hail. I'll let you go. The sooner you're out of here the better."

Exod.9.28

Pray to the LORD, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don't have to stay any longer."

Exod.9.28

Entreat the LORD, that there may be no more mighty thundering and hail, for it is enough. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."

Exod.9.28

Please beg the LORD to end this terrifying thunder and hail. I will let you go at once."

Exod.9.29

Moses said, "As soon as I'm out of the city, I'll stretch out my arms to GOD. The thunder will stop and the hail end so you'll know that the land is GOD's land.

Exod.9.29

Moses replied, "When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the LORD. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the LORD's.

Exod.9.29

So Moses said to him, "As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, that you may know that the earth is the LORD's.

Exod.9.29

"All right," Moses replied. "As soon as I leave the city, I will lift my hands and pray to the LORD. Then the thunder and hail will stop. This will prove to you that the earth belongs to the LORD.

Exod.9.30

Still, I know that you and your servants have no respect for GOD."

Exod.9.30

But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the LORD God."

Exod.9.30

But as for you and your servants, I know that you will not yet fear the LORD God."

Exod.9.30

But as for you and your officials, I know that you still do not fear the LORD God as you should."

Exod.9.31

(The flax and the barley were ruined, for they were just ripening,

Exod.9.31

(The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom.

Exod.9.31

Now the flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in the head and the flax was in bud.

Exod.9.31

All the flax and barley were destroyed because the barley was ripe and the flax was in bloom.

but the wheat and spelt weren't hurt--they ripen later.)

The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)

But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they are late crops.

But the wheat and the spelt were not destroyed because they had not yet sprouted from the ground.

Moses left Pharaoh and the city and stretched out his arms to GOD. The thunder and hail stopped; the storm cleared.

Exod.9.33

Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands toward the LORD; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land.

So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh and spread out his hands to the LORD; then the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth.

So Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. As he lifted his hands to the LORD, all at once the thunder and hail stopped, and the downpour ceased.

Exod.9.34

But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he kept right on sinning, stubborn as ever, both he and his servants.

When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts.

And when Pharaoh saw that the rain, the hail, and the thunder had ceased, he sinned yet more; and he hardened his heart, he and his servants.

When Pharaoh saw this, he and his officials sinned yet again by stubbornly refusing to do as they had promised.

Pharaoh's heart turned rock-hard. He refused to release the Israelites, as GOD had ordered through Moses.

So Pharaoh's heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the LORD had said through Moses.

Exod.9.35

So the heart of Pharaoh was hard; neither would he let the children of Israel go, as the LORD had spoken by Moses.

Exod.9.35

Pharaoh refused to let the people leave, just as the LORD had predicted.

Exod.10.1

GOD said to Moses: "Go to Pharaoh. I've made him stubborn, him and his servants, so that I can force him to look at these signs

Exod.10.1

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these miraculous signs of mine among them

Exod.10.1

Now the LORD said to Moses, "Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him,

Exod.10.1

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Return to Pharaoh and again make your demands. I have made him and his officials stubborn so I can continue to display my power by performing miraculous signs among them.

Exod.10.2

and so you'll be able to tell your children and grandchildren how I toyed with the Egyptians, like a cat with a mouse; you'll tell them the stories of the signs that I brought down on them, so that you'll all know that I am GOD."

that you may tell your children and grandchildren how I dealt harshly with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and that you may know that I am the LORD."

Exod.10.2

and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son's son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I am the LORD."

Exod.10.2

You will be able to tell wonderful stories to your children and grandchildren about the marvelous things I am doing among the Egyptians to prove that I am the LORD."

Exod.10.3

Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, "GOD, the God of the Hebrews, says, "How long are you going to refuse to knuckle under? Release my people so that they can worship me.

Exod.10.3

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, "This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me.

Exod.10.3

So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, "Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: "How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

Exod.10.3

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, "This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to submit to me? Let my people go, so they can worship me.

Exod.10.4

If you refuse to release my people, watch out; tomorrow I'm bringing locusts into your country.

Exod.10.4

If you refuse to let them go, I will bring locusts into your country tomorrow.

Exod.10.4

Or else, if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.

Exod.10.4

If you refuse, watch out! For tomorrow I will cover the whole country with locusts.

Exod.10.5

They'll cover every square inch of ground; no one will be able to see the ground. They'll devour everything left over from the hailstorm, even the saplings out in the fields--they'll clear-cut the trees.

Exod.10.5

They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields.

Exod.10.5

And they shall cover the face of the earth, so that no one will be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of what is left, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field.

Exod.10.5

There will be so many that you won't be able to see the ground. They will devour everything that escaped the hailstorm, including all the trees in the fields.

Exod.10.6

And they'll invade your houses, filling the houses of your servants, filling every house in Egypt. Nobody will have ever seen anything like this, from the time your ancestors first set foot on this soil until today.'" Then he turned on his heel and left Pharaoh.

Exod.10.6

They will fill your houses and those of all your officials and all the Egyptians-something neither your fathers nor your forefathers have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now.'" Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh.

Exod.10.6

They shall fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians--which neither your fathers nor your fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day."' And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.

Exod.10.6

They will overrun your palaces and the homes of your officials and all the houses of Egypt. Never in the history of Egypt has there been a plague like this one!" And with that, Moses turned and walked out.

Exod.10.7

Pharaoh's servants said to him, "How long are you going to let this man harass us? Let these people go and worship their GOD. Can't you see that Egypt is on its last legs?"

Exod.10.7

Pharaoh's officials said to him, "How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?"

Exod.10.7

Then Pharaoh's servants said to him, "How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is destroyed?"

Exod.10.7

The court officials now came to Pharaoh and appealed to him. "How long will you let these disasters go on? Please let the Israelites go to serve the LORD their God! Don't you realize that Egypt lies in ruins?"

Exod.10.8

So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. He said to them, "Go ahead then. Go worship your GOD. But just who exactly is going with you?"

Exod.10.8

Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. "Go, worship the LORD your God," he said. "But just who will be going?"

Exod.10.8

So Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, "Go, serve the LORD your God. Who are the ones that are going?"

Exod.10.8

So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. "All right, go and serve the LORD your God," he said. "But tell me, just whom do you want to take along?"

Exod.10.9

Moses said, "We're taking young and old, sons and daughters, flocks and herds--this is our worship-celebration of GOD."

Exod.10.9

Moses answered, "We will go with our young and old, with our sons and daughters, and with our flocks and herds, because we are to celebrate a festival to the LORD."

Exod.10.9

And Moses said, "We will go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we will go, for we must hold a feast to the LORD."

Exod.10.9

"Young and old, all of us will go," Moses replied. "We will take our sons and daughters and our flocks and herds. We must all join together in a festival to the LORD."

Exod.10.10

He said, "I'd sooner send you off with GOD's blessings than let you go with your children. Look, you're up to no good--it's written all over your faces.

Exod.10.10

Pharaoh said, "The LORD be with you-if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil.

Exod.10.10

Then he said to them, "The LORD had better be with you when I let you and your little ones go! Beware, for evil is ahead of you.

Exod.10.10

Pharaoh retorted, "The LORD will certainly need to be with you if you try to take your little ones along! I can see through your wicked intentions.

Exod.10.11

Nothing doing. Just the men are going--go ahead and worship GOD. That's what you want so badly." And they were thrown out of Pharaoh's presence.

Exod.10.11

No! Have only the men go; and worship the LORD, since that's what you have been asking for." Then Moses and Aaron were driven out of Pharaoh's presence.

Exod.10.11

Not so! Go now, you who are men, and serve the LORD, for that is what you desired." And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

Exod.10.11

Never! Only the men may go and serve the LORD, for that is what you requested." And Pharaoh threw them out of the palace.

Exod.10.12

GOD said to Moses: "Stretch your hand over Egypt and signal the locusts to cover the land of Egypt, devouring every blade of grass in the country, everything that the hail didn't get."

And the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over Egypt so that locusts will swarm over the land and devour everything growing in the fields, everything left by the hail."

Pharaoh had Moses and Aaron back in no time. He said, "I've sinned against your GOD and against you.

And the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which caught up the locusts and carried them into the Red Sea. Not a locust was left anywhere in Egypt.

But GOD made Pharaoh stubborn as ever. He still didn't release the Israelites.

Our livestock has to go with us with not a hoof left behind; they are part of the worship of our GOD. And we don't know just what will be needed until we get there."
