"In just such a time Moses was born, a most beautiful baby. He was hidden at home for three months.

When he could be hidden no longer, he was put outside--and immediately rescued by Pharaoh's daughter, who mothered him as her own son.

When he was placed outside, Pharaoh's daughter took him and brought him up as her own son.

But when he was set out, Pharaoh's daughter took him away and brought him up as her own son.

When at last they had to abandon him, Pharaoh's daughter found him and raised him as her own son.

Moses was educated in the best schools in Egypt. He was equally impressive as a thinker and an athlete.

Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.

Moses was taught all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he became mighty in both speech and action.

"When he was forty years old, he wondered how everything was going with his Hebrew kin and went out to look things over.

"When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites.

Acts.7.23

"Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel.

"One day when he was forty years old, he decided to visit his relatives, the people of Israel.

He saw an Egyptian abusing one of them and stepped in, avenging his underdog brother by knocking the Egyptian flat.

Acts.7.24

He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian.

Acts.7.24

And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian.

During this visit, he saw an Egyptian mistreating a man of Israel. So Moses came to his defense and avenged him, killing the Egyptian.

He thought his brothers would be glad that he was on their side, and even see him as an instrument of God to deliver them. But they didn't see it that way.

Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.

For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand.

Moses assumed his brothers would realize that God had sent him to rescue them, but they didn't.

The next day two of them were fighting and he tried to break it up, told them to shake hands and get along with each other: "Friends, you are brothers, why are you beating up on each other?'

The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, 'Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?'

And the next day he appeared to two of them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying, "Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong one another?'

"The next day he visited them again and saw two men of Israel fighting. He tried to be a peacemaker. 'Men,' he said, 'you are brothers. Why are you hurting each other?'

"The one who had started the fight said, "Who put you in charge of us?

"But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, 'Who made you ruler and judge over us?

Acts.7.27

But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, "Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

Acts.7.27

"But the man in the wrong pushed Moses aside and told him to mind his own business. 'Who made you a ruler and judge over us?' he asked.

Acts.7.28

Are you going to kill me like you killed that Egyptian yesterday?'

Acts.7.28

Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?'

Acts.7.28

Do you want to kill me as you did the Egyptian yesterday?'

'Are you going to kill me as you killed that Egyptian yesterday?'

When Moses heard that, realizing that the word was out, he ran for his life and lived in exile over in Midian. During the years of exile, two sons were born to him.

When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.

Then, at this saying, Moses fled and became a dweller in the land of Midian, where he had two sons.

"Forty years later, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, an angel appeared to him in the guise of flames of a burning bush.

"After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.

"And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai.

"Forty years later, in the desert near Mount Sinai, an angel appeared to Moses in the flame of a burning bush.

Moses, not believing his eyes, went up to take a closer look. He heard God's voice:

When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to look more closely, he heard the Lord's voice:

When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight; and as he drew near to observe, the voice of the Lord came to him,

Moses saw it and wondered what it was. As he went to see, the voice of the Lord called out to him,

"I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.' Frightened nearly out of his skin, Moses shut his eyes and turned away.

'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.' Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.

saying, "I am the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses trembled and dared not look.

'I am the God of your ancestors--the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.' Moses shook with terror and dared not look.

"God said, "Kneel and pray. You are in a holy place, on holy ground.

"Then the Lord said to him, 'Take off your sandals; the place where you are standing is holy ground.

"Then the LORD said to him, "Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

"And the Lord said to him, 'Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.

I've seen the agony of my people in Egypt. I've heard their groans. I've come to help them. So get yourself ready; I'm sending you back to Egypt.'

I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.'

I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt."'

You can be sure that I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries. So I have come to rescue them. Now go, for I will send you to Egypt.'

"This is the same Moses whom they earlier rejected, saying, "Who put you in charge of us?' This is the Moses that God, using the angel flaming in the burning bush, sent back as ruler and redeemer.

"This is the same Moses whom they had rejected with the words, 'Who made you ruler and judge?' He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

"This Moses whom they rejected, saying, "Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the one God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush.

And so God sent back the same man his people had previously rejected by demanding, 'Who made you a ruler and judge over us?' Through the angel who appeared to him in the burning bush, Moses was sent to be their ruler and savior.

He led them out of their slavery. He did wonderful things, setting up God-signs all through Egypt, down at the Red Sea, and out in the wilderness for forty years.

This is the Moses who said to his congregation, "God will raise up a prophet just like me from your descendants.'

"This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, "The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.'

"Moses himself told the people of Israel, 'God will raise up a Prophet like me from among your own people.'

This is the Moses who stood between the angel speaking at Sinai and your fathers assembled in the wilderness and took the life-giving words given to him and handed them over to us,

He was in the assembly in the desert, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to us.

"This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us,

Moses was with the assembly of God's people in the wilderness. He was the mediator between the people of Israel and the angel who gave him life-giving words on Mount Sinai to pass on to us.

Acts.7.39

words our fathers would have nothing to do with. "They craved the old Egyptian ways,

"But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

whom our fathers would not obey, but rejected. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,

"But our ancestors rejected Moses and wanted to return to Egypt.

whining to Aaron, "Make us gods we can see and follow. This Moses who got us out here miles from nowhere--who knows what's happened to him!'

They told Aaron, 'Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who led us out of Egypt--we don't know what has happened to him!'

saying to Aaron, "Make us gods to go before us; as for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.'

They told Aaron, 'Make us some gods who can lead us, for we don't know what has become of this Moses, who brought us out of Egypt.'

That was the time when they made a calf-idol, brought sacrifices to it, and congratulated each other on the wonderful religious program they had put together.

That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and held a celebration in honor of what their hands had made.

And they made a calf in those days, offered sacrifices to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

So they made an idol shaped like a calf, and they sacrificed to it and rejoiced in this thing they had made.

"God wasn't at all pleased; but he let them do it their way, worship every new god that came down the pike--and live with the consequences, consequences described by the prophet Amos: Did you bring me offerings of animals and grains those forty wilderness years, O Israel?

But God turned away and gave them over to the worship of the heavenly bodies. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets: "'Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?

Then God turned and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets: "Did you offer Me slaughtered animals and sacrifices during forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

Then God turned away from them and gave them up to serve the sun, moon, and stars as their gods! In the book of the prophets it is written, 'Was it to me you were bringing sacrifices during those forty years in the wilderness, Israel?

Acts.7.43

Hardly. You were too busy building shrines to war gods, to sex goddesses, Worshiping them with all your might. That's why I put you in exile in Babylon.

You have lifted up the shrine of Molech and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile' beyond Babylon.

You also took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of your god Remphan, Images which you made to worship; And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.'

No, your real interest was in your pagan gods--the shrine of Molech, the star god Rephan, and the images you made to worship them. So I will send you into captivity far away in Babylon.'
