Acts.28.17

Three days later, Paul called the Jewish leaders together for a meeting at his house. He said, "The Jews in Jerusalem arrested me on trumped-up charges, and I was taken into custody by the Romans. I assure you that I did absolutely nothing against Jewish laws or Jewish customs.

Three days later he called together the leaders of the Jews. When they had assembled, Paul said to them: "My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.

And it came to pass after three days that Paul called the leaders of the Jews together. So when they had come together, he said to them: "Men and brethren, though I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

Three days after Paul's arrival, he called together the local Jewish leaders. He said to them, "Brothers, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Roman government, even though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors.

After the Romans investigated the charges and found there was nothing to them, they wanted to set me free,

They examined me and wanted to release me, because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death.

who, when they had examined me, wanted to let me go, because there was no cause for putting me to death.

The Romans tried me and wanted to release me, for they found no cause for the death sentence.

but the Jews objected so fiercely that I was forced to appeal to Caesar. I did this not to accuse them of any wrongdoing or to get our people in trouble with Rome. We've had enough trouble through the years that way.

But when the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar--not that I had any charge to bring against my own people.

But when the Jewish leaders protested the decision, I felt it necessary to appeal to Caesar, even though I had no desire to press charges against my own people.

I did it for Israel. I asked you to come and listen to me today to make it clear that I'm on Israel's side, not against her. I'm a hostage here for hope, not doom."

For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain."

For this reason therefore I have called for you, to see you and speak with you, because for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain."

I asked you to come here today so we could get acquainted and so I could tell you that I am bound with this chain because I believe that the hope of Israel--the Messiah--has already come."

They said, "Nobody wrote warning us about you. And no one has shown up saying anything bad about you.

They replied, "We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of the brothers who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you.

Then they said to him, "We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brethren who came reported or spoken any evil of you.

They replied, "We have heard nothing against you. We have had no letters from Judea or reports from anyone who has arrived here.

But we would like very much to hear more. The only thing we know about this Christian sect is that nobody seems to have anything good to say about it."

But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect."

But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere."

But we want to hear what you believe, for the only thing we know about these Christians is that they are denounced everywhere."

They agreed on a time. When the day arrived, they came back to his home with a number of their friends. Paul talked to them all day, from morning to evening, explaining everything involved in the kingdom of God, and trying to persuade them all about Jesus by pointing out what Moses and the prophets had written about him.

They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.

So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.

So a time was set, and on that day a large number of people came to Paul's house. He told them about the Kingdom of God and taught them about Jesus from the Scriptures--from the five books of Moses and the books of the prophets. He began lecturing in the morning and went on into the evening.

Some of them were persuaded by what he said, but others refused to believe a word of it.

And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.

When the unbelievers got cantankerous and started bickering with each other, Paul interrupted: "I have just one more thing to say to you. The Holy Spirit sure knew what he was talking about when he addressed our ancestors through Isaiah the prophet:

They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: "The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your forefathers when he said through Isaiah the prophet:

So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word: "The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,

But after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul: "The Holy Spirit was right when he said to our ancestors through Isaiah the prophet,

Go to this people and tell them this: "You're going to listen with your ears, but you won't hear a word; You're going to stare with your eyes, but you won't see a thing.

"'Go to this people and say, "You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving."

saying, "Go to this people and say: "Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive;

'Go and say to my people, You will hear my words, but you will not understand; you will see what I do, but you will not perceive its meaning.

Acts.28.27

These people are blockheads! They stick their fingers in their ears so they won't have to listen; They screw their eyes shut so they won't have to look, so they won't have to deal with me face-to-face and let me heal them."

For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'

For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them."'

For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes--so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.'

"You've had your chance. The non-Jewish outsiders are next on the list. And believe me, they're going to receive it with open arms!"

"Therefore I want you to know that God's salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!"

"Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!"

So I want you to realize that this salvation from God is also available to the Gentiles, and they will accept it."

Paul lived for two years in his rented house. He welcomed everyone who came to visit.

He urgently presented all matters of the kingdom of God. He explained everything about Jesus Christ. His door was always open.

For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him.
